    Crosshair Issues

Set MIP mapping detail in your graphics card properties to alteast halfway / blend. Ideally, you should set it to highest quality. This will reduce performance slightly, but should correct your problems.

    Sound Problem

My mind is a little hazy on this one... I'm not sure the SB64 supports h/w acceleration / EAX. If I'm wrong, the only thing I could suggest is updating drivers.

    HELP!

First, your problems have nothing to do with the game - if it was the game, it would be the same on both machines, it is not, therefore it must be your P4 system that's not right. (It narcs me when people blame what they see and don't stop and think about it) OFP is OK now, they've got most of the problems sorted. Is the heatsink on your P4 OK? It has internal thermal protection, which will throttle back the CPU to prevent it from burning out. What kind of sound, network, modem, misc cards are you using? Is it RAMBUS or DDR? (S423 or S478) What software do you have installed? Are the machines networked? Have you tried playing a network game with one CD Key? If so, it could be FADE. Have you been messing about with your BIOS settings / overclocking / tweaking in general? Have you installed the latest REFERENCE drivers for you hardware? (OEMs often customise their drivers and they are usually not the latest version). Have you tried re-installing Windows? You'd be surprised the number of problems this can fix.

runs smooth but slows down every 2 seconds

Come back Creative! All is forgiven!!! I just installed the newly released (as of 29/11/01) Live! drivers for XP/2K... and they work! Not only did they install correctly, they actually fixed the footstep sounds from miles away issue that's plagued OFP + SBLive! Haven't played long enough to see if it fixes crashing... but I wasn't having problems with crashing anyway...

    choppy game

2 points: 1. 128mb of RAM will lead to a lot of paging (swapping stuff to and from your HDD) - Buy more RAM. 2. You're CPU/VGA isn't capable of running OFP at 1024x768x32 properly - I have an Athlon 900 + 512 RAM + GeForce2 MX. I run at 1024x768x16, with the VAST majority of detail settings turned down (Max lights 8, no shadows, small textures etc) and I still get slowdowns... esp on the "Battlegrounds" mission. Long + Short = Sorry, you kit just can't play with the big boys. (Neither can mine :'( )

Hmm... Creative's driver writers seem to be a bunch of monkeys. Reducing the hardware acceleration may be your only option - creative seem to have no intention of writing proper drivers for W2K - Let's face it, W2K was released at the very very back end of 1999/start 2000 and, considering that WinXP is W2K+brass shiny knobs, you would have expected Creative to use 2K to workout the compatability problems before XP hit the shelves... but they didn't. Doesn't inspire too much faith, does it? (Edited by ScreamingWithNoSound at 2:14 am on Nov. 30, 2001)

    Streetlamps

If you're talking about street lamps that are there already, they are set to 'Auto' they have a light sensetive diode, that automatically turns the light on when it goes dark. If you want to explicitly turn on/off a lamp post, create a 'Game Logic' object near the lamp post and in it's init field, place: (copied from command reference) nearestObject [player, "StreetLamp"] switchLight "Off" this turns the nearest lamp post off. Change "Off" to "On" to turn it back on. Methinks this is the kind of thing that the Game Logic is for - for executing commands and scripts as soon as the mission starts, rather than using a trigger with some wierd way of automatically setting it off...

    "smart" base alarms?

Getting back to your initial post, about a tidier way to do it... I'm not very experience (and it's late - I'm tired) but I think you could use less triggers by using an array and the 'forEach' command (I think that's what it is). No specifics, but the idea is, you put all the units you want to check into the array, then pass that array to a script, or use it in a different trigger, the 'forEach' command will then run the same checks on every item in the array. Or something like that... need sleep...

    cannot find CD error

Hmm... I'm not sure the license agreement permits the copying of the original CD... it does say '1 backup copy' but isn't that actual original CD that you have? (Whereas your working copy, is the copy you have installed?) Grey areas, gotta love 'em. Hmmm... dare I incur the wrath of BIS/CM? Well, I will say, one of the basic checks that FADE makes, is your product key. If, in a multiplayer game, two copies exist with the same key, FADE will be activated on both machines. That said, if you would like instructions on how to make a 1:1 copy of a CD to which you hold legal entitlement to make a 1:1 copy of, mail me directly.

after switching the mainboard, the game become unplayable

Do either of you know about the 'hidden feature' of Windows? The one that means if you change your mobo, you need to re-install? Have you re-installed Windows since upgrading? Do it and everything will be fine. It's something to do with the drivers from the old Mobo causing problems... it's not actually possible to safely remove all the old drivers to get it back up and running properly (believe me, I've tried many times). I think it's a bug that Microsoft didn't bother ironing out (or they put it there deliberately) because it could feasibly go towards reducing piracy...

