http://www.31stmeu.org So here you are. Scouring the squad and fanpages' threads in the hopes of finding the right group to fit your teamwork style. I know it seems tedious and/or fruitless BUT... there is still hope. Here's why: -You won't be yelled at -You will actually move in coordinated patterns with fellow teammates -You will be led by professional but very down-to-earth people -Your ideas will be listened to and your opinions will count -You will be among a SMALL group of dedicated teammates -You will be talked to as an adult Upon filling out an application you will complete up to a 2 week trial period of casual gaming with the Unit to be accepted into our training program. The basic training program is titled Marine Corps Recruit Training (or MCRT). This is a one day (1-2 hour) program designed to get any prospective member into the Unit smoothly. He/she will learn logistical and historical Unit information, the chain of command, our Uniform Code of Military Justice (rules), and complete basic rifle and pistol training. Upon completion of this training the "poolee" will now be a full fledged Marine/Sailor within the 31st MEU. The more bread-and-butter information such as basic combat maneuvers in a fire team/squad, communication procedures, and weapons familiarization will be completed at a later time in another program named the School Of Infantry (or SOI). So join our Ventrilo server and talk with us. Find out for yourself if we are what you are looking for in a group. fluorine.typefrag.com Port: 9825 -

Both are welcome. We only discriminate based on you speaking English. No broken English either. Come check us out on our Teamspeak ASAP! I'm on right now. Teamspeak IP: 216.6.228.102:10242 -
I know this is going to sound really ridiculous but myself along with 5 or 6 other people cannot connect to any server currently. Â We are all located in different parts of the US with working internet connections (dsl/cable). Â We also notice right now that there are very few people online and that it's dropping. Â We noticed that during a game a few us lost connection and/or had a ctd and then that was the point when we could no longer connect to a server. Â Once the rest of us chose to leave said server we could no longer connect to a server either. Â We also all see the pings of each and every server with just a "?" symbol. If someone could try to connect to a server (no matter whether it is dedicated or self hosted) and let me know what happens then that would be great. Â Hope I don't sound too crazy. Â We are all at a loss for what could be happening.

Fromz's sound mod | ffamm1.4
Panko-31stMEU- replied to fromz's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
FFAMM for the win. When I heard your very first release I knew you had potential to make an insanely good sound mod. This only proves my predictions. Keep it going man. I miss the tracers you had in the older version though. Those with the current sounds will be a sweet combo. Man, if you, the FDF guys, and Chammy got together... we would have the ULTIMATE sound mod. Nonetheless, my Unit (31st MEU) and I are all using your sound mod and you have our 100% satisfaction and "2 thumbs way up". BIS should hire you. -
New guns! downloadable
Panko-31stMEU- replied to hotshotmike1001's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Sorry Mike, I don't think anything seems to be working properly. Â Sounds are the stock m4 sounds, definitely get rid of those, and the rof is WAY too slow. Â Get it on par with the Q11 rof mod; he has the right idea. The picture will illustrate my problems with your model. -
As with what my main Army man Mr. 19D cav scout... CQB is not MOUT. It's solely in one room or building. CLOSE quarters... not SORT OF close. And please don't assume to be some "CQB specialist" (whatever that means coming from yourself) unless you've been in some military training (IN REAL LIFE). If anyone was a "CQB specialist" as you so eloquently put it, it would be someone in the special warfare section of the military or to a lesser degree to your local SWAT teams. CQB can be summed up as: -assault/support/security elements (MOUT too) -slicing the pie -buttonhook and cross -violence of action -quick and accurate target identification -extreme level of competance on individual movements -muzzle and trigger discipline -front sight focus and trigger squeeze -controlled fire and speed I am by no means "an expert" but I have a fair knowledge of what's involved for those who can actually do it. I am not even including some of the advanced training those like the SEALs get nowadays with using the weapon in conjunction with a pseudo martial arts program. You can't always kill, in the movies they do but in the movies they can get yelled at and then everyone is cool and no one gets in trouble. Sometimes a man may only have a bat or stick and is confused to what's going on and is caught in the middle of it. He may be hostile because he doesn't know who you are and what you're doing so you can't just shoot him. You put your SMG butt out and knock his ass down. Here's the quote from wikipedia: Anyway back on topic, I think huge cities and maps would be (larger than the ones in ArmA currently and on par with VBS2) great but unfortunately what's the point of having a ginormous city if only 30 people are playing? The amount of men won't be proportional to the area you're working in. In a city the size of the one's some of you guys have been talking about are pointlessly large. There is such a thing as TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING. Let me put it this way... are you willing to wait in an APC or UH60 for a 1 hour ride to the AO? If not... then there's no point. Already in the game if you fly from the airfield to Pita in the East it takes about 5+ minutes of just sitting in the chopper flying at an average speed of 170+ knots. It feels like you're in the thing forever (my opinion anyway). If they will ever make the map real life size with hundreds of thousands of kilometers of ground... you will need to set up some MMO type gaming system where there are thousands of people playing the same area at any time. But of course good luck getting any sense of a chain of command. There is only so much you can do with a game that is meant to be fun. VBS2 is the way it is because it's for actual military training. This is a time where it actually NEEDS to mimic real life as close as it can. There will always need to be an HONEST balance of realism and fun.

