    I've just installed the ArmA2 demo, to see if it'll run on my Laptop, as I'm not certain I have the right specs/software, and also wanting to see how it looks like on my small 17" screen. It installed and stars great, after I instralled some new drivers, but the first time I ran it, the graphics were very slow on the main menu, and crashed, only running for one second, and freezing for the remaining two! The game started OK, but was unplayable at how slow the graphics are - completely frozen for like five seconds for ever second they run! Here are my specs: Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1. 10 A13 Processor: Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86 GHz (2CPUs) [[so I figured overall speed would be like 3.6GHz]] Memory: 4GB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 10 ------------------------------------ Display: Name/Chip Type: Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family DAC Type: Internal Approx Total Memory: 358MB Current Display Mode: 1280 x 800 (32 bit)(60Hz) -------------------------------------- I admitt I'm a complete retard at computers, and GCSE IT did nothing to prepare me for the real world, just like virtually every subject I studied at school, but my hardware seems to pretty much meet the minimum requirements. I've been really looking forwards to this game, and been almost obsessively following it's features and development from the time it was announced, and I'd really appreciate any help with my problem. Is it a hardware problem, where my computer doesn't mi specs, or is it (hopefully) a software or other problem which I can fix? Thanks very much all for your time. :)

    Quoted for truth bro, I never really though about all that SF BS before, but unfortunately, that's exactly what is is sounding to be like. I also loved the being a normal rank-and-file soldier in OFP. I remember the first time I played that demo mission, and all my squad was falling like flies - and I was thinking to myself "Wow, this is real war, none of the CoD magically indestructable team-mates or you being rambos while the enemies respawning, weak idiot you kill by the dozen. This SF crap does seem like it's aimed at pleasing the console-tards (yeah, I'm buying for console, but I'm not like the generic console-users). The only redeeming thing it seems is being able to form alliances and pitch one side against the other. If that is the case, you can expect me to go with the Russians and kill all those Chernarus army fuckers - remember, there are two sides to every war, and being able to go against the game design and help the "bad non-US allies" would be awsome. I'm really hoping for it to be very similar to all those dinamic campaigns the fans have managed to master, and their awsome feel. I love that free-roam feeling, and in a battle-sim - it's gaming heaven!

    I just started this topic for general suggestions for ArmA 2 that don't go anywhere else. Basically just random shit. I got OFP GOTY, and I must say, despite being probably the best, most impressive game I ever played - to me on par with GTA 3, which is my other faverout game of all time - I was disappointed with the Resistance side. First of, when I first played the demo, I thought it was bugged, and reinstalled/downloaded it multiple times, as the resistance design just did not make sense. The units looked like regular soldiers FFS, nothing like the first thing to come to mind from a guerilla resistance. They were also very well equiped - even having tanks/APC's, which in reality is a big luxury to many third-world countries main military - never mind a rag-tag bunch of militia from some tiny Islands somewhere. Another thing I disliked was how they had an unconditional support for the US. I personally would have imagined they would switch sides sometime (well I haven't finished any Campaign yet, but I'm guessing that ). While that might have been acceptable in a Soviet-Era game, I really don't want to see that in a near-future setting. I understand the great developers of OFP/ArmA are Czech, and have a clear anti-Soviet/Russia bais after the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, and later how the Soviet union fucked them over and out with it's failure and collapse, but I really don't want to see that in their work. The most disappointing thing in OFP is Red Hammer's sudden switch of sides of the main character, which was patently ridiculous. As we know nowadays, virtually all Resistance groups seem to be anti-US, badly armed and generally wear a rag-tag of civilian and military clothing - with the tiny exception of groups like the FARC-EP, who live in communities deep in the jungle, and all they wear is fatigues, and the AUC who are just Mercenaries. The current Russia/South Oessitia conflict is an invaluable source of inspiration for a future US Vs. Russia war. They should note the resistances and insurgencies are pro-Russia, and wear a rag-tag of old camo schemes and civilian clothes. Also, I'd really appreciate them trying to be as least bias as possible - trying to show the perspectives of both sides, and try creating sympathy and understanding for everyone's motives as much as possible. I'm fed up with Call Of Duty style childish rubbish of Hero Americans Vs. Evil Enemies - in real life, nothing is that clear cut, and as the most realistic war sim out there, OFP should take responsibility on that to. Finally, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE have Blackwater-style mercenaries with the US side - in this new era of an increasingly privatised military, it will be silly not to have them. Anyway, please tell me what you guys think of my ideas, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Also, please share any cool and interesting ideas you have that don't exactly fit anywhere else.

