To make a long story short, I was in a bad car accident back in April, and have not played OFP since. Â I was going through my old bookmarks of OFP sites and was supprised to find most of them are gone. Anyway I have the original v1.0 version of OFP. Â I did a fresh install and patched it to v1.46. Â What addons is everyone running these days? Â Specifically, which is the best sound mod? Before the accident I was working on a small ~10 mission mini campaign, which I might finish. Â What are the best editing addons? I might eventually pick up Resistance, I saw it at EB last time I was there for $10, but for now help me get OFP up to date. Thanks

I'm no expert on celestial navigation, but I've had read a bit about it. I know you can find your latitude (or is it longitude) by measuring the angle between the north star and the horizon. You can do this by using your thumb. Hold it out in front of you and count the number of thumbs between the horizon and the north start. The width of your thumb is 2 degrees, but that won't work sticking your thumb up to the monitor. Thats about all I can remember for now.

The flight modeling on the seagul is right on. I used to be one in a previous life

The problem when you order your troops back to formation, but instead it orders them to "all follow 2," and they all run off blindly into the enemy. This never happened to me prior to v1.42. The tanks drive way too slow up hill. The AI has X-ray vision and are able to see through vehicles and identify the occupants. The A-10 LGB still can't hit laser designated targets. Actually since v1.42 I haven't seen one drop their bombs at all.

Best Artillery Strike for me...
reaper replied to Thundercok's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
I've written an arty script, I've submitted it to the editingcenter, but it hasn't been added yet. Its player controled, and you can edit the options to change the size of the hit zone, ammo type, etc. Â You can also call in smoke, and flares. My site is down at the moment, and this board doesn't allow attachments, but you can find it here. Scroll down to the bottom to get the latest version. -
I never use the "group this" command. If you put something in the leader's name field, it becomes the groups name. You can remove a unit from a group, or assign it to another group by using the "join" command. For example: This will remove the unit1 and unit2 from thier current groups. [unit1,unit2] join grpnul This will change assign the player from its current group to another group: [player] join othergroup Of course if your planning on removing a unit from a group later on, you will have to give each of those units its own name.

Well first of all, allowdammage doesn't work anymore. They removed it in the first patch. Just use the ammo slider all the way to the left to remove the heli's ammo.

Don't use a S&D waypoint. That makes them search the area around that wp for enemies. Just use a move waypoint instead.

I was playing a mission yesterday, and all of the sudden my men ran past me and kept running. I ordered them to return to formation, and the radio message that played was "all follow 2." They proceded to run toward the enemy and get slaughtered. This has never happened to until I installed v1.42.

The best sound pack out now is this one: http://jim_262.tripod.com/jimssoundpage/index.html

A good mission all depends your opinion. I think the basic elements of a good mission are a detailed briefing, and I'm not talking about 7 pages of worthless text, I'm talking about a briefing that explains what you need to do, why you're doing it, and explaining the situation. You also need a good story line, if you have that its not necessary to have an intro or cutscenes. A well written story line can be way more effective than a fancy intro. Intro and custcenes are also a matter of opinion. I can't count the number of missions that I downloaded where you watch a 20 min intro, start the mission, 2 min into it you have a useless cutscene, 2 min of fighting and its over. It seems alot of people spend more time on their intros and cutscenes than the mission itself. This is supposed to be a war sim, not a movie sim.

I had deleted all of the SP and MP missions that I did not play, so I dind't have to scroll through them to find the ones I do play. Well when I installed the v1.42 patch today, it wouldn't let me becase those missions were missing, so it was a re-install for me. I don't recall any of the other patches doing this, I believe I had removed those missions prior to installing v1.40 .

Thats what I did now. Â I just renamed the missions folder to "Original Missions" and made a new empty one. [hint] I REALLY WISH BIS WOULD GIVE US FOLDER SUPPORT IN THE MISSIONS DIRECTORY. Â Â Â [/hint]

Seriously though, 99% of those shootings are with illegal guns, so it wouldn't do any good to put a ban on them because criminals aren't going to go to a gunshop and buy a gun. Laws only affect law abiding citizens. Maybe we should continue this in the OT forum.

You won't find it in the registry. The last lan party we had, one guy hadn't installed v1.4. When he tried it, it told him to re-install the game. He brought his CD, but not the manual, so we looked in his registry to try and find the key, but its not there. He ended up having to call and have someone read it over the phone to him.

I had a mission idea today, it involved artillery, so I downloaded some artillery scripts. Â Some didn't work (no docs either), the rest just wouldn't do what I wanted, so I made my own. Â I finished the script, but now I've forgotten what the mission was going to be about. This one places a marker on the map. Â You can move it to the positoin you want shelled, and order single shots, smoke, or let hell breake lose. No addons are required. Â I've included a readme.txt, and a sample mission to show you how to set it up. Download 7k File

I couldn't stop. I made a crap load of changes today. I think it will be easier for the "script challenged" to understand how to install. I added two types of ammo, you can switch between them, and also added flares. I fixed several small "bugs" that nobody probably would have ever noticed. Download 8k File

Just last weekend I was playing on a lan with 2 firends. We were playing a heli race mission usiing OH-58's that we made up. It has respawn, and I wanted some action, so I shot both of them, and ran. When they respawned hey jumped into the heli's (fully armed BTW) and started hunting me down. All I had was my rifle. I was hiding under a fat tree, and they were buzzing all around looking for me. I kept taking pop shots at them when they got in my sight. One of them thought they saw me near the fence line, and was flying real low over it. I was pretty close to where he thought he saw me, he was going real slow, and low. I got a good shot at the cockpit and poped him in the head. He died, and the heli landed without a scratch. I ran over, and jumped in it. The guy in the other heli didn't know yet. I snuck up on him and blasted him out of the sky with rockets, then went back to the airport and blew up the rest of the choppers before they respawned.
