Don't expect too much help on fixing this FatBoy, other than the threads already mentioned. If you don't like the idea of physically pulling memory out you can run msconfig and limit windows to 3gig of RAM if your problem is you have 4gig of RAM. BIS are towing the line that Vista is an unsupported OS, which if you read the specs on the box it isn't listed so they have every right to do this, even if it is to their own detriment. The most frustrating part of this problem is we don't know what the problem is, we know some workarounds. It could be that BIS have not programmed the game to the DirectX specification and the newly written drivers for Vista are showing that up. It could be that NVidia and ATI haven't correctly written the drivers for Vista and ArmA is showing that up. BIS are probably the only people that can know for sure as they can run ArmA in debug mode or suchlike.

I have got my Bug Reporting account setup and have entered the following: http://bugs.armed-assault.net/view.php?id=2742

Right-click the Arma shortcut on your desktop and goto Properties. Add -maxmem=256 to the end of the first line called "Target"

This does not happen in XPx64 as that is the OS I have to run Arma in. I have requested a Arma Bug Reporting account so when I get his I will post up our findings on the 4GB Vista/64bit issue.

Ok I too can confirm that vista64bit + Arma + 4gb ram does not work here either (black loading screen) I did a fresh install today of Vista64bit, Arma and Catalyst 7.7 with only 2gb ram installed. Arma fired up perfectly with no black load screen. I then installed my third stick or ram to make my system 3gb and still no black load screen. When I finally installed the fourth stick of ram to make it 4gb, black load screen! So we are getting somewhere, but we are not there yet as unfortunatley I now get the following error after playing a bit of Arma. <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">Cannot create system memory surface DXT5,2048x2048 (size 5592416 B) Error code 8007000e I got this error when I tried to play under Vista32bit and I know according to the Arma Troubleshooting guide on the BIKI that I need to use the -maxmem=512 command. BIKI - Troubleshooting But this only seems to extend the time to crash not fix the crashing completely. So as far as I see it there is a Arma/Vista64bit problem and a general Arma/Vista problem. 1. Vista64bit with 4Gb of ram = Arma black load screen (3Gb or less = no black load screen) 2. Vista32/64bit and Arma will eventually crash to desktop with a DXT memory error (The length of time to crash to desktop can be increased by using the -maxmem=512 command, but not eradicated) Thanks to MATRA for spotting the Vista64bit/4Gb ram issue.

I would put back on the drivers that were working before. Also this was only a few threads down the page it may explain a bit more http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=62503

I am a noob so this may be wrong, but do you not need to add this as well: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">setWaypointType "MOVE";

Well unless it's been fixed recently, there is a problem with ATI 64bit Vista drivers. There is a thread in this forum "Vista Black Load Screen" My friend is successfully running Vista64 and a Nvidia7600GT with no graphical glitches, so if you have an Nvidia Graphic Card you may be ok. Hope that helps, Royce

SAS - Special Air Service Pack
Royceybaby replied to Sled88's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
AFAIK The SAS get to choose the kit the want, they would not choose the SA80 as it not as dependable as the other rifles they have at their disposal. -
I can near as dammit confirm this as an Catalyst/Vista64 driver bug. My friend runs Vista64 with a Nvidia 7600GT and it works "fine" I have tried Catalyst/Vista32 and Catalyst/XP64 and both of those do not have the problem. I have yet to try the new 7.5 drivers as I got fed up with being unable to play Arma under Vista64 and reloaded XP64. Royce

Got the same problem Running the following specs: AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ 4GB Geil DDR2 Ram Asus M2R32-MVP Motherboard ATI HIS 2900XT Graphics Cards (2 in Crossfire configuration) SoundBlaster Xifi Fatality Pro Windows Vista x64 Ultimate I am runnning the drivers from the Graphics Card install CD 7.4? with the lastest 2900XT patch from the ATI/AMD website. If I try and run 1.05 release I get a black screen, if I run the latest 1.07 beta I get the same graphics corruption as the scrren shot in Darkyyy's post. Any ideas what we can do to fix the above problem, I have the German Release version and have also used up all of my activations. Thanks, Royce

Evolution V1.0 Large scale respawn coop
Royceybaby replied to KilJoy -SFG-'s topic in ARMA - USER MISSIONS
Noobie question, so when you leave the confines of a city the enemy respawn. Is there a delay on this happening or is it as soon as you leave the area? Can this be changed somehow in the server.cfg? Thanks, Royce Oh, and thanks for the excellent mission KilJoy. BI should put you on a commision basis as they sold two more copies of the game from friends watching me play this mission
