    USA 2008 Depression

Hmmm .. this one grabbed my attention! I sure hope you are wrong though about oil peaking in the Middle East, but like many others know full well that this could very well be here already if not surely imminent. Of course knowing about 'Peak Oil' as you surely already do and possibly understanding the inevitable implications of this seemingly imminent event it would seem that being concerned about the present state of the faltering US economy is being a bit futile in this respect! Of course for those who are still unaware of the phenomenon of 'Peak Oil' then yes the US economy is on desperately borrowed time to which there will inevitably be dark times ahead. I think that the only real question regarding both of these events at this time is not if but when? ... Latest reports show that Russian oil fields could already by in decline …. http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssEnergyNews/idUSL0271555820080402 http://www.commodityonline.com/news/topstory/newsdetails.php?id=7094 So we are all waiting on the Middle East!

… And all this because a foreign junior school teacher allowed her kids to name a stuffed toy Muhammad !!  Even though I accept that every country has its right to a religion and every religion has a right to exist, I can never accept this kind of fanatic hysterical paranoia from its followers! Personally I stay away from such fanatical and barbaric cultures full stop! And I guess if I was forced to visit such places I would make a big effort to keep my mouth shut and my hands clean, but not everyone has this choice and events like this are sometimes inevitable. This is why there should be much more tolerance from such religious followers rather than these constant knee-jerk hysterical outbursts that do nothing for their religion whatsoever! Unfortunately it is this very fanatical and totally intolerant characteristic of many of our worlds cultures that prevents us ever from living in harmony with each other and just guarantees the continued fighting and killing of our species! Primitive, barbaric, hysterical and totally unnecessary in this age! Â

Like I said a while back “Crap Scenarioâ€! I can never understand these developers; they come up with a kick ass engine with massive potential but then go and ruin it with a kid’s fairytale! Pink flying octopuses, giant mechanical spiders and ‘nano suits’  … buy one get one free!! Gimme a break!  I just wish that there were some decent plot directors behind games like this. If aliens were to visit us would they really be as ridiculously looking and as totally dumb and incapable as these guys make them?! I don’t think so! I think they need to watch some more episodes of The X Files! Let’s have a bit less of the childish imagination folks and a bit more thought into credibility of plausible events! I’ll only buy this game after it has reached budget status and has become a mod icon for seriously thought out gamer’s scenarios!

Can you load the full island in the editor or is it only broken up into separate areas according to the mission/objectives (island.cry01, island.cry02 etc)?

    cant play arma no more!!!!

Illegal/legal? Who TF cares! As if we all have to follow some idiotic rule laid down by an even bigger idiotic twit!  Morality says that if you already purchased the software then you can do with it as you please! Cracking the executable that you paid for and is already installed on your hard drive is no different from backing something up. You paid for it so it is yours! Anyone else's opinion is mute! If you hacked into a download site and altered every executable for every new downloadable game available then that would be illegal! Or started selling cracked software for personal gain! When I buy something I do with it as I please! Everyone else can get stuffed!  …â€The defendant was guilty of altering the executable of a game installed on his PC that said defendant purchased for his own pleasure! The software company that made the game took serious offence to his actions, as they wanted his blood and not just his money. How do you find the defendant guilty or not guilty?†Â

    Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

It reminds me of this thread Meaning what? That most games come out as buggy as ArmA? I think not! Most games come out with a few bugs that got overlooked. ArmA just wasn't (isn't) finished!  Therefore beta testing does work and is carried out by ‘most’ developers!

I notice that the enemy are spawned by triggers! Good for optimisation maybe, but anoying if you try and do a mission backwards! Â

Nice but a hovercraft would be more fun, they go anywhere except where you point them!

That depends on the quality of the beta testing and not the complexity of the game! Â

Hmmm in that case I think Crytek have just given us our next playground! How about OFP Cold War Crisis reborn into Crysis? Â I'm not sure about the heli controls though, OFP wins on that! Â

Two screens one taken from high in the editor and the other an enhanced caption from the intro screen suggest that the demo island is only a fraction of the full game! ... Will we be able to load and play with the whole island in the editor or will it be sectioned like in the demo? Â

I don't know about the COD4 demo (I've heard enough not to be interested! ), but it sounds like the Crysis demo is having some issues with 64bit drivers and Nvidia cards... From here. Hopefully though all will be sorted by the release! Â

Does this new expansion have sufficient new content to make it worth the buy? I've not done much with FSX recently, but if there is something new and exciting ... Â Â

I have an app installed which constantly defrags my HD when needed. Faulty RAM? I had that prob sorted a few years ago after getting allsorts of freezes and hangups! Maybe your PC can't stand the Singapore heat! You need big fans over there! Â Keep it on the floor with the side off and always have your AC going if you take it for a spin! Â

I can't advise you on WinXP 64bit drivers. Simple things though like when was the last time you defragged your HD?

I have a 6800GS AGP and it runs the Crysis demo like a dream on mostly medium settings. Very smooth without AA. Much smoother in fact than ArmA! As has been said already this game is well optimised, don't try and force AA though as I have found some graphical glitches, use the game preferences. Software compatibility issues with PCs will always be a problem with some setups but so will faulty hardware, which will affect consoles also. A well set up and maintained PC however, should not cause that many problems. The PC has the ultimate advantage of being inherently upgradeable whilst the console is stuck at factory speeds! Â

... I seem to recall reading somewhere that your system had problems with the Crysis demo too!! You can't blame a lockup or crash on the software when the hardware is out of date! Get your feet out of the aircon and into a local PC store! Â Console vs. PC? Just a matter of opinion and personal preference just as with anything else, and horses for courses. If you are lazy and are not into mods or tweaking then the console is your baby! But if you want to be adventurous and creative with addons, mods and missions and like the sheer versatility of a mouse and keyboard and any number of additional peripherals then the PC is champ any day! Â BTW my toes are cold right now just sitting here typing this, guess I should put on some heating! Â

OOps I think I damaged it a bit on the way up! Â ...no I really did climb that cliff!! Try it. Otherwise apart from the Nano suit and the sci-fi plot my only other gripe is the inconsistent AI. Whilst a machine gunner in a speeding patrol boat has no trouble spotting the glint in your eye from 500 meters, the same gunner on a static LTV doesn't get wind of your presence until you are just about close enough to smell his fart, even though you had just been decking all his buddies with a shotgun! Â I seem to recall this sort of AI behaviour in Far Cry too! But who cares, we've now got proper reef shallows and reef walls for scuba diving! Hmm, maybe that suit will be useful after all! Â

Crap scenario, & ridiculous creatures are expected just as in Far Cry. The Nano suit is just a bit OTT for me! Bring back Jack Carver I forgive all I said about your shirt!! Sci-Fi aside the graphics is top notch and 10/10 for optimisation. Physics is impressive, very nice editor and vehicles are not bad but I don’t like the way I just toured most of the island in the hovercraft!! 4X4 Flymo!! Â
