    LOL!

now that you mention it, they kinda sound like Susan Sarandon in Thelma&Louise wink.gif

  3. Actually in Resistance there are some "female" voices. They seem to be nothing else but high-pitched male voices which sound a bit like the Chipmunks wink.gif. Kinda kills the immersion, don't ya think?

You can try it out in the editor by grouping some civvie females to your group.

They did exist, but they weren't excessively used in the military.

The steerable ram-air parafoil was actually invented by a kite-maker Domina Jalbert in the mid 1960's. It was maneuverable and allowed deceleration to make zero-velocity landings, but due it's complexity it didn't replace round solid cloth parachutes. Even today paratroops favour round chutes over parafoils since parafoils are needed only when pinpoint landings are required.

I'd say OFP is realistic in this way.

  5. It can be done via rather simple scripting. You should have a repeated script which checks the distance between you and your ammo carrier. When you're close enough the script creates an option in action menu for you get more ammo (addMagazine) by clicking it. You can remove the ammo from the soldier via "removeMagazine" -command to make it feel realistic.

    I didn't. But I bought Resistance.

I saw Red Hammer, but for me it didn't add anything I would've been willing to pay for, just another campaign and some new voice acting. Resistance offered so much more that added to the general gameplay itself so I couldn't pass it.

    -=Die Alive=-<span id='postcolor'>

I guess not, but I meant that any neutral vehicle should be considered as a soldier in the matter of identifying distance until it's identified and confirmed as hostile.

  9. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (KeyCat @ Sep. 24 2002,06:43)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">One thing I really hate in OFP is the way enemy AI helicopters/planes "magically" detects and kill you within just a few seconds as soon you jump into a car/jeep/truck/helicopter/tank etc.

As long as you stay in your boots and run on the ground the enemy AI behaves somewhat realistic but the second you enter a veichle they "magically" spot you from miles away and if they have any missiles left you are history without even knowing it!

    /Christer (a.k.a KeyCat)<span id='postcolor'>

I hate that too. The problem is that whenever a hostile unit enters an empty vehicle, the vehicle changes it's "side" from neutral to enemy. I especially hate this in black-op missions when I'm trying to steal a car to get away.

The best solution would be that a unit entering a vehicle would not automatically change the side of vehicle. Only when an enemy spots you inside the vehicle from a distance suitable for a soldier to spot another, the whole vehicle would turn into hostile for all enemy.

So, I suggest keeping the stolen vehicles neutral until someone confirms you to be hostile. Shouldn't take too much effort in coding?

You only have it if you have chosen to install the component when installing Office XP. You might want to change the Office installation and see if it allows you to install SAPI again.

  13. I know the feeling. OFP is fairly popular game here in Finland but there are only a few fanatics like me who are serious about really playing it, not just running randomly shooting around. My LAN mates often tend to get a bullet into their craniums fairly fast wink.gif

...not that I'm bragging or anything... tounge.gif

In OFP this effect is very small compared to Falcon 4 in which I'm even bigger fanatic than in OFP. Due to F4's technicality it takes months of practicing before you master even the basics of the avionics, not to mention years of practicing before you know how to survive in the air. In our population of 5 million people I haven't met anyone knowing how to fly the damn sim. Well, there's always the Internet. Too bad I get my ass kicked so often online. wink.gif

  14. Well, since there are problems playing some of the 1985 missions with Resistance they are going to make modifications to the campaign in the upcoming patch. While they're at it, I wouldn't mind seeing pilots, black-ops, officers and tank crew with pistols in the original campaign... wink.gif

I have owned Resistance only for a week or so, and my fingers are itching to get to play the campaign through. So far I've played the first 3 missions. The problem is that I'm not willing to risk losing my weapons pool by playing it before they release the patch. Heck, I must've spent two hours collecting weapons in the first three missions alone!

Remember to download the service pack 2 for the SAPI SDK too.

I read some of the FrugalsWorld posts and it seems that uninstalling and re-installing the SDK has worked for some. Microsoft works in mysterious ways wink.gif

Kegetys, you're absolutely right. I'm not a fan of MS either but every now and then they manage to make decent products, such as their top of the line speech recognition and Flight Simulator 2002!

    wow.gif PEACE<span id='postcolor'>

Yep, that's for .NET Frameworks all right. I suggest keeping the SAPI SDK on hold for the moment and downloading Frameworks first. Then try it again so you can see if you really need to download the SAPI at all!

Gotta re-teach my voice as "F ten" get's picked up with random noise sometimes.<span id='postcolor'>

I designed my template so that there are only a few phrases beginning with the same word. When it comes to recognizing "engage" from "engage at will" it will keep a short pause after "engage" before it realizes that there are no more words following. Otherwise it reacts very fast to commands.

Once you get it up and running and recognizing with 100% accuracy you should crank up the speech response time up  about to 3/4. That's how it works for me.

    edit:

Maybe you are talking too slow wink.gif

It differs greatly from other speech progs in the way that you can speak as you do in your everyday life. You don't have to keep pauses between words. It knows very well what you are trying to say.

I have a download thingy (Flashget) so that i could do it incrementally.

But how do i know if i have it? i searched program files for it, and it same up with a folder named  "isapi" and two .dll's. But its only about 200kb.

I really want to try this out, but if its one of these things you use once, but never again, then don't bother.  smile.gif

    mad.gif PEACE<span id='postcolor'>

If you have installed Office XP you should have a working version of SAPI. Otherwise, I don't know.

You have to decide whether you find it useful to make issuing commands faster and easier thus making playing kinda more enjoyable. If you have used GameCommander, Speechbuddy or other speech-programs for gaming you should know how much they add to the immersion. Speechbuddy is lacking useful features, GameCommander is good but both of them have a remarkably big change to misunderstand your phrases. I think it's only my opinion, but I feel Shoot is better in recognition and the currently the latest version is already nearly equivalent of GC:s features.

I've been using GC with Flashpoint, Falcon 4.0 and some other flight sims, but as soon as I tried Shoot I saw that it was superior to other speech progs I've tried. Unfortunately the majority of the credit does not go for Shoot, it goes for Microsoft. Finally M$ has done something of good quality such as their new speech recognition engine. smile.gif (and FS2002 of course wink.gif)
