  1. Bull, I just copied the topic of the older thread as I expected a continued discussion about this longlasting mysterium - that is happeing to both ATI and NVIDIA users. Of course I had a ATI driver failure message myself :p But my solution of disabling the HDMI (high definition audio on gfx card) device has removed that paticular issue to 100% for me. After that I got other system failures that pointed very strongly towards the graphics card being faulty, and as a new 5970 card that I ordered last week as an option (they are kind of hard to get, so I thought I would just cancel it eventually) turned up yesterday I installed it and.... ARMA2 is now as beautiful, stable and decently quick as I could dream of :) The only problem I encountered after installing drivers was a total system lockup when I initially tried the game with both X-fi sounddrivers and the HDMI device enabled in devicemanager. Once again disabled the HDMI and now it runs like a dream for hours in row. Indeed the performace boost is not gigantic with the 5970 compared to my 18 months old 4870x2 card, and arguably not worth the huge pricetag  But running the game at almost maximum settings with the -winxp -maxmem=2047 commands (I also got default clocked 3.16Ghertz core2duo and 4 gig ram) I feel happy to keep it anyway. Damn, the card runs at almost idle temperatures no matter what I load in ArmA2 - maximum fanspeed has been 30%, haven't tacked activity level yet. But I will indeed check my luck on a warranty claim on the 4870x2 also. Now I'm of to check out other games -and I dont expect any other game being more demanding than ArmA2, would be hugely surprised if I get any more stability problems running anything now.
  2. Hello everyone! First post here for me in 5 years I hope you moderators dont mind me starting a new thread on this old topic, but here's a ling to an older discussion: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=72242&highlight=display+driver+stopped+responding Im just off to bed but think that I might have come up with a solution after spending 2 weeks and hundreds of $ to solve it. Been trying all different software and hardware solutions, but not until tonight have I tried to run games without installing the stand alone sound card (Creative X-fi Extreme gaming) drivers. I use a fresh Vista64 ghost-image to reapply between test changes. I got an HIS 4870x2 gfx card and are running Vista64 bit. As the original thread implies this is a problem for both NVIDIA and ATI users indeed, but maybe sound drivers is the common problem? The catalyst diver pack installs a ATI HDMI driver, that I tonight have used as the sole audio driver (I use an 40" LCD TV as monitor) while doing my usual benchmark of flying around a low altitude in ArmA2 until the error appears (usually coomes after a few minutes to an hour). Now I ran for more than 2 hours without any signs of problems, even tweaked up the graphics to ~95% of whats possible. Well, think I'm on to something and will hold my plans to buy a new MB and gfx card a little. Tomorrow I will try disabling the HDMI function and install my X-Fi as the sole sound hardware. I made searches on google about this, but only found one person mentioning it, and he - DocMartin - had neither seen in mentioned anywhere else: http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=104677&STARTPAGE=9&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear Anyone else suffering from this? Please give your thoughts. Off to bed

Hello, Once again idle-browsing around here, I could'nt help noticing how empty Göteborg (in Swedish!  - Gothenburg for you english types) is on the map. And thought that since I am a faithful member - in my own way - of this great community, I have to bring some glory to the Swedish west coast  So, please add me to Gothenburg, Sweden

    The Iraq thread 4

<s>Maybe noone here has met him in person, but if I recall it right Pins-Da'Smoka (or how he spells his nick name) is stationed in Mosul... It was the first thing that came to my mind when reading about the 22 dead at the base.</s> EDIT: I did a search for PiNs_Da_Smoka and found that he has written "No longer in Iraq....so....ya know....yay.... ;-) " in his signature But otherwise I share the view of bn880 and denoir that it don't feels very 'rewarding' (personally or globally) to care much about the war in Iraq anymore. Especially not since the one ultimately responsible for the war recently got honoured with another 4 years (not because of hte Iraq war indeed - but due to great things like the 'war on terror' + abortion, homosex and stemcell-research phobia). My stance on Iraq these days has rather crossed the border to the lands of hopelessness and apathy, while it since late 2002 until Bush's reelection only were close to that border...

    Return of the king

Personally I think the ending is quite decent - but then I have also waited 17 years (read the triology when I was 13) for a good reproduction of the books.... Lets put it this way: the long ending makes up quite a decent farewell to this dream come true - that the movies after all are for most fans of Tolkiens works.

    Return of the king

Hello everyone Just came home after watching the extended version of Return of the king (with some friends & great home cinema equipment), and I got to say: I'm very satisfied at last! If the original cinema version was, lets say, 40% perfect - then the extended version is maybe 85% perfect!! Its only 48 minutes added, but not many frames of the movie are left unchanged - especially the light-setting is greatly improved, many many scenes are longer and make more sense + alot of new great scenes. I was still a little disappointed with ~5 minutes when Legolas still is glued to the Olifant + some other scenes around that... But still probably the best movie I have ever seen! As for the triology as a whole, the 2:nd DVD disc of The two Towers (except when Legolas (again) goes down the stairs on the shield) + the first disc of Return of the King combined is simply the most perfectly made piece of media I can ever dream to experience Â

Annan for President! Iraq war illegal, says Annan Well, he's not alone in hoping........ He has been quite harsh before, but this I think is the first time he called the preemptive invasion of Iraq illegal.