XP, can\'t get it to work

This does not look good at all. Because the clock multiplier is locked at 10.5, your 1.4Ghz CPU is running at 1.05Ghz - this, to me, is completely unacceptable. One of my workmates had a similar problem to this - are you using no-name RAM? If so, bite bullet and head over to www.crucial.com and buy a decent brand. If it isn't that, it could be your Mobo/RAM overheating - do you have a good airflow through your system (I have a 92mm blower and 80mm extractor + PSU). If none of these solve your problems then it must be your mobo - buy a different one. While I must agree, in my experience SiS mobos haven't been the most refined, I'm not sure that they would still be in business after all this time if they were THAT bad... Also, ECS is (as far as I can tell) a budget manufacturer - IMO, they are the top bugdet manufacturer, but budget non-the-less. Personally, I catagorise mobo manufacturers like this: Top end: Abit, Asus Mid-range MSI, Gigabyte, Epox Budget ECS, Aopen, Chaintech, FIC. I could (and probably am wrong) but that's my opinion from my experience.

*Deletes message that he accidentally reposted* d*amn computers. OK, so I double checked... Are you SURE you have an A7M266? Because what you're describing does sure sound like the VIA VT8233 southbridge problem... Double check your BIOS/Manual/PCB printings & version. If you have the A7M266, this is AMD 761, which should be OK (I'd still recommend updated drivers from www.amd.com) If you have an A7V266, then it's VIA, goto the post above... (d*amn Asus for naming all their board nearly the same, heh can't complain though, cause it keeps people like me in a job... ) (Edited by ScreamingWithNoSound at 11:50 pm on Nov. 27, 2001) (Edited by ScreamingWithNoSound at 12:02 am on Nov. 28, 2001)

runs smooth but slows down every 2 seconds

It's a problem with your USB mouse / periferals. There is a problem with the USB support on the south bridge of your MOBO. It's a problem with the VIA KT266 chipset that's been well documented - head over to www.viatech.com and get the latest 4in1 and USB filter drivers... Via seem to have a problem with creating a new chipset that supports USB properly - their early chipsets have a problem with HP periferals (on USB). As for the advice on swap file... I cannot agree with setting your swap file to minimum of 0 is pointless. I'm running 2K with 512mb of ram and I have 37mb sitting in my swapfile. If you're running (modern) games, you're always going to need some swapfile space. Win 2K needs between 64-80mb just to load (depends how much you load on startup) So, if you've got 256mb of RAM and you load a game (OFP) that needs more than 160mb (OFP uses upto 256) you're gonna start using your page file. In short, windows will always use the pagefile, no matter how much RAM you have, so setting it below 64MB is pointless. I would recommend that your minimum pagefile size is 512MB - RAM (with a min of 64MB) thats: 512-256 = 256mb And the MAX as 2x total RAM or 1GB - RAM. It's interesting to note, that most people don't realise one simple, underlying priciple with page files - there's no point having more total memory (that's RAM + PAGEFILE) than you're gonna use, which is why I work to this 512MB/1GB pricipal that I invented...

Many of you have horrible ideas

Thank you pzvg, that has to be one of the most down-to-earth, free-speaking, statement-of-truth's that I've heard in a long time. You have more than undone the damage done to my (already low) opinion of US servicemen by Soon2bes attitude... ####, I'd even let you into the British Army As Wardog said, I'm NOT advocating the total dumping of the 1985 setting. What I _was_ advocating, was Soon2be dumping HIS fixation on 1985 and US vs USSR.

    blue screen crash please help

Surely that would be VMM32.VXD, UKPUSHER, if that's the case, it's probably because one of your sundry (IE, not your CPU) is overheating - get some case fans to blow air through your system or, assuming you built it yourself, buy a bigger chassis (and fans).

    OFP has fu**ing low framerate

Sorry BoonieRat, I was having a bad day and you reminded me of Big Dave (shudder). To him, everything is crap "Cause it is". <LECTURE> I would like to say, that someone who is unwilling to accept a new point of view, because it challenges what they percieve to be true, really does my head in, because it's the sort of thing that racists and religious fanatics do. I cannot stand either. Bisides, there is nothing WRONG with changing your views (I think it's called adapting to your surroundings, or wisdom). Changing your view doesn't make you less of a person, less of who you are, in fact, it's failing to challenge yourself (by using prompts that others give you) that makes you an individual, anything else and you become a sheep... LOL... not that I'm trying to alter your view, I'm just trying to get you to challenge it (properly) yourself. </LECTURE>

    Help..... it crashes my game....

To clarify what mist frag said - set a permenant swapfile. If you have: <= 128 set it to at least 512mb <= 256 set it to at least 384mb <= 512 set it to at least 256mb This isn't strictly orthodox, but I've never had any problems this way... In addition, use CTRL + ALT + DEL to bring up the task list and close down everything except: Systray Explorer. If it's the latter that fixes your problem and you're using Win 98/Me, do: Start->Run->"msconfig" Click the TAB that says "Startup", take the ticks out of EVERYTHING. Then, go back and put in: Systray (System Tray) Scanregw or Scanreg (Scan Registry) Taskmon (Task Monitor) Load Power Profiles (There are 2 entries for this, do both) If you're using Win Me, also do: PC Health *StateMgr / *StateManager (It's one of these) Click OK and restart your computer.
