Dual Core User try the following
SpaceAlex replied to WhiskeyBullets's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Don't have any problems with my dual-core. I don't know why so many people have problems with it. It's true that i have some dual-core drivers installed on my system, although i doubt they actually do anything, other than taking my HD space (i used the proc. withut the drivers for 2 months and had no problems... but i kept them in just to make sure it would stay that way). I have been using dual-core processors since they were released, and haven't had a single problem with it. App's that don't support it (there are plenty that do, though), just use only one core, instead of two. That's it. There's nothing else to it. Also, if a game doesn't support dual-core (well actually windows task manager and logitech G15 LCD display tell me that ArmA is using both cores, so i guess the many dual-core drivers i have installed (nvidia, MS, dual core optimizer...) actually make a difference), it will still run better on the recent dual cores, because none of the existing single-core processors match the top dual-core (C2D, and even FX-60) in performace. So really, there's no need to feel sorry for those with a dual-core. You should be more sorry for those that don't have it. -
should you be able to move and shoot in ARMA?
SpaceAlex replied to --DST-- HIGHLANDER's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
I think it will take a while for me to get used to ArmA controls. OFP was much different, and i can't deny it any longer (even though i want it to), the OFP controls were better, IMO. ArmA might be more realistic, but that might not necessary be a good thing. Eespecially for those of us who have been playing OFP online for 4+ years. After playing it online for such a long time, OFP became like second nature for me. At the same time, it also made it hard for me to enjoy other MP games (tried BF2, didn't like it). I thought ArmA will be pretty much the same. I didn't expect it to be exacly the same, ofcourse. I can live with a few changes (personally don't care if i'm not able to sprint and shoot anymore), but Arma changes too many things (don't fix what ain't broken, BIS). Right now, at its current state, i don't find it much more enjoyable than BF2 (not saying they're similar in any way (except that they both let you drive in vehicles)...i'm just expressing my feelings towards it). But hopefully, i will get used to ArmA's gameplay in time, and be able to enjoy playing it, as much as i enjoyed (and still do) playing OFP. -

Athlon X2 4400+ (OC 3Ghz) 2GB RAM 8800 GTX The game runs fine, i suppose. It doesn't drop below 20FPS at very high settings and 2000m view distance. Usually it runs at around 38FPS. I still wish it would run better, but what can i do? Overall, the game feels a bit sluggish. The mouse movement is just not as smooth as in OFP (even at 60+ FPS). It's much harder to aim in MP.

Arma is fine... graphicly it's like a whole new game, but inside it's still pretty much the same. I wish that they wouldn't mess with the gameplay so much though, because i feel like a noob when playing ArmA. I liked OFP gameplay better, overall (i can just forget about running and shooting at close quarters in this game... it might be realistic, but it's a bitch in MP) I'm not very impressed with the campaign either. It's missing a good stroy and characters with personalities. It would help if original and Resistance campaigns would make it into ArmA. I would most definitely play through them again. Oh well, maybe some other time. Multiplayer seems about the same, except that there's a "join in progress"...i'm most grateful for that. No more waiting for players for 30 minutes anymore folks. Overall, i think it's a worthy sequel, that will really start to shine in a couple of months, when BIS releases a couple of patches to fix the game, and mods start coming out.

AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 1GB OCZ 3700 Platinum Leadtek Nvidia 6800 Ultra. To be honest OFP doesn't run much better than on my previous system. The FPS still drops down to 20 sometimes. I should also state that i get the same FPS when running at 1600x1200 (4xSAA, 16xAF) as i get when running at 1024x768 (No AA, AF). I think it's pretty easy to explain that: OFP engine is pretty old and it's not coded for this new hardware. The same holds true for the graphic card drivers. They are not coded for this game. I have to say though, the game runs a lot smoother online. We all know why is that, don't we? Because that CPU really rocks.

Cwc islands with resistance objects
SpaceAlex replied to SpaceAlex's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
The new version was avaible on Tactial Blunder quite some time ago. But it would seem that it's not there anymore. And i can't upload it back there either. So, unless i can find a good host, i'm afraid there's no way of getting it. If you really want it though, i can send it to you through MSN (spacealex@msn.com). -

I don't really like this standard FPS very much, where you can run and gun without problems and can carry around 10 weapons with you. But i enjoyed HL2, even if i was bothered by those things. It was a very fun game to play. The gravity gun really made this game so good. I would't have enjoyed it so much if it wasn't for the gravity gun. The last few stages of the game stand out. The design of those maps is superb. I was a little disappointed with the ending. I was left searching for more. It was kinda sad ending really, but i won't really get into that to avoid spoilers. As for FarCry: The game was pretty good at the beginning, but when those damn monkeys started to show up i got bored of it. I finished it, but i have to say that i was kinda glad it was over. The game really didn't bring anything new other than amazing graphic. It was just a standard FPS. Half-life 2 is not. Mainly because of that gravity gun and because it's half-life.

DXDLL 1.0 (not Geforce MX compatible)
SpaceAlex replied to kegetys's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Dunno, maybe i should complain to nvidia for DXDLL's reflections droping my frame rates to 4 with their latest drivers , fact is i miss the nice water reflections in OPF and i am also curious has to why have nvidias latest drivers screwed up DXDLL . stupid drivers . Which card are you using? If you're using the old FX or TI (or even older) series then i'm afraid you're stuck with crappy framerates. Those cards just can't seem to handle dxdll very good. The new 6800 series are different however. I only lose a frame or two when i load up dxdll on my 6800U. Before, when i had a 5900U my FPS dropped to like 20. -
I think that they should include climbing rather than jumping. It would be nice to climb through a windor or on a wall. Jumping through a window or jumping on a wall would be funny though.
-
Hmm, i'm not sure what could be the problem. My game runs smoother than it did with my previous card (GF 5900 Ultra), but not much. It's possible that you don't have enough RAM, but if the game ran better on your previous system then it must be something else. Try lowering the terrain detail to normal, and your view distance to 1500m.

That's great to hear. Would you maybe have a pic of the error you had that you could post here or email to me? UPDATE: pic here. Yup, that's my piccy, I have the same problem as you lot by the looks of it. I'll try the old drivers, but I don't really want to lose the performance of the newer sets  Those drivers on Guru3d are the latest drivers (65.62). The ones that you probably have are 61.77. These new drivers should also improve performace in games. People are telling great things about them, so don't be afraid to install them.

EDIT: I downloaded and installed ForceWare 65.62 driver set from Guru3d ( http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=847 ), and it fixed the problem for me.
