Actually Kamak you are mistaken.  Here is some of my conversation with Suchey ... "Mako-- Holy shit!  Nice work man!  You absolutely have my permission to send that out!  That rocks! Everything looks good to me.  Thank you for taking the time to do this!  Does it interfere with any missions which ar already out?  It doesnt look like any of the changes would casue many problems. In any case...thanks again and yes...by all means feel free to distribute the package!  I will more than likley update the pack at digitalgrenade as well if no problems arise in regard to the missions folks are using.  I wonder if the changes could be distributed via a config upgrade...hmmmm  food for thought!  (its been so long I can't remember the methods we used). -Suchey www.digitalgrenade.com (after some procrastination) ... Hey Suchey, I just wanted to let you know that I still plan to release the update to the Marine pack.  I took a few days off as I was in the process of moving (I'm Canadian fyi)  but I''m finally settled and got my internet going again.... Alright I'll try to address your questions and comments. About this version and its compatibility with ECP... This version of the file is the v1.1 upgrade to the Marine Assault pack files that are available on the Digital-Grenade website. A while back I spoke to Suchey and he said that (when he gets around to it) he will update his website with this file. Â Replace all old files with new ones (actually TactEvent has not been edited). That being said, these are not the ECP files ... as it says on the ECP website "The default version of the Marine Assault Pack will not work with the ECP. Download the ECP-compatible version below. This component is an optional addon and will work with any of the available ECP configs (ECP, ECP/DR, ECP/INQ). Note: Because of complications in the MAP addon, at least one default BIS unit is required in a mission containing MAP units in order for the ECP to initialise. (Download link) Installation: Download the above zip file to your computer. Extract the contents of the zip into your \Res\Addons folder (overwrite old MAP files)." THIS IS THE NEW DEFAULT VERSION, NOT ECP VERSION. Â That doesn't mean its not compatible, but to be safe, if you play with ECP (not everyone does mind you), then keep using the ECP files. Â **You should note that Suchey had nothing to do with ECP (or its files), and nor do I. Â But since there seems to be a lot of interest in the ECP version of this pack, Â I wil contact the ECP guys, find out what they did to make it ECP compatible, and make an ECP version of this file too (with their permission). I hope this satisfies people and I apologize for adding to the confusion that was apparently already there. About the Javelin... The top attack was NOT removed, Â it was never there in the first place. Â It was only a function of the Missile drop and the site. Â That is, YOU HAD TO FIRE IT UPWARDS OR IT WOULD BLOW YOU UP. Â Unfortunately, the AI CAN'T fire it upwards, so they would always blow themself up. Â All I did was minimize the drop, and tweak the thrust of the missile so the AI can use the Javelin in direct fire mode - It will skim the ground but wont hit it. Â But human players CAN NOW FIRE IT BOTH WAYS, JUST LIKE IN REAL LIFE. Â If you want a top attack, just aim slightly upwards. Â The Javelin missile locks to it target and tracks it so it will arc down towards the target after being fired. Â I did NOTHING to change this feature. Anyways I hope this helps. Â Give me a few days to find out about the ECP version.... Mako

Hey guys, I'll try to answer all questions the I can.... Miles Teg:  I didn't add a new sniper rifle because i didn't want to add any new content to the pack.  If i did I would have added an M40 for West and a more modern sniper rifle then the SVD for the East (like the VSS).  I also would have liked to add a russian equivalent to the Javelin, and ghillie suited or camoflaged marines.  Of course adding new content always entails either creating a whole new set of class names, or adding a requirement for some other addon, so, as I am not a great weapon maker (not even close to the caliber of Earl), and I didn't want to add any other file requirements, I elected to use default BIS weapons instead.  That being said I would gladly entertain making a version 1.2 with updated newer weapons (like your M40) if I had Suchey's permission, and if they measured up to the weapons already in the pack.  Send me a link for it and let me check it out.  I'll put my email at the bottom of this post. Munk:  I didn't make the SMAWs/RPGs more powerful because I didn't want to mess with the "spirit" of what Suchey and the gang were trying to accomplish.  I only messed around with the flight model so the AI could use them without missing all the time.  I agree that they are a tad underpowered (but more realistic then BIS LAWs for sure) , and in reality AT and HE rounds are actually the same size (they come in these standard size cannister/magazines that load in the back).  But I felt that they meshed nicely with the game, so in the interest of balance i left their power and size as is. Heartseeker:  I added a bunch of new units basically to take advantage of all the awesome weapons in the pack that normally just sit around getting dusty in the ammo crates.  Here is a list: USMC Rifleman (M16A2) USMC Desert Rifleman (M16A2)           USMC Sniper USMC Desert Sniper USMC AA Soldier USMC Desert AA Soldier USMC Force Recon Scout Sniper USMC Force Recon Assault Grenedier    USMC Force Recon Laser Designator      USMC Force Recon Assault MG       Russian Naval Infantry Sniper Russian Desert Sniper  Russian Naval Infantry AA Soldier Russian Desert AA Soldier Russian Naval Spetsnaz Demolitions     Russian Naval Spetsnaz MG   Russian Naval Spetsnaz Grenedier    Russian Naval Spetsnaz Sniper         Russian Naval Spetsnaz Saboteur I also added new groups including Desert groups and 2 Special Forces groups (one silenced, one assault) for each side.  Some of these units are not necessarily the most realistic (such as USMC snipers use M40s not M21s)  but I tried to be true to the content already there.  Sanctuary:  I used the the models I figured were the most appropriate for the snipers.  I had my own little sniper fashion show, and looked for soldier pics on the web and after much deliberation I elected to use the units with the ranger hats (I think thats what they're called - the cowboyish hats at any rate) for the west, and the bandana heads for the east.  Ghillie or camo units would have been nice but I'm a coder not an addon maker.  Actually there was a cool yet unused ghillie suit texture made by Suchey and the gang hidden in the pack ... I really would have like to use that somehow ... maybe someday  Ronin:  This will screw it up as much as the original version would.  If you can have both versions of the pack installed (the original and the ECP version) and have no conflicts, then there would be no problems with this newer version. Anyways I hope this answers your question.  I'll keep checkin on this post and answer further ones if they arise. Or just email me. Mako Mako_969@hotmail.com

Well I actually went out and did it. Â With Suchey's permission I upgraded the Marine Pack. Â No major changes or anything (sorry no new weapons), just tweaked out all the bugs that I could. Â Here is a list of version 1.1 changes. 1. Â Fixed the Desert USMC Medic so he can heal 2. Â Fixed the BS1 grenade launcher so it can use the BS1vests 3. Â Improvement of the AI's aim with the SMAW/RPG (so they don't miss all the time). 4. Â Fixed the Javelin Launcher so the AI can use it without blowing self up. 5. Â Allowed the Javelin to target Air targets 6. Â Added USMC and Russian Snipers (using the BIS M21 and SVD) 7. Â Added USMC soldiers equipped with the c8xM16A2 8. Â Added Grenade Launcher Vests, RPGs, SMAWs, Javelins, and Javelin Rockets to the Ammocrates 9. Added many New USMC and Russian Naval Infantry units 11. Allowed weapons to use BIS mags, grenades, and mortars 12. Added new groups for editor This version won't cause any conflicts with missions made using the original. Â Just replace all your old files with the new ones. Â Let me know what you think... http://icm.klan-host.com/SUCHmarines.rar Cheers, Mako PS. this link won't be around for long as my clan is no longer active. Â So if someone could host it that would be much appreciated.
