    JSRS3: DragonFyre

For those wondering what I was referring to, this is a simple direct audio recording (lossy quality is due to vocaroo) This occurs when I'm running script heavy stuff such as ALiVE and many ai all active at once. Pretty sure it's just my system not being able to keep up. Funny thing is that firing from indoors does not experience this, only when standing near obstacles such as buildings/walls. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1dEh59YAt5l

That's more or less the conclusion I've come to, I think it's directly tied to framerate, because when I'm testing it out on a relatively empty terrain, it doesn't do that. I think my system just doesn't have the juice because sometimes the supersonic echo doesn't lag and sometimes it does. Looks like I may have to buy a new system before I can fully appreciate what this has to offer, but it is quite good, I must say. And I do consistently notice that the phenomena takes place when I'm near buildings, it definitely sounds like sort of a dynamic echo type thing that my system just can't handle when I'm in the thick of a very active area. I also might want to note that it's particularly noticeable when I'm using ALiVE with the CQB module and there are quite a number of AI spawn points active or activating, obviously.

I don't have any recording software on hand, but I'm wondering maybe if it has something to do with the sound channel limitations inherent to A3, because as I recall while I was playing it was also raining at the time, lots of other gunfire, etc. I would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced it or whether it's just me. ---------- Post added at 22:06 ---------- Previous post was at 22:05 ---------- I think the distribution issue took people by surprise, myself included, that's all.

After having tried it myself, I will say that it does add some much needed atmosphere to the game, however I do have a question. Is it just perhaps my system or is there some kind of dynamics at work that's supposed to simulate the delayed supersonic echo of a discharged firearm? Because the result I'm getting seems... odd. It's like the actual firing sound is cut off part way, there's dead space and then I get the supersonic echo afterward, if that makes any sense. It seems as if something's not working, and it's happening in an area where there are a lot of buildings. That and the supersonic cracks are kind of ear-rapingly loud compared everything else, but they sound great nonetheless.

Well, it's a pity that some people aren't able to get it right now, now that my DL is finished imma go try it out!

Kind of has a point though, I really don't see the harm in people volunteering FTP hosting to help get the mod out there, but oh well...

Were it not for the fundamentally open architecture of editing and addonmaking this game would not exist, nor would it's addon community in the way it does today. That being said, releasing full or partial works of another without their permission or even so much as credit is disrespectful.

I noticed the download link from the JSRS website was taken down and replaced with a text file for a link. I thought it had something to do with the sluggish download speeds. Either way, I don't do torrents, not a fan. I get that there's problems with the download link, but I'm hoping that will be resolved. It'd be an awful shame if the only way to get it was via torrent.

Is there going to be a non-torrent download link eventually? I don't do torrents.

Absolutely brilliant, this was a wonderful surprise. Thank you so much for your hard work and for releasing it.
  12. I don't know if this has been reported but IIRC the last version of ALiVE I used did not have it. It's a bug in which the "debug" feature for the CQB module does not display civilian spawn points after being killed and restarting the mission. Everything is bare except for strategic points for some reason, kind of an inconvenience.
  13. I still haven't had any confirmation about the AR-15 pack, however it seems to not work properly even though I've successfully updated A3 after my cache got bunged up after the go-kart update. Still encountering the same problems: - weapon specific suppressors replacing headgear - Missing barrel? IIRC I have the right version of HLC_mods. Anyone experience this?
  14. I know we have the equivalent of the Dark Souls community who somehow want to believe this either doesn't exist or that people should just deal with it, but it's just really annoying. Really, really annoying. I know the partial explanation is that perhaps the AI "guesses" where the player might be, but in the particular case I was just involved in, the ai simply couldn't have seen me. I was basically seeing tracers flying out at me from tall grass that I myself could not see through without going into 3rd person view. The AI was laying down as well, and I was prone myself. I don't know if this is not addressed because it might make the AI seem super dumb if they can't do this, but it's just beyond annoying. I would rather have dumbass AI that pretends you disappeared after moving behind some tall grass than them somehow magically being able to know your location and shoot at you through it even though they themselves are thoroughly obscured. Is this ever not going to be a thing? It's just killing my experience.

Arma 2 VS Arma 3! You chose!

I can't really say one is objectively better at this point. A3 is growing on me, although A2 is unequivocally better for many reasons when it comes to simulating large scale battles. A3 is fairly well optimized graphical fidelity considered, and even moreso if you use a custom memory allocator and GMF. The AI in A3 can range from "meh" to impressive at times depending on various circumstances considering there are no scripted events when playing a dynamic scenario. I prefer A3 for smaller scale squad based type stuff overall. A3 keeps getting better as the devs work on it so I am constantly having to review my opinion of the game. They're both good for different things for me at this point. And A1 is just... It was a necessary step to get to A2 and thereon to A3. It was not well optimized although we did get some great terrains that I still use to this day (avgani and fallujah). It wasn't spectacular, but it was definitely an important milestone in the history of the franchise. And this series wouldn't be anywhere it is now without OFP, which holds a special place in gaming nostalgia to me. BI took a pretty big risk and deviated from market trends, and fought an upward battle from no less than PCGamer at the time when it was released. Had it not been for the success that OFP enjoyed inspite of those challenges, we may not have any of these successive editions in the series. I hope that BI continues that spirit of exploration as further games in the series and updates are released.
  16. I've been waiting to say this. But... "Get gud". The old aiming system was for plebs who couldn't handle A2, sorry, just dispensing some truth. I kind of wish BI would make it optional and enforceable via server rules, but honestly, the further away Arma gets from being a battlefield/CoD style twitch fest - the better.

    Missing Units

Yes, actually I just validated my cache and like 300 - some "items" were missing and they're now being downloaded. I wondered why I hadn't received any updates in a while, it stopped updating for some reason. Crap, it appears to be re-downloading the whole thing. Not addon related but do you know if that means my config has been deleted? It's going to be a bitch re-doing all my graphics settings to run decently again.

    Missing Units

Can anyone explain to me why any units that use g_balaclava_blk, I cannot see? I'm assuming these are the tactical hoods, are they BI items or are they addons? Is it an update I have not downloaded?
  19. I don't have much time to mess with it right now, I should be in bed, but I've noticed right off the bat the game is running better on average than it was. Thanks to those involved in creating this optimization, it's definitely worth the effort. I just discovered GMF and this combined with the memory allocator http://cdn.niketalk.com/1/13/13cdaa5d_b2ddb51a_tumblr_inline_mi32fkfsZ61qz4rgp.gif (725 kB) Dude, I have no words except thank you!
  20. I stumbled upon this site and found it interesting as I was always kind of bummed by the memory use limits in Arma 2. https://github.com/fred41/tbbmalloc_arma I suppose some of my questions would be for people who: - have used them successfully - have used them successfully with windows 7 - have an understanding of whether the ones available are relevant or useful given any recent updates to A3 as of late I have questions specifically regarding some of the instructions required for using them. Secpol.msc is not even available on my computer, I am capable of flagging applications to run as administrator, I really don't know enough about screwing around with such things to know if that makes the whole thing a non-starter. I have no idea what's required to lock pages in memory privilege for a specific application except their mention of a program I don't have access to. Any insight would be helpful.
  21. Amazing, it worked. Thanks for the heads up.
  22. How do I access those tactical hoods in the screenshots?
  23. I've noticed this issue as well.
  24. I've been noticing a lot of screenshots featuring black face coverings. Not a shemag, not a full balaclava, if you know what i'm talking about. I'd be interested in finding the addon that provides this. Unless of course it's something provided stock with A3, although I haven't found anything to indicate as such. Can anyone provide some insight?
