I sure wouldn´t wanted to hear his scream when his penis was severed.... Bet he can pee around the corner after the surgeons are finished with him.

A "Rocket Propelled Grenade", Panzerfaust or any other shaped charge warhead projectile has explosive mass formed around a metallic cone inlay. On detonation the metallic cone of a shaped charge warhead is deformed and upended by the immense pressure of the exploding mass, forming a thin, almost like a fluid behaving metal stream (called jet), that penetrates armor by kinetic energy, not by burning itself through it. The penetration power depends on the width, length and density of the metal stream, therefore on the diameter of the metal cone inlay and the material it´s made of. The speed of the metal jet is extremely high (more than 10000 m/s), and concentrated on a very small area when hitting the target, so that the armor too behaves like a fluid. It´s easiest to understand if you imagine 2 "fluids" coming  together and reacting accordingly, the armor is shifted away perpendicular from the impact point. During this process there is no shrapnel/fragment development by the hit armor. Inside the target (Tank for example), material of the metal stream "sprays" into the crew/fighting compartment together  with intense heat and pressure caused by the warhead detonation, wandering from the outside of the tank through the hole created by jet into the interior of the vehicle. Needless to say that these forces act very negative on the crew and equipment inside the vehicle. Because the body of a shaped charge rocket/missile  burst into many little fragments upon impact, it can also be used against soft targets with good effect. Regarding shaped charge vs. Chopper; the most damage probably will be done done by the explosion and according blast/pressure of composite mass, followed by shrapnel effect and eventually jet stream if a armored/reinforced area of the chopper had been hit. I wouldn´t want to be in any chopper if some AT soldiers decide to do some AA gunnery with their weapons.

Well, if you really want something to show off, connect yourself with the japanese dude that overclocked his PIV to a friggin 4010 Mhz! </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Holy cow! A Japanese fellow raised the bar on overclocking a CPU yet again. This time a Pentium4 2.4 Ghz (Northwood) was cooled down with liquid nitrogen. Combine that with 400@668, 48MHz FSB overclocking a Asus P4B266 Rev.2.01, a CPU VCORE of 2.10 Volts and a nicely chilled Pentium 4 at -175 Degrees Celcius and bingo .. it overclocked to 4010 MHz.<span id='postcolor'> Hehe , if you´re not so much into overclocking, an AthlonXP 2100 and the new batch of GeForce4 Ti 4200 or 4600 together with 512MB DDR Ram is certainly a healthy setup with many performance reserves for games to come.

1.4 Ghz and 256MB ram should be more than sufficent, if you in addition already have a Geforce 3/4 or Radeon 8500, i wouldn´t bother upgrading.

OFP is an action shooter, although me too would like to see about 30 hitzones on a tank, i´m well aware that OFP is not officially going to get away from it´s simplified concept regarding vehicles. There are many people satisfied with OFP´s vehicle handling, a small hardcore sim crowd complaining about realism won´t change that. Action sells good, real simulations that get lost in detail won´t- that´s why i think it´s unlikely Flashpoint will have major realism upgrades. I´m afraid if we want that, we have to program it ourselfs, not unlike the realism patches that are available for F4. Now when does Steel Beasts II arrive?

If the means of sparing civillians would be an overall valid course of the IDF, Helicopter Gunships and Fighter jets are surely not the appropiate tool to fight "war against terrorism" and conduct surgical operations, to get those conducting terror and have palestinian bystanders/civillians in safety. It´s like trying to cure headdaches with cutting the head of, whats happening here is basically revenge of even greater sort and level as palestinian terrorists conduct them, no better. Just saw a TV news coverage of a german humanitarian worker, trying to get with his ambulance into Ramallah to aid wounded palestinians. Every IDF checkpoint he came through he feared for his life, as one wrong move, one word said could have been the cause for the IDF shooting on him. And so it happened later, just some hundred metres before the refugee camp he, and the german reporter that acompanied him were shot at by an Israeli patrol. They could only safe their lifes by sprinting into a palestinian housing, that was surrounded quickly by the patrol, demanding them to come out. Although they were shouting again and again that they are germans, the situation didn´t calm down. After 15min they came out and tried to talk to the Israelis, that said afterwards those shots fired had been only warning shots...quite some unique warning shots if projectiles impact right next to you. Maybe this is why so many palestinians had been shot dead, all strucked down by warning shots. Just in case you are wondering, the ambulance was lettered correctly on all sides with the big lettered word "AMBULANCE". Afterwards the 2 germans went to an IDF spokesman in that area, to ask him about the incident. The IDF guy said (in german language) that he expects the germans to behave like visitors, sticking to Israeli rules if they visit ISRAELI! territory (oops), afterall the germans would expect the same of him if he came to germany. The humanitarian worker replied, thats it´s occupied palestinian territory he was driving through, not Israeli. The IDF guy was embarrased at this this reply, and switched immediately to english language, telling him that he is not allowed to do such comments. As the situation was obviously developing between the 2 germans and the IDF guy, no further questions were asked. To me it clearly looks the IDF is conducting a harsh policy of intimidation towards journalists, and those trying to help the palestinian people as this is not a single case but one of many. In the occupied territorys housings were shown that had been flattened by Israeli Bulldozers and palestinans that had been deprived of their passports, that were either taken away or destroyed during IDF controls.