AMD 4800+ X2 8800gtx xxx version 3 gb ddr 400 180gb SATA 7200 HD 8mb xfi soundcard Everything was set on very high, view distance was at 3k. I noticed a GIGANTIC performance increase and was running between 30-60 (min and max) and with it being about 45fps most of the time. Whoever is not seeing a performance increase, your card is either not powerful enough to notice a difference since they will be noticed more on very high settings or your card just worked well with it from the beginning (the 8800's had problems since day 1, finally fixed now except for the fog distance problem). Too bad the demo is not worth playing since I have the full game. Can't wait until 1.06/1.07.

Evolution V1.0 Large scale respawn coop
Panko-31stMEU- replied to KilJoy -SFG-'s topic in ARMA - USER MISSIONS
Except for the simple fact that with the BIS intent for users to create their own missions... there is no legal merit with what you are saying so it's pointless to bring it up. Â Look up "fair use" and don't be a know it all. Â He's (CaptainMurphy) not claiming it's his and he is not trying to make a profit. What are you saying, that he is going to sue someone? Â He would have to register his work first of all before doing that. Â And I'm pretty sure by registering it he would want to be making money off of it, and I don't believe that would be legal. Â Good try. By the way, great mission. Â But I do agree that we should appreciate his work and not do anything against his will. Â I would not want him to stop his tireless efforts because people are getting antsy. -
Yes the MK19 does need to be as my astute colleague, Sgt. Mabes, pointed out in his original starting thread. The term "fog of war" comes to mind from the 19th century and before that time where the white smoke created by the black gun powder used would create everyone being caught in a real fog of gun powder. White smoke? I think not with a Mk19. This new thing called "smokeless gunpowder" was created a long time ago to stop this. Let's please have this fixed so we can use the weapon after more than one round of accurate fire.

Evolution V1.0 Large scale respawn coop
Panko-31stMEU- replied to KilJoy -SFG-'s topic in ARMA - USER MISSIONS
This is definitely a well thought out mission but some of the vehicle usage requirements don't work. Â By not working I mean by the time you get it, it's useless. Â Primary example... the M1A1 Abrams, you have to be a Colonel to drive it, a bit high don't ya think? Â Not even the fact that you have to literally be a Colonel but mainly because to get that many points within a relatively moderate time period you have to be using the chopper to transport people or even the 5ton. Â Most likely though the pilots will have the highest scores, from what I've seen so far, and those people aren't going to want to switch to driving a tank (I don't want them to since they can fly well obviously). Â So then you are stuck with waiting until you have cleared all but about 3 bases and by that time the distance to drive the tank is so far that there is no point in doing it. Forcing the transport chopper pilots also to have a higher rank forces friendlies to attack the enemy bases in a linear direction, according to where the road simply takes them next. Â You have no decision on whether you want to send a small insertion team into the main base at Pita or some other base and start attacking from two sides. Â You can't drive all the way there because of the threat of armor watching roads and enemy aircraft circling ahead. Â I suppose you possibly wanted it to be done this way but it definitely takes a bit of the freedom out of the missions. A good idea for the pilots and crewmen might be to make their classes not able to use anything other than a sidearm and smoke grenades but allow them to exclusively drive or fly anything to their respective specialty. Â This way you won't get the BF2 style play where people just jump in the chopper to get somewhere and bail out over it and crash it, BUT... you will be able to have people support the infantry with their armor/apc's/close air support/transport from the very beginning and allow the game to be given different strategies to win. Overall though it was extremely well done (2 thumbs up). Â Please take the last comment above into consideration. Â It was talked about over a long discussion with other 31st Unit members. Side thoughts: -too many attack choppers and harriers (4 harriers are a bit much, especially since usually no one ever levels up high enough to use them) -not enough transport choppers (used a lot, obviously) -
Not to be a smartass but they do have sound mods out that VASTLY improve the quality of gameplay. Try out the FDF sound mod. My Unit (31st MEU, US based) uses it and we swear by it; at least until something better comes out anyway. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=896 link^

