Nice touch, but do you really think that Bush and his mery men are going to take a blind bit of notice of the American public on this issue? Â By the way I'm British so I cant sign, but I wish you luck all the same! Â

Breakable windows really are needed both as a useful means of acquiring a camping spot and for sheer entertainment too! Oh, and whilst on this subject a few exploding barrels please! Â Â .. Damn these things were in DF2 and also in the old R6 titles. Â

Read the first post I made in this thread, it should be self-explanatory. PM me if you have a problem understanding. Â

How's life in SIN? I don't suppose you bumped into this guy back in February? ... Â We were only passing through as usual but I managed to grab a few shots of the Chinese New Year colours! ...

Works for me! Â Â ... Just make sure you set your network to LAN when creating and joining.

As ck-claw pointed out I made a thread about this a while ago here but I never updated it with my latest findings. Read the thread first to save me having to repeat myself! I play LAN games with my wife and have been doing so for nearly ten years now with just about every FPS title available! And I have never had to buy more than one copy of anything to do this. It is perfectly legal too for households to have copies on different machines and play over LAN despite what some of our more pedantic forum members might say! This is after all about family enjoyment and developers appreciate this! When you create a server in your household you create it over LAN not Internet and there is no CD checking over LAN games with most titles (non that I know of) except that is for ArmA! However, I believe that this is a bug as we have heard that BIS have had difficulties getting ArmA to distinguish between LAN and internet, so when you try to connect two PC's over LAN you will be automatically checked by the Gamespy servers online for duplicate keys and refused connection if your keys are the same! To get passed this issue you simply have to prevent Gamespy from checking your key online by disconnecting your Internet cable from your router/PC while connecting over LAN and your LAN connections should work normally. Hopefully though this will get addressed in a future patch! …. Have fun with your Bro mate! Â

I agree that there are many things that BIS should have done better regarding ArmA's release, and for many (including myself) it does seem that they have wasted that all important opportunity to get things right from the beginning. Bad reviews = bad sales we all know that and many newbees will have put this game away already and possibly never return to it in light of this 'bad start' with far too many bugs. But it is easy for us looking in from the outside to be harsh and critical over BIS about this. There are too many things we simply don't know. We know that BIS was under a LOT of pressure to get this game released by the community. They may well have been under a lot of financial pressure to get it released also (they need sales to pay the wages). Then there are the publishers, how much pressure did they put on BIS? My gut feeling that it was financial and maybe time factors were an issue because we know that they have other projects also (VBS2/Game2). With regards to the quality of the campaign, this time it seems certain that it was all their own effort. How many of you realize that OFP’s campaign was massively assisted by Codemasters? Then on the subject of Codemasters just how much were they able to port from OFP to ArmA due to copyright laws? This could possibly be the reason why so much had to be changed. This I am speculating, but by speculating I am giving BIS the benefit of the doubt! The fans will stick with them and wait. There is still no other game that even attempts to be as diverse as ArmA. Sure nobody wants to play a game that is still WIP, but better that than we are all still waiting and whining! Â

IMO I think the only serious mistake that BIS has made was implementing those 'High' and 'Very High' settings options at this stage in the first place! Give people the belief that they might be able to do something and they will slag you off once they realise that they cannot! The choice has been made so that gamers can choose between performance and graphics depending on as much your preference as your PC specs. And how many of you ‘top specers’ would complain if you could already run everything on max with ultra smooth FR knowing that specs will surely be many times improved in less than a year? What a wasted opportunity if they could have crammed in much prettier graphics for future proofing! I don't see what age has got to do with it either! I'm 43 and have been messing with PC games for as long as most. When I was a kid there was no such thing as a PC for home entertainment! I'm just glad to see things developing in the knowledge that progress will prevail. Will people ever be happy though, that is the question? Patience is a virtue and I will wait knowing full well that I cannot do any better myself! I’m pretty sure that if BIS were able to fully optimise ArmA tomorrow so that everyone with average PC’s could play at 60fps with everything maxed out they wouldn’t hesitate to do so! But in time I’m sure that things will improve with the code in the same way that hardware and drivers will improve also. Â

Holding hands isn't likely to be implemented into PC games anytime soon! Seriously mate the only solution for this is to look! Whether you are using your default keys/mouse or TrackIr or better still have a multiple monitor set-up. Unless you are asking for an additional window onscreen that gives a wide FOV view without having to look? I guess something like that might not be too intrusive but would certainly eat PC performance and you would loose some of your forward screen area too. I'm just looking forward to the day when we all have surround screen monitors and PC's fast enough to use them! Â

I understand what you are trying to say Fiasco, but seriously like has been said if you post in a public forum you are automatically asking for other peoples opinions and that is exactly what you are going to get! If you have a good argument then you can win it by debate, but if you don't expect to get hammered here! Â I think that you will find that BIS has done sufficiently well with this 'situational awareness' thing though without going over the top and spoiling the realism. That's my opinion! Â EDIT: Suma got there first! ... And I agree with what he says too. One thing that killed Brothers in Arms for me was that silly 'situational awareness' view where you could suddenly become a camera in the sky and move around anywhere! Where is the 'realism' in that?