Currently i assume the biggest nuclear threat emerges from small "dirty bombs", radical groups could get their hands on and use at these unstable and troubled times in the middle east, to cause complete chaos and a reforming of power balance. Iraq could also be a factor for deployment of nuclear weapons.... although indirectly; Of course it´s all hypthotetical, but if the U.S. is going to attack Iraq, and if Hussein would be launching everything within his arsenal, in terms of B- and C weapons towards Israel, to create something like a doomsday scenario, a nuclear attack could be indeed provoced. The consequences for such an attack would be fatal not only to Iraq, but the whole region and beyond.

Seems like the EU is consequent in it´s course towards Israel, more so than the U.S.. According to Spiegel there currently is a weapon Embargo against Israel ongoing, with some western states, among them Britain and France, delaying deliverance of needed spare sparts or already forcing a complete stop. The Israeli department of defence stated that Germany, more precisely Joschka Fischer, being one of the prime initiators behind it. The Israeli minister of defence Benjamin Ben-Elieser already wrote a letter to Joschka Fischer, according to israeli press sources there are currently thoughts within the Israeli department of defence to put Germany´s NS past more into focus and link it with the weapon embargo. My bet is that Israel is going to be alone pretty soon and fast, if they continue their course and politics. If Sharon continues his offensive, it is likely that Israel will  be isolated politically as moral-wise.

Great idea, but i recon it will require alot of fiddling with ballistic values if you want to match an 1:1 sight without altering it (thus making it less realistic). The easiest way is for sure to make the sight fit the values as arkadeyevich said, the hard way is to do it the other way around. Good Luck.

Well, the U.S. gave a clear sign to Hussein before he invaded Kuwait by stating that the "U.S. has no obligations in Arab-Arab conflicts". Hussein took that for a green light to conduct his Invasion into Kuwait- fooled by the U.S. To go a bit further back, it has not always been the case that Iraq was anti-american, it´s more a result of the U.S.´s foreigns politics. The U.S. couldn´t care less if Arab states are killing each other, that never has been the point, but as soon as U.S. interests are involved it will interdict. Take the Iran Contra affair, where the U.S. sold weapons to Iran to fund nicaraguan contras, just a few years before the Iraqi offensive against Iran in the first Gulf War was sponsored with weapons and fundings from the U.S amongst other western countries. The U.S., as many other western states including germany ceased it´s support as the deployment of chemical weapons by Iraq lead to extensive media coverage, and none of the western states wanted to be ascociated with this dirty war in public, since politics towards Iraq changed considerably. Hussein feeled betrayed, and left alone by it´s former supporters. 8 years after the 2nd Gulf War Hussein dispatched a letter to Clinton, content was the promise for a new Iraqi Agenda, new political system, allowance of other political parties, the ceasing to threaten Israel and to take an active role in middle east peace talks amongst the U.S. as Israel. Even secured Oil delivery contracts made with France and Russia could be investigated and changed eventually in favor of U.S. firms. Hussein demanded a cease of the sanctions against Iraq for his offering. The U.S. answer was "We are not interested in discussions". The greatest Interest of the U.S. in this region is export of defence industry products, the Oil plays too a role and is directly related to the defence industry market, as it´s price rises or drops with the tension in those regions, and a high price almost guarantees for increased sales of defence products. As the U.S. is not really dependant on the Oil resources there, the winners in this buisness are those controlling the Oil fields, and those selling weapons into these regions. From the U.S. as GB side there is no real interest in lasting peace in this region, as it would mean a major decrease of defence market sales- if noone has to defend itself against possible neighbour aggressions, there is no need for a huge war machinery, that simple. Since 25 years the U.S. and GB successfully disturbed planned Arab reunite attempts, keeping them weak and controllable, devide and rule. As the caucasus region belongs geo-strategical to the US Central Command, Iraqs geographical position is an important one to the U.S. There are many reasons for the U.S. to start a conflict against Iraq, one reason falling not under this is the removal of Hussein. As long as he exists as an Uncertainty factor in the middle east, weapon exports of western defence industries are rolling to potential foes or targets of Iraq, and are also getting acceptance from Arab states to the liking and in favor of the U.S.. I doubt there had been ever plans to remove Hussein or the whole government from power, if there had been he would be already dead and Iraq would be most certainly falling apart into 3 parts, with Turkey, Iran and Syra fighting for these. Politics are dirty, hard to tell who´s good and who´s on the  bad side, but as a rule of thumb you can say the good side is always the side you are fighting for.

