  1. Thanks for the advice. I will go for 2x AMD HD6950 2GB then. I'm surprised they don't cost more than the 1GB (only about 20-30 US dollars more per card after rebates in some cases). I also think I will wait to buy the graphics cards until after the HD79XX series (supposedly) comes out in early January. Hopefully that will drive the prices of the 6950 down a little further.
  2. I think I am going to upgrade my system soon. I'm currently running an intel C2D e8500 @ ~3.7GHz on a crappy Gigabyte mobo with 2GB of DDR2 RAM and an ATI HD5850 graphics card. I know that most of the components I plan to get will perform well on just about any game out there now: i5 2500k 8GB DDR3 1600 some decent motherboard (thinking ASRock based on reviews I've read?) Noctua NH-D14 (:D) What I need some help with is with the graphics card. I think I'd like to do Crossfire/SLI on this system, but I've never done it before. I'm thinking about getting 2 AMD HD6950's or Nvidia GTX560Ti's. What I would like to know is whether or not it is worth getting the 2GB versions of these. The monitor I am using is 1920x1200 and I don't plan on replacing it any time soon. Would the 1GB versions run well enough in crossfire/SLI at that resolution with AA turned up or would it be worth it to spend a little extra money and get the 2GB versions?
  3. In the first picture, each monitor is sitting on top of an Xbox 360. Is this a hint of things to come? Proof: http://www.bistudio.com/images/stories/blogs/developer/Karel_Desk.jpg > 100 kb
  4. I had tried the newest beta as well and it had no effect, but AMS Agent's suggestion worked perfectly. Performance was completely restored. I suggest others who have this problem to defrag BAF via Steam also.
  5. I'm guessing you mean defragging BAF only, using the Steam defrag function, right?

British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update

I have the exact same problem. I made a thread about it in the troubleshooting section.
  7. Hi guys, I own A2, OA, and now BAF through Steam. Yesterday Steam downloaded patch 1.54 for me and just an hour or so ago I downloaded BAF. I played around in the editor yesterday before buying BAF to test out the lo-res versions of the British units and everything ran perfectly fine. After downloading BAF, I experienced a momumental drop off in performance. I don't know exactly what FPS I have now or was getting previously, but I can say it was perfectly playable and smooth at reasonably high settings before. Now I can barely even navigate the main menu the stuttering is so bad. It's unlike most lag I've experienced before though. Instead of looking like frame after frame, it's like the game will run for a second or two then pause for anywhere between 5 and 10 seconds. Any help would be appreciated! Here are my system specs: E8500 @ 3.7GHz AC Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R Mobo 2GB (2x1 GB) OCZ DDR2-1066 XFX HD 5850 1GB (stock speeds) Older WD 7200RPM HDD (250GB) Windows 7 x64 As stated before, I bought Arma 2, Operation Arrowhead, and BAF all through steam. EDIT: Forgot to list in-game settings: 1920x1200 for screen+3d resolutions Textures: Very High Video Mem: Very High AF: Normal AA: Disabled Terrain: Normal Objects: High Shadows: High PP: Very Low View Distance: Usually somewhere between 2500-4000...currently just above 3000m I think.
  8. He said he made regular M4's using ACEX's M4A1 models. So semi and burst, but no full auto.
  9. If they're both in the same directory then I'd guess you shouldn't have to do anything. When you run six updater it will overwrite ACE 1.3 (for A2 only) with this new version (for AO or Combined Ops).
  10. OA STEAM USERS! On top of what Frohman said, there is a way to point six updater to your OA directory. When you're in the six updater web UI go to "settings" under the configuration tab. There will be a settings profile called "OA Vanilla." Click on "edit" to the right of that. Now all you have to do is put in the path to your OA installation in the "path" field and copy the same logpath as your regular ARMA2 installation. Now six updater will automatically install the files to your OA directory when you select "ACE (Operation Arrowhead)" preset option. EDIT: This solution should apply to people who only have Operation Arrowhead (regardless of where you bought it) as well.
  11. Yes that is a good processor. However if you do decide to get that one, buy it from Newegg: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116368 Same thing, but $50 cheaper. Also, here's a link to a good CPU cooler: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 It is more than capable of keeping the CPU cool at stock speeds. It should keep it reasonably cool if you ever decide to overclock also. EDIT: How big is your case? That CPU cooler is pretty large so you'll need a case wide enough to install it in. Looking at the measurements on newegg it'll stick out of your motherboard by 126.5 mm (or nearly 5 inches).
  12. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Category/guidedSearch.asp?CatId=22&sel=Detail;112_174_53260_53260 Only these processors (LGA 1156) will fit that P55 motherboard. The i7 930 is LGA 1366 so it will require an X58 motherboard. If you decide to stick with the i7 930 and get an X58 motherboard I recommend getting 6GB of RAM instead of 4.
  13. Great news about the ACE2 OA beta! I do have a question about that though. The way it looks to me, we download/update it through Six Updater (or YOMA) as usual, right? If so, do I have to point Six Updater to my OA installation? I bought A2 and OA off of steam so they're in separate folders.
  14. While I don't think what you have right now is bad (I'd download them :D), I do think there is a bit too much green in it. The sample pics in post #34 seem to be mostly tan however I suppose the lighting in those pics could make it seem that way.
  15. I'd like to see a mod that completely removes the light "cones" from street lamps/city lights. I know there's a mod that changes them, but I'd like to see one that removes them completely.