Using Map stops movement - does it bother you?
Journeyman replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA - GENERAL
This is supposed to be a simulator so I would welcome anything that makes it ‘more’’ not’ less’ realistic whether or not it might be deemed 'inconvenient'. I'm sure that I can still move whilst looking at a map in ArmA though and I can look at a map and walk IRL (I was a mountaineer for years) BUT I could not study a map and walk. Maybe BIS could implement that new ironsight movement into the map view so that when you try and walk/run with the map up it bobs about all over the place and is only still when you stop! Now that would be more realistic and I wonder how many of you would then decide to stop next time you looked at the map!  -
Oh, and if BIS gets time after all that lot maybe they could throw in a few wild animals. .. And on the subject of wild animals .. some pretty women too please! Â

Yep! + Remove throttle from left/right rudder controls in boats. + Remove silly CLUNK CLUNK gear change noise from cars & trucks whilst in first person view. + The AI have still have eagle eyes IMO and are far too sharp at spotting and killing. (Making the skill slider more effective might help). + Improve AI waypoint following in boats. ... Last but not least: Give ArmA dual core compatibility so that the increasing number of dual core users can benefit from this new technology! Â

How to compare ArmA with BF2? … BF2 is like a fizzy drink on a hot day; it will taste delicious immediately it hits your mouth, then after a short time you will have quenched your thirst so you will want to put it away! ArmA is more like that bottle of rum hiding in the cabinet; at first the taste is overwhelming and maybe a bit off-putting, but after a while there is a strange urge to take some more and more and then a bit more, then you just need it every day and can't seem to stop! Â

I think something like what is being suggested should be limited to the ability to 'sprint' only and the duration in which you could sprint. If it also affected the normal marching forwards speed of an individual in a squad this could cause problems with formations in AI as in MP and as someone just pointed out squads are supposed to keep formation IRL too regardless of individual loadouts.

I find a tweak that help my Arma performance.
Journeyman replied to NorthStorm's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
I can tell you how to do it that bit is easy just press Ctrl/Alt/Del to bring up your Task Manager right click on an application then select Set Affinity and check the CPU box to run it on. Not all processes will allow you to set affinity though but most will and ArmA will too just Alt/Tab out first. What I want to know is if it is going to make much difference to game performance and if there are any probs with doing so. I suppose I could just give it a go and find out! And anyone else who wants to as well so long as you report back here with your results! Set all possible O/S apps to one core and ArmA to another! Â -
I find a tweak that help my Arma performance.
Journeyman replied to NorthStorm's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
This may be true for single core procs. I'm using an Dual Core Cpu 1st cpu -> real time for Arma 2nd cpu -> os duty So this would be quite handy. Bye I have a dual core cpu and am wondering how I could make games work better on it. Are you saying that I could just set all OS apps to one of the cores and then run games on the other one??  ...Would this cause any probs with OS apps? ...Would it make any difference to my games esp. ArmA? Any experts out there?  I've never really understood this 2 core business! In Device manager it shows: Processors… ...Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.2GHz ...Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.2GHz Does that mean I have two 3.2 GHz processors or one dividied into two???  -
Getting less problems after several missions!?
Journeyman replied to Danbri's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I initially had many performance and texture problems with 1.05, now I get hardly any and my performance is up quite a bit! My page file has not changed either (3072 MB) and the only thing I have changed is to disable VSync on my GFX card! This texture memory thing works in strange ways!! Â -
That's probably because it has an agricultural transmission (spur gears) as opposed to helical gears as found on most modern vehicles. However, I still think that the gear change in first person view is very annoying! Â Â CLUNK clunk CLUNK! WTF!!! Â
-
The worst thing about the driving in ArmA ATM IMO is that CLUNK CLUNK gear change! Â Â If my Land Rover had a gear change that sounded like that I would get it sorted pretty quickly! Â
-
OK I've seen the effect now. It seems it works in some places but not others even in the same area! The enemy still see me too easily though! Maybe I'm just to fat! Â
-
That's where I've been testing it. As far as I can tell there is no difference between 1.04 and 1.05 with regards to the usefulness of grass as cover. Also I never see soldiers in the distance with their feet obscured by this new 'grass layer'. I'm wondering if there is a problem with this on my setup! What does this grass layer look like? Does someone have a screeny? … I can't hide in any grass they see me every time! Â

I find a tweak that help my Arma performance.
Journeyman replied to NorthStorm's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Hmm, my McAfee Site Advisor warns me away from that site as it has been shown to have spyware in its downloads! Also I’d rather wait for BIS to finish optimising it first before messing with apps like that! -
Does the grass/grass layer work in the editor? Because I can't seem to hide in it at all, they spot me every time and I can't see this grass layer thing either, some say it looks bad because soldiers feet are hidden but I don't get this at all. My terrain detail is on normal but I've had it on V high and the same?? Â Â Oh and yes I have installed the 1.05 patch!!

Yep I loved OFP, I also make an effort to read other peoples posts properly before replying in any manor least of all pointlessly and twice at that! Boat handling was done the same in OFP that’s what I said, but IMO it could be changed for the better, as could the car controls which were actually better in OFP and could be changed back. I agree also with Bals’ about AI and boat waypoints. I tried to go for a boat ride while I was doing some paperwork just so I could have a virtual Sarani tour, but the boat driver was virtual crap and never got above 4 0r 5 kph, kept stopping and I never even got to my first waypoint! Maybe he was having virtual engine trouble! Â