    The Middle East part 2

Something that also the English national (football) team führer - Sven Göran Ericsson - has found out. He has started coaching the Israeli/Palestinian "Peace Team" consisting of 8 Palestinian & 8 Israeli boys + their respective 'sub coaches', instead of the English senior lads  http://www.gothiacup.se/eng....&Id=102 If you want to see him during the opening ceremony of the just started youth football tournament "Gothia Cup" here in Gothenburg (and also fail to understand what Svennis and the journalist says in Swedish ), then look at the video on this page: http://svt.se/svt/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=10694&a=230304 btw, this is how most of us Swedes look like right now, but maybe this particular guy is motivated to hurry up from the mud to meet the Greek girls EDIT- Fixed image links since they just uploaded the 04 opnening ceremony pics - still can't find a pic of Svennis with the team though.

    UEFA Euro 2004

Oh my fucking GOOOOd! Greece did it!!!!!!!!    And the Portugese went down to HELLAS!  Congratulationis and maybe also Dankinis to the probably not so unimportant King OTTO  I just came home, and at once recieved a phonecall from my brother who arrived today for a 2 week holiday on Crete (that bastard ). We tried to call him right after the match, but did not get connected. He told me that just seconds after the final signal they executed massive fireworks in central Rethimnon were he saw the match (well, he did not really see the match - but 'got the picture' from the audiences at the overfilled tavernas  ). And the party goes on......... Since I drove him and his girlfriend to the airport, I got to borrow his BMW while they are away (well, that's something to compensate for the suffering after all ), and took the way past the Avenue here in Gothenburg on my way home from the match and gave the celebrating Greeks some good honking, and stopped for a cigarette there to share their joy - even though they were not very many left actually as I passed soon after midnight  ooohhhh damn...... How nice would it not be to be down there now, the party of centuries i hot Greece, while us left with this shitty Swedish summer (the worst I can remember) that fail to deliver temperatures over 20 degrees celicius, but lots of rain..........  Â

It was perjury..... Yeah, whatever - but you got my point. hey, he or whatever said all.... And my point was that US presidents dont get what they deserve (when starting a war of agression against, or for serious involvement leading to many peoples death in, Iraq for exampel), like some others do......

Thinking about how depressed one can be from TBA's foreign policies and warmongering, take a look here if you dare: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....st=3360 Some of the greatest jokes of all times on this forum can be found there (the very best jokes staring on post no 8 by Oligo with an answer to an ongoing discussion about banning landmines or not), but be warned - there really was a good reason for cheering up in those days, and going there could bring back some nasty vibrations  Â

    UEFA Euro 2004

Well, HUGE congratulations Hellas   Even though I must say that I was just as shocked after yesterdays match as after the match against France..... Me reflecting alot about rigid, stereotype rationalities as part of what I'm currently doing, ofcourse had to reflect over how hard it is to overcome that 'the great -reputed- teams should almost always win' rational  But as I also know, the 'Globalisation of football' quickly results in teams performance evening up globally, due to spreading of 'winning concepts' and other knowledge. I got no problem with that, as long as there is some beauty and charm left in most matches - except for when I'm stuck in old rationals that is And I'm a little jealous of my oldest brother who will go to Crete on sunday for a two week holiday. What an incredible timing - those two weeks will probably be the best weeks one could spend in Greece for decades, at least if Greece wins    Regarding that more technology should be integrated in football to get more just refereeing, I got some bad vibrations in sight. A German company has already developed and tested an electronic sensor-system, with sensors around the pitch, in the ball and on the players...... If that first step is taken, footballplayers will probably be dressed in special full-body-coverage-dresses in a few decades, and then just more and more  I think that one of the many great things about football is that as it is now, poor kids in an African village can play football under almost the same conditions as the great players do during a World Cup. With more and more technology, it will probably not 'be the same game' that the spontaneous players can play out on the grubble square (sp? ), as is played in 'the great leagues/tournaments'. And that is taking away a dimension from football IMO. Once the first step is taken, the next will come in no time.......... Â

Nice reading shinRaiden (even though I don't remember the names of all those institutions for 5 seconds ) I just hope that you don't take my post all too seriously, because of waht I'll write below. An awful lot of the kind of can and could indeed. But as we all know a modern US president will only risk impeachment if he has sex in outside the merriage and lie about it in TV Â Â Lying in TV for months to get a war, that makes a president a HERO And if you are sceptical about how anyone could suspect Bush & co of lying to get the war - just look at the fact that the biggest global antiwar demonstrations since the Vietnam war took place on February 15 2003 (in which several members here participated in, me included). Maybe if the USA would accept the ICC, Bush would have a chance of getting his rightful punishment, even though no chance of facing death. But as it is now step no.1 in your (very good indeed, if its correct) 'road to capital punishment explanation' could never be executed due to a majority of Republicans in the congress IIRIR. Â WTF are you writing? Â I can't be assed to get the dictionary, but I suppose you mean that there is no reason for me being an ass. But I have no problems complaining about some idiots that put mine and billions of other humans hope of the (a) future on stake........ As a matter of fact, the Bush administrations foreign policy has made me very depressed sometimes, making the future look all black - and for that I'm all for giving him a good spank myself Â

In all fairness, if its so obvious that Saddam should be killed no matter what - then Bush and co. should surely be sentenced to death too - after all they share similar crimes, like starting a war of aggression and torture etc. Also previous US administrations should be sentenced to death since they are very closely involved in the majority of Saddams killings: -Letting down the Shia & Kurdish uprising. -The acceptance of Saddams gasing of ~5000 Kurds. -Prolonging the war and supplying boith sides during the Iran-Iraq war. -& (correct my if I'm wrong here) being the major power pushing for the most brutal sanctions ever put on a country. -etc This makes me remember to chance back to my old sig again, since the Swedish guys has gone home from a wonderful football tournament. I will probably continue using this poor sig until Bush and Blair is hanging high enough to make all future attemps of preemtive war, based on lies, impossible (at least from what is called 'the civilized world ' )
