    Old problem...

"are u sure u have the latest drivers for ur soundscard?" yea, unfortunatly as i suspect my soundcard is not exactly 'top notch stuff' i think that the lastest drivers are probably a year old "Also maybe try turning any Hardware Acceleration on your soundcard off." ok cool cheers, will try it when i get a sec

    Old problem...

Hiya all, first post here, not even looked at OFP in almost a year due to a nasty crash i kept getting on my new computer, i've kinda given up on it, may need a new sound card or somthing but as i have a stupid warranty i cant open my case and so im putting off getting new stuff for as long as possible. I'll start at the start, my computer spec is: Pentuim 4(HyperThreading) @ 2.8Ghz 512 MB DDR RAM nVidia Geforce 4 MX440 128MB 8x AGP 80GB Hard drive space. the sound card is a "CMI 9739A audio" (as far as i can tell my motherboard is a MSI® MS 6743 ver 1.0, if that means anything to you lot lol) operating system = Windows XP i've got all the latest drivers and the latest Direct X. Please bare in mind that i played OFP for a good year or so before i got this new computer, the old computer ran sluggishly but had no errors. the system specs for this computer was : Pentium 700Mhz Voodoo 2(or 3) graphics card 256Mb SDRAM 50GB hard drive space (as far as i know it was a soundblaster soundcard but not really sure, no way to check either) I install OFP, (from a new legally bought CD btw, not a copy, i dont like copied CD's as it damages the companies making the games.) and then restarted the computer. I started the game from the start menu, the game starts up fine, all the intro bit goes exactly as it did on my old computer. then the menu, with the game sequence going in the background, then i go single player game (tried all the missions, same result) as far as i can tell as soon as anything 'big' happens, for example fireing a tanks gun or helicopters missile, the following situation happens, same every time; first the sound goes all strange, it reminded me of playing the old NES, all i can describe it as it 'old' as if the sounds quality is very very poor, then 5-10 seconds later (no more than 10 seconds at the most) the computer restarts. on the advise of a helpline i went into control panel -> system -> advanced -> startup and recovery -> settings. then unticked the 'Automaticly restart' bit, then went into OFP and into the mission editor, put down 4 US and 4 russian tanks facing eachother and played, after 1 scond the sound went funny and 5-10 seconds after that it dropped out, this time however it went to a blue screen, (not a blu screen of death, it was like a 'modernised version', i'll have to try to get the message on it, its just that i worry that this doesnt do the computer any good and so i havent got the actual message :\ anyway, the above problems seem to suggest the soundcard, and playing the game with no sound seems to stop these bugs, as i said tho, the last time i tested these problems was about a year ago, cant be bothered to have my computer crash out on me again and again so i've not even bothered to look at OFP in ages, just the other day iwas thinking about it tho, i really enjoy teh game and if theres any trick u guys know that could help me out it would be appreicated, thanks in advance.