There has been reports and articles of a little child being hit in the head by a projectile that had been obviously JHP, as half of his upper skull were missing, and that strong little man survived after some surgery with half of his brainmass lost. I´ve also seen reports and pictures of a combat knife being rammed into someones skull, he lives too. To make it short, the type of ammunition is not as important as the location where the hit occurs. This is why HRT snipers are shooting mostly on ranges sub 100m with special ammunition to prevent overpenetration, using rifles that are normally able to reach about 7-8 times that distance with great precision. That´s because the target they are trying to hit is very small , and a second chance is very unlikely if they screw up. In military applications this extreme precision is not required, as the goal is to put the enemy out of action- somehow, even if he is incapacitated/ wounded that much that he can´t keep up the fight. HRT snipers shoot to kill fast, instantly and certain, so the suspect has no chance to pull the trigger of his weapon, collapsing immediately without control over his body. Military snipers shoot to incapacitate or kill- both is acceptable. If i had a choice i would rather be hit by a sniper working in an Anti terror unit than by a regular sniper working for the marines, army etc.

I only wish someone would replace the the few grassholms on the current sniper character in OFP with a medium or heavy tactical ghillie suit, as in OFP the sniper doesn´t carry much more than his weapon. Like this. Another variant, that is less prone to entangle the sniper with the environment:

Definitely, to judge by the picture he´s a true master of disguise and concealment. The way he refined the art of avoiding contrast is truly amazing, nicely choosen colors to blend into the background!

Spot the sniper, this one is tough i admit, but with enough practise, patience and a trained eye not impossible:

"Genickschuss" we say in germany. In WW2 SS units usually executed prisoners by shooting them in the neck from behind, aimed at destroying the cerebellum. Nowadays HRT Sharp shooters set up their aim to destroy the cerebellum, if the situation calls for the immediate "neutralisation" of a suspect, because civillian lives are on the line. On the front side they are aiming directly at the nosetip or slightly below, from the side just under and slightly behind the ear to achive this. It´s the most effective/destructive and fastest put out of action shot existing, it brings instant loss of any control over bodyfunctions and quick death to the receiver, as the cerebellum contains the most vital functions for the human body. A "headshot" in the common sense must not immediately kill the receiver or kill at all, in quite some cases headshots were survived- unless you shoot with .50cal HE that is.

If you want a good gaming system WinXP is certainly the worst choice, Win98SE and ME are both better suited for gaming purposes- without having such an assload of problems WinXP comes with, regarding gaming software.

A reinstall of the 28.32 cured this however, therefore i guess an application invalidated my Detonator installation, or files became corruptet, as it was the display driver ending in an IL. Insthink, the first thing you should do is to check the .wdl files in your Windows\Logfiles\Watchdog directory, this usually provides the fastest solution of the problem, as in the .wdl the cause for the crash is listed.

I never needed technical support from Codies, hence i don´t know if they request a serial number to validate that you´re a legitim customer....in regards to prerequisite for receiving such support. Furthermore i personally doubt that codies forward people with problems to third party sites/ e-mail adresses of OFP community members, as i know from my ISP technical support they mostly have a checklist with a standard procedure outlined they use on each customer having problems. But you can never know....if it was exactly as he wrote, you couldn´t prove it anyway.

I would like to see it remain open too, until now the discussion, unlike threads with even less "explosive" content, remained civilized. it´s interesting to read extreme right wing comments as well as views that are more distanced.

The Carl Gustav or "Schwere Panzerfaust/Leuchtbüchse" was used by the Bundeswehr too, but was phased out some years ago and replaced by the Panzerfaust 3. We used the CG for illum, in those few rare cases they were shot on exercises. In OFP AT-4 and Carl Gustav are exactly the same, only 3D model and texture differs, such as LAW and RPG are 100% equal in their specs.

The only thing that requires little practise are landings within a obstructed area such as a city or hovering w/o "auto hover". Also fast landings require practise, and are best achived by doing a sharp 180° turn as you are over the landing zone, this cuts down the airspeed to "0". At the same time reducing collective will make you land extremely fast. For the hovering, it isn´t difficult to get into one, but it is difficult to stay hovering over a certain spot, if i´m not doing any input when in a hover i find myself flying (mostly) backwards with 120 mp/h and more soon , this especially happens on the desert island map. I think this is more of a bug than realism, but requires on the other hand practise to be avoided and thats good.

The thing that is looking slightly out of proportion to me are the rifles in OFP, especially M16 and XM177E2- either they are to big or the soldiers wearing them are to small.
