why should a fire particle lag a server? if so any explosion will lag the server ... i dont get it ... maybe you speak from bad experiences with some addon doing fires ... but why should a burning wreck wreck ;) the server/lag? ... i mean if you start to drop gazillion particles, sure it lags, doesnt matter if its rain, fog, explosion or fire that the particle represents ...

mmh.. ATC chat ... nice .. also distance dependend, although a bit further than directchat .. hehe ..

Hey i had loads of fun with that addon in OFP where you COULD actually blow limbs off and even disintegrate the whole into pieces ... it also had skeleton units and such ... blowing parts would make nice additon for all zombie mods and gore fanatics out there.. and another gamestyle ArmA can/could simulate, it will never end ... :D arma(b) rules!

well, fire has always been a important weapon in any military... past or present ... be it greek fires, flamethrowers or mk77 ... if there is going to be a 'resistance' addon later on it needs molotovs for sure... missed them in the ofp resistance ... its an important weapon for under/illequipped (para)militaries...

Support of different wavelengthes in ArmA2

spon_radar ... even with some 50s style radar screen ... could be even used in various modes and still its lot of space for more functionality .. i think about a trigger being rotated around the radar station collecting lists of all units, or one large trigger gets all 'radarenabled' vehicles and the other. rotating, trigger adds or removes them depending on some conditions and direction of radar dish.. like line-of-sight, decoy, atmospherics etc .. this then can also be used for tracking radars... even radar cones could be made by dividing the trigger into several triggers, each with different width and all aligned along the radar middle axis on their respective positions.... -
How Much Realism are you Content With?
PhilippRauch replied to An-225's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
no, keep both ;), but from realism/authenticy it must really rather be the M40, since the Razor team is USMC ... -
Maybe (hopefully?) it depends on difficulty settings?

get Mr-Murrays ArmA Editor handbook and you will find lots of useful information, also the site of dyslecxy (damn cant write it now, look @ my sig ;) ) If you dont have any idea, leave single addons out of you equations, you need to learn how to do proper addonfolder and such as well ... Stick with ACE for now, until you get a feel for the game, its pretty selfexplanatory has wonderful members and you will find lots of help online and in the communities to install that beast, yeah its a couple GB with Islandpacks etc... but it will also create proper folderstructure and shortcuts, so if you aint a computer noob then all will be pretty straightforward, if not easy! ACE already contains loads of AI improvements and since its still beta it will become even better, you can find many missions and lots of multiplayer ACE servers online... be it PvP or PvAI ... or just try the standard missions from vanilla ArmA with the ACE installed, if you mastered them in vanilla, heck you will be in for a surprise... I myself denied ArmA shortly after first install, since it was TOO different than OFP, but that was only in the beginning... after i got used to the new and much more settings and graphics and stuff going on around the islands... i was hooked! And most importantely ... Have fun! -
How Much Realism are you Content With?
PhilippRauch replied to An-225's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
BTW: I totally like the points about 'authenticity', 'realism' and 'freedom' as mentioned above :ok: I love ArmA (and did so with OFP) for its freedom... we can do WHATEVER we want, be it supernerdy 'realism' or arcadekiddy 'EGOshooter' or even something outright stupid... its up to the phantasy of the addon/missionmaker! Anyone remember the LegoWars mod for OFP?? ... just an example... total nerdyness but supercool... hell i am thinking of making a vibrating gatlinggun shooting pink dildos ... (pronMod anyone :D) Another guy did some visualization of mathematical stuff with OFP ... I also love celerys micro Deathmatch (or is it even Nano?) with random weapons each spawn WITH grenadelauncher enabled ... whooot! superdupercool... ah, i just LOVE this 'game'.... -

Boycott Arma2 Until Bi support legitimate addon developers.
PhilippRauch replied to PSYCHOSIM's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
If you think you have been robbed, just post the offending parties names here or some other thread. It sounds like this stupid behaviour is quite common (i.e. using addons other people made and distributing them as your own, if that is what you mean with theft), could you explain further? Boycotting a game that 'might' introduce tools at some point to counter 'addon theft' also wont help IMHO. I support original work, no question about it! I would rather put those 'thieves' upfront any forum i could reach to put out the truth about their dirty behaviour and as such make the community boycott their stolen addons. Is that what you mean? -
How about offering some service/franchise at Gamestores, where you can digitize your head and be able to use that ingame? Or some software useable with one of those DIYS 3d scanners? Or some import/export plugin or software or whatever to even use those simple 2d->3d head creation softwares out there (like http://www.facegen.com, although that one is quite expensive in full version, maybe the brandmarked head will work still? or some cooperation between both companies? Like a special ArmA2 OEM Lite edition, just exporting to ArmA or so...) Maybe its a nice idea to set up a scanner on a tradefairs or so for visitors to your booth... Just thinking of that one... maybe just a dream

Nice skins, i especially like the tiger one... ;) And if you ever get the firefox mig into game, try it with one of those brainwave mice, which are being sold for approx. 90€ ... :D -
Yes, i also believe its not so much about firepower these days but more of controlling/commanding those assets properly AND even more important in shortest time possible! And this is where most western countries excel, at their level of communications compared to other. I believe if all had the same realtime and quality of communications the wars would really rely on firepower or number of assets, or rather even the fighting spirit and there the westerners (and even soviets) lack quite a lot due to 'happyhappyjoyjoy' livestyles back home...

The ex-soviet scientist are much further in terms of electromagnetics and related areas of advanced physics, some of it isnt even looked at by western counterparts... maybe thats why they dont really are interested in stealth technology... because they just switch on some secret 'beamshield' and the minds of any pilot, even in stealth aircraft is gone... who knows exactly... Just look at what 'civilian' companies come up with in terms of advanced electronics today, like pain induced by microwaves or some accoustic systems currently in use by police/military. Directed energy and whatnot. Hell even the US military has some patents from the 70s which contain 'microwave area denial' systems and such. And all this stuff is only what surfaces now and only in fragments. I remember some statement by an US general it was something like ''What the Army has now in terms of secret technology is already 20 years ahead of what is available for the civilian market right now. Imagine what the intelligence agencies might have since those are themselves 20 years ahead of what the army has right now." I just think both sides just have totally different tactics and strategies regarding almost everything... the soviet even had (still have not?) 'proper' socks since they think a triangular shaped cloth is, wrapped correctly, better than knit socks...
