Patch 1.02 Released for Czech and German ArmA
PeterEyres replied to GermanPower's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
I haven't noticed any difference apart from the sound being better. Helicopter and vehicles hundreds of meters away now do not sound as if they are right next to you. Maybe this is down to the OpenAl Drivers. My LOD, texture errors are worse than before. And numerous clan members are still experiencing CTD's etc waiting for a properly tested 1.03.... Sorry If I sound ungrateful, but I've just had such a frustrating night with this game, I'm not sure why I bother. Before someone shoots off, telling me its my computer. my rig can run any game at medium settings. I will be upgrading soon after Christmas, and I also have friends with monster machines who still suffer from endless bugs and glitches. -
Got the latest patch, problems seem worse than before. MY SPECS: AMD 2800XP 1GB 3200 6800nu softmodded to GT and overclocked Audigy 2 Win XP Pro SP2 VERSION: 1.02. -Downloaded from Morphicon (maybe there is a trend here?) I basically get lots of glitches like this: http://img416.imageshack.us/img416/2086/lodbug6us6.jpg

Patch 1.02 Released for Czech and German ArmA
PeterEyres replied to GermanPower's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Thankyou guys! Fab Speed as usual. Another step closer to the game we have been truly waiting for -
well its clear that the buying public will be the beta testers for this beautiful but flawed game. Looking forward to a new patch. I think the main bug is the VGA issues (lods, textures missing etc). Not to mention the CTD's, application errors etc. Never mind things like tanks not falling off destroyed bridges, the issues mentioned above must be the priority.
-
I like how the drop and bounce (particularly the tank mg's etc), but the rifle tracers need improving, and I have no doubt that they will The tracers seem to be too long, laser like, and they shouldn't be on every bullet.
-
thanyou BIS, it seems very stable so far. Now we need the client side CTD's and the 'youve encountered a problem' crashes fixed
-
will give it a go, thankyou BIS!

I'm also very disappointed with the amount of bugs. The multiplayer infrastructure still suffers from bad sync issues, players warping across the map, and hardly anyone can get the dedicated server running for more than 10mins on WS 2003. The graphical glitches are horrendous. I can't list them all, but graphical glitches covers alot of the other things that I have seen. Weird explosions etc. Sound errors. You can still hear tanks that are miles away etc. HOWEVER, when the game works it is fantastic. I realise there will be patches that will stabilize the game ala flashpoint 1.96. And I also understand that the community will polish up the game. When the graphics are working fine, it is a stunning looking game, even on low to medium settings.

yep get it all the time in multiplayer, wonder if multiplay was actually tested at all

No, my friend has a dedi server up using the downloaded morphicon version, but its very unstable. Which I believe is pretty widespread.

Requesting a Server Administration Guide
PeterEyres replied to PeterEyres's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
Right sorry guys, I've checked the wiki several times and couldn't even find those pages I look forward to the special dedi server software Thankyou -
Right we are having trouble getting our server running okay. The dedi server keeps crashing (the game, not the actual server) and we do not know any of the commands to admin the game, change settings (get rid of seagulls etc) I cannot find anything on the net that resembles help. How do we expect the game to take-off, when the multiplayer infrastructure is so complicated, without documentation on the matter.
-
My friend has a (dedi windows) server up running, but when we both join it is just stuck on waiting for host. How do we bring choose missions etc? EDIT- ah okay the old admin login commands, found it!

I disagree. There is NO co-ordination in BF2, the only channels avaliable are Commander to Squad Leader and vice versa, and within squads. Squads cannot communicate with other squads However, commanders are usually non-existant or do not talk, SL's do their own thing. We should have differecnt channels or frequencies avaliable: Local, Team Leaders, Common (everyone) To avoid everyone shouting at each other, or slanging matches, just have a voip control dialogue where you can switch channels (ala red orchestra) and mute people you don't like (BF2) I would love to see some sort of dynamic and positional system, where you can shout things, whisper (Americas Army), and then the diffferent radio channel to different squads etc, and also hand signals (Americas Army)

Nice to see PR users, I was in -SAS- about a month ago and also helped betatesting. for me,PR is still just a stopgap for ArmA.

A proper server browser filter system may well solve the problem. How about when servers are put up, the game takes a 'snapshot' of the addons + missions on the server

I immediately thought of Korea. Communist North, Liberal Capitalist South. We might get tired of the whole LibCap v Commie thing one day. The cold-war esque struggles are kinda over for now, the commies lost. Hopefully the campaign and mod makers will take it in new directions, although even in OFP people struggled to stray away from that because created loads of units for all three sides was lots of work.
-
If BIS maintain their good community links, I could see this working and be beneficial. If for example, all addons were submitted via a forum to BIS employees to check over for quality (names, tags, no code bugs) and assign the signitures mentioned (to prevent cheats) this may well work out. Another, easier method: Design a decent server browser filter system. Stock Official stuff (for those that don't like messing about), the various total conversion mods. and then finally the server with misc bits and bobs in use. Whilst Its obvious that there are some mod producer that release addons of far higher quality, those further down the ladder still enjoy it and are offering time and inspiration to the community, and if you look hard enough, you can find things way out of the spectrum of your normal addon material. Constructive criticism is needed for improvement and development. Mods have kept the lifespan of OFP going for 5 years now, and BIS themselves have admitted that is has been such a crucial aspect to their success. Please BIS do not impose restrictions like EA's BF2 etc. If you are going to restrict the mods for ease of use rarther than cheating, then it must be done properly and in FULL, SWIFT and EFFECIENT consultation with the community (the addon consumers) and the addon developers.
-
Ideally we wan't EAX and 7.1 support, all the latest stuff. If you do have bass control, you can play about with even the original OFP sounds to good effect. I trust that the community is willing and able to quickly weave their magic.
-
the original one was excellent, a real classic. I couldn't care less about the box though. The new one isn't particularly bad, or stunning either.
-
theres no point in taking out such a popular feature. BIS knows that the key to a game with longelivety, it choice, and being able to tailor the game to your desires.
-
Yes, the RO sights are awesome, and theres no zoom on ironsights either. We need this in flash!
-
I want more of the same really. Just better multiplay net coding and more games, which I hear, is on the way. Apart from that, a few things that will make me smile: proper realisitc, unique gun physics. In the original, we all remember taking guys out at 500m with a silenced MP5, and you could also do it with a pistol. Better Tank combat, we need range finders, IR sights etc Fluid Jet controls, they were an arse to fly on the original. And again, on this subject, the sounds, for instance when a jet flys over you, needs to be more realistic, not just that awful whistling noise. We also need more enterable buildings.

lmao, that article is way off the mark. Soldeirs tossing cluster bombs into houses? Wtf. Poison gas Not to mention overwhelmingly biased.