Well amrax, apparently you're right and everyone else is wrong. My mistake.

Well put. Sniping is indeed hard if you're trying to hit a moving target at 500+ meters in the game. Most of the time your targets will be moving in a zigzag pattern and make it even harder to hit them. The fact is that this is just a game (albeit a simulator) and making it too hard will utterly make the sniper useless if less than 0.001% of the gaming community can effectively do the job. If you want realism, play the game against an elusive enemy that only shows up when he snipes at your convoy or sets off an IED after 16 hours out in the field. It's a game, get over it. SOME adjustments for the sniper rifle to make it more effective might not be a bad idea but adding wind, humidity, mirage effects or anything of the sort is going overboard. This isn't virtual reality people; it simulates the strategy and tactics of combat for FUN. The actual feel of the weapons or the horrible effects of them should not be a consideration here. But as others have said, if you are that adamant about getting all of these effects, be our guest and go make a mod. It's the developers’ job to make sure the OVERALL community is happy with the product and do what is in the best interests of their company. Make the game too hard or not much fun, then no one will buy the damn thing and they will go bankrupt. Use logic please. If you think these guys aren't satisfying you then you better never talk to DICE or EA. They won't listen to what you have to say unless you have a hundred dollar bill in their face for their time.

Only problem with this pattern you chose is that they do not in the least represent SEALs at a quick glance. If it wasn't for the content of this post I would never have guessed they were SEALs and I know quite a bit about them.

The game is still twitchy and 1.05 is not the final build. It is still playable but for high end users with NVidia cards, be warned, the new patch screwed up our performance (using an 8800gtx xxx overclocked). If you are going to dl the game like I did, make sure you turn all your background crap off and let your bandwidth be used only by the download. Get any family members or dormmates to chill out on downloads so you won't get any crappy downloaded files. I got my downloaded version that came in 1.05 patch and works well (other than performance problems). The game is awesome and will be well worth your money.

From what I've experienced you DO NOT need the turn actions. Turning in this game is a mix between pedal and bank. WHen you are hovering you pedal with turn and when you are moving forward or backward turn is now bank. If you liked the BF2 style set up, which I'm sure a lot of us do... set it up like this: throttle up: w throttle down: s left pedal: a right pedal: d nose down: mouse forward nose back: mouse backward bank left: mouse left bank right: mouse right With these controls you will be able to hover rather well using a mouse. You won't have to move your fingers at all from WASD configuration and 3 fingers and one hand will fly the chopper well. Try this out and see what I'm talking about!!!

