Well, if you read the second sentence in my post you would see that I'm not demanding/expecting euphoria tech to be in arma2. I thought my mention of "maybe in game5" would be clear, apparently not. It is of my opinion that if BIS wants to continue to develop unique IPs it will be required to seek out and integrate "neato" external tech. In 3 years mocap will be considered antiquated. Heck, BIS's animation system is considered archaic as of right now. It won't last forever. BIS can't develop everything it needs in-house while other game devs surge ahead. If BIS doesn't integrate innovative technologies into its future game, it will just be a matter of time before another company comes along and does it better with those "neato" effects. It doesn't matter how many loyal fanboys you have at your base, people will move on if arma doesn't do it for them anymore. As far as I can tell, Euphoria is a bridge. It allows developers to pull AI, animation, and physics together. So, yes these new behaviors have to be developed, but they provide you with the toolkit that makes developing these things much easier. I bet BIS could hire one guy to do it. Why? You feed it general parameters and the euphoria engine does the rest. Then the animator can go in and tweak this or that, add a behavior, tighten things up. In the long run it would probably cost less than doing mocap in-house. Why? You don't need a dedicated space and you don't need expensive external equipment. Lastly, euphoria is advertised as being modular. So BIS is not necessarily locked into using euphoria for everything. It can upgrade its AI or integrate the latest and greatest physics engine while euphoria sits in between. I confess I'm no expert and I don't know everything about euphoria, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the animation system in arma is sad to say the least. Technology like euphoria would would make future incarnations of arma a much better game. I mean comeon, this is primarily an infantry based game where player movement forms one of the foundations of the game. Limiting players to one animation at a time and using redundant "canned" animations will loose you points on a game review and money at the check-out counter. BIS may not have the money to advertise, but investing in new "neato" technologies that will make their game better and get them 9s on the reviews is just as good as tv/web ads. The end result? More revenues, exposure, and experience.

Screw ragdoll. BIS should invest in something like this: http://www.naturalmotion.com/euphoria.htm Game 5 perhaps?

Go 7900GTX 512 (500/600) ExtremeG Mobile Force 94.20 work great for mobile nVidia 7xxx seriers cards running under XP. They also have tweaked versions for desktop cards. Vista users should get the latest 16x.xx version drivers.

Nvidia driver with dual core support lots faster?
Robgunnatkin replied to Mr Opteron's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Nvidia added dual core support to their drivers starting at the 90.xx series. -
You know when you have played too much ArmA

I don't care about the expansions, I was just listing things that I would like to see in the future. I know most of them are way out of reach. The biggest one, for me anway, is being able to dynamically mount mgs on objects. I'm all for the flying pigs as long as that have side-mounted FFARs.

--A reworked and modernized engine (multicore, DX10) --A more robust animation system. --Bipod support with a free flowing ability to mount machine guns and assault rifles on objects such as sandbags, windows, or any object that meets certain criteria (much like DoD:S). --Real mortars/artillery support. --Improved netcode. --Large scale physics support (Destructible buildings etc...) --UAV support with ability to mark targets with laser (moving targets) or GPS (stationary targets). --Better general object interaction. --support for personnel in vehicles to fire their weapons (BMP, open trucks/humvee, transport helicopters, assault boats) --Realistic tracers with server option to turn tracers off for assault rifles and other small arms. --Better VoN support. --Better armour modeling. --Large scale damage modeling (something like we see in Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway). Toggleable option for MP. --Ability to make squads and fire teams(group up) in game, in real-time. --Better MP Pilot/Gunner support with ability to see what your gunner has marked as a target. --Better Command and Control structure with better adaptive AI that takes the load off the player somewhat. No more baby sitting like a computer (atleast built in voice command recognition). This would all be way in future with a very small chance of coming to fruition, but its what I would like see if BIS had unlimited money and a bigger team.

Burning Sands: Africa '42
Robgunnatkin replied to MehMan's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I'm sorry if I hijack your thread, but I think a World War 2 mod of the Battle of Crete would be awesome. Reasons: - It takes place on an island (~8000+ Km^2) - Same time period (1941) - Conflict involving the United Kingdom, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, Nazi Germany, and Italy. (a lot of variety there) - Could be done in stages with small sections of the island outlined. The battle had natural stages anyway. - New, fresh material. - natural foliage suits the engine. I'm just throwing out my thoughts and ideas. -
best graphics driver for my card(s)
Robgunnatkin replied to PaulHargreaves's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I have a Go 7900GTX running off XtremeG Mobile Force 94.20s. The 94.20s are very popular in the XtremeG forums and recommended for anyone using WinXP. My card isn't very powerful compared to what is out there now (500 core / 600 mem [1200 effective] ) but I play arma with everything on normal, except for textures and AF which are both set to High. Post low, shadows off, AA off, Vsync off, @ 1600 x 1000. I average a rock solid 34-37 FPS in saharni plains for example. Of course, zooming in on alot of trees or heavy bushes with a scope kills FPS, but thats just because of the overdraw. If you have Vista, I would go for the 158.xx and up. -

Despite the rampant disgust of BF2...

I really like the Berzerk maps when you have good people playing. I haven't played the evolution maps because they freeze every time I try to join a server. I've played some really fun and enjoyable Berzerk matches on the Beer Drinking Assassins server. Almost everybody on my team was in TS and talking. The BDA admins do a pretty god job keeping the riff-raft in line or out altogether. But when there are no admins around and its the weekend the server fills up with a bunch of kiddies with no sense of respect or decency. They post map markers with profanity, spam TS with fart noises, and dive bombing aircraft into hold points. Not to mention, shooting anyone who dares to pilot THEIR vehicle. These type of people need to be dealt with harshly. There is no want for them in the Arma community. -
OK, thanks a lot. Nice video btw. I like the music. It reminds me of the type of music in Homeworld 2.