On the flip side you have a game based off of the military where it makes good use of ranks. Â Ranks are perfectly fine to use and can help let everyone know what your position is within the Unit from a first look. Â The problem is you should not have a rank based on a job you are not doing. Â If you barely can fill up a platoon of men (speaking about the US military), then you have no need to have your highest officer being more than a 1st Lieutenant or at most a Captain. Â You don't want to promote yourself all the time and it takes members that have the ability to be humble about their position. Â You can't have power hungry @$$holes in the Unit and people who can'ty handle being at the bottom for a while. Â If people are new they shouldn't be given high rank quickly as it usually spits on the time the other unit members have put in to gain their current ranks and positions. Â Ranks work very well and can be a good motivator to help get people to get things done. Â Unfortunately the people who are in charge have to maintain the integrity of those ranks and you actually have to call people by those ranks, otherwise they are literally pointless. Â NCO's should be leading squads and officers should be leading the collective groups and speaking directly and only directly to the NCO's. Tips: Don't be in charge or in a leadership position if you can't LEAD. Â Don't kid yourself, if you can't think of good ways to go about fulfilling a mission objective, hand off the leadership to someone who can. Â A good way to find out quickly if you have the right stuff is to ask someone who you have been ordering around in game. Â If they think you have been doing a good job and the squad agrees with him, keep it going and try to learn everything on the face of the planet about combat. Â If you are the leader and you DO know what you are doing, don't allow lower troops to control the squad unless you have told them to do so. BIGGEST THING: You have to respect everyone within the Unit/clan or there's no point in having ranks. Â Rank should not let people feel obligated to talk down to others, it's really rude and really arrogent. Â Rank should deal only with time in the group and abilities/positions. If you are able to follow these things, you will have a good rank system that all will follow. Â "You can't force your men to follow you, you have to make them WANT to follow you."

It may be a lag issue. Lag can cause crazy crap to happen. My guess would have been that you were too close to the ground as well. It might also be that you're hitting a tree right below you. Just put your game into 3rd person to see what's getting hit below you when you fire your hellfire. See also what happens when you fire the Hydra rockets. Also, don't crack on someone's English when your English isn't great by comparison. It should have been... "Are you firing too close to the ground and getting splash damage?"
-
Well memnoch, I was using fraps but unless I make a video of the FPS moving up and down then you'll just have to take my word for it when I say it isn't anywhere near what it was prior to 1.05. By the way, why don't you just edit one post and not post 3 in a row??? And for whomever said there was new grass textures??? Umm pretty sure they just made new calculations for AI to not be able to see you through it or the foliage around you. Don't remember reading about any new grass textures in the patch. ^Above are the only references to grass in the patch update list. I suppose they did add grass in those last two quotes but that doesn't make sense with still getting crappy framerates in cityscapes. People with problems, try this: Stand in the road in a city with your 9 or 3 oclock to a building. Set yourself so that when you zoom you can't see the building next to you anymore and zoom back out with your weapon (not the iron sights, just hip shot zoom). After doing that in a few different ways in different places watch how it takes forever for the wall textures to load. That is not normal. Texture load times have gone crazy. Apparently 1Gb or 768Mb of GDDR3 video memory are not enough or 2 or 3 GB of RAM...

Because you know... I just waited for 2 days to get permission to post specifically on this forum to just make crap up. Â Most might think that that were a waste of time. Â Just because you're skeptical doesn't mean you have to assume we're all smoking crack and be cynical about it. Â Getting exact specifics would be nice; chances of it ever happening... slim-to-none. Â What has been posted is evidence enough that something is wrong.

ASUS A8N-E socket 939 AMD 64 X2 4800+ (2 x 1MB L2 Cache) XFX 8800 gtx xxx OC'L version 3GB DDR 400 (corsair and patriot) SATA WD hard drive X-Fi sound Antec NEO HE 550Watt PS -Lost huge amounts of performance. I was running the demo with 35-60 FPS in multiplayer with the highest settings (not including view distance, little over 3000). Now I barely get around 20 on 1100 some x whatever resolution and everything only on High (AA on low) with view distance at 1000. There is something really amiss here with the graphics. My drivers are the newest ones released for both my graphics card and motherboard. The memory choke bug stated before may seem to be the problem. Even when I turn things way down it doesn't really make that much of a difference. Foliage still boggs my computer down like a sand trap. Thank god the mission my Unit is making right now doesn't have many trees or bushes or I'd be partaking in Operation Flipbook. Bottom line, GREAT GAME... bad patch for NVidia and 8800 users. My roommate has a 7950 GX2 and he has a huge performance decrease too. His setup is almost the same except he has an SLI motherboard by ASUS. He has the same SATA type HD, same processor, same type of RAM but only 2GB, and same soundcard. He has all newer drivers and BIOS as well. We are both at a loss for what's going on and can only assume it has to do with NVidia brand cards (according to what we have and from what others have said above). This really needs a fix quickly. I waited forever to get this game and spent a lot of time and money to get everything right to play this game well. Very depressing after my 4 - 5 hour download and the $1000+ I spent to upgrade my machine specifically for this game.