    Did you play the Resistance campaign? They didn't originally have armored vehicles, besides maybe a few T55's. They stole the tanks from the Russians. In one mission near the start you have to steal some tanks from a small Russian base. They started with some AK-47s and some other stuff. And as you played through the campaign you could take Russian weapons and ammo to build up your stockpile. The main character was ex-special forces or something and was friends with the American Black-Op guy from the CWC campaign, which I guess is the explanation for the US support. Not entirely realistic, but there are reasons for these things Red Hammer was made by Codemasters, not BIS. Which explains a lot Lol - it also explains why the OFP 2 franchise (according to the trailers) looks like it totally sucks hi-salt, hi-fat mecahnically recovered meat balls - a modern version of CoD, with the Chinese thrown in. Don't get me wrong, I love OFP, just I prefer the real sequel IMO whhich is ArmA, so plesae don't flame. And thanks for explaining that man, but it still seems a bit odd they manage to steal and operate battle tabks with virtually no training nor spare parts. Saddam had plenty of tanks, but only used a handfull as they had no spare parts, and such intricate military technologies need constant updating and maintenance. Also, tanks have tracking beacons, so stealing them will lead the Ruskies right to the Resistance bases. But Codemaster's design explain all IMO. @ dentist guba: I don't think Guerillas have armour - I generally think of them as like real life guerillas like in Iraq, the Taliban and the FARC-EP, AUC private armies and the Tamil Tigers. They tend to stick to assymmetric warfare which doesn't involve armour, as there's no way in beating a regular force on their own terms. They should just camp in the forests, doing hit-and-run raids on the Americans/Russians taking small arms, and then leaving, or IED attacks. OFP even had an awsome game engine, which can easily make awsome guerilla warfare - I tried it in the Resistance Demo myself as I said before. It's unfare to limit the uses of this ingenius sim engine to mostly regular fights. It's also realistic to this modern era. Virtulally every major war since WW2 used assymmetric tactics - especially the recent ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Ok, sorry about the description - just one of my tricks to lure you in - being the attention whore I am and all... First off, this game sounds absolutely awsome, and i know I'm not gonna be disappointed as much as *cough*, *cough* GTA 4 - but hey, even if I am, at least I didn't buy a whole new system exclusively to play it. I'd definately like to buy this when it'll eventually come out. Anyway, from the info on the recently-launched website, it seems there's a striking resemblance between this game's theem and the current Iraq War, that I felt I needed to just point out here. It first struck me when I read this: Yes, winning hearts and minds like the US is trying/supposed to be doing in Iraq, and warring factions - just like the militias there. Also, there is a "Guerilla" Section at the top, which is suggestive of a significant presence and central role irregular combatants in the game. I absolutely can't wait to see there new Guerilla designs - I dearly hope it's not the pseudo-regular forces of OFP - who even have bloody tanks! Then there is this pic. US digital Camo pattern, army surplus/old/Police SWAT style uncamouflaged bullet-proof vests and helmets, Soviet weaponry and to top it off - an nice intimidating-looking balaclava (ski mask to you Yanks). Who does that unfortunate chap remind you off.... Picture. However, again brining back old peeve with the OFP Resistance unit design is that BIS has this habbit of making everyone a bit too well uniformed, especially those Resistance Soldiers. I can't really see the guys in the background of the OFP pic too well, but they seem to be identically uniformed to the guy in the fore-ground. Being Next-Gen, I really don't think it'll be that difficult to have a bit more variety in uniforms, especially with worse-funded units. Maybe they can even make use of the system first introduced in last gen, first in GTA VCS as first as I saw it, where the units are each randomly given different clothing/colouring of clothing from a selection, so they all look unique. I'm crap at explaining, and English is my second language. Basically, they can have variety for camo schemes, armour and helmets. So for Chernarus Security Forces, they either have US Woodland, Russian Woodland or US Digital Woodland camos, Black, blue or biege armour, and a black, green or Woodland Camo helmet. Each unit is given a random Camo, armour and helmet. So at the end, say the Chernarus Security Forces look a bit more like: Also, for the Resistance RPG fighters, they should not have both an RPG and an Assault rifle - as with the case of most guerillas - or even organised regular forces - in the world today. Also, I think that during the 1980's, Soviet RPG soldiers didn't have an assault rifle like their NATO counterparts. Oh, and insurgents like them: As an Iraqi who had relatives murdered and kidnapped by Iran-sponsered, armed, trained and controlled militias and even direct combatants from there, I'd love to fight those dirty exremist Ayatollah bastards in this game, but I guess Russia (one of there allies) will do somewhat, even if they'll never be able to be as evil no matter how much they try. So yeah, also, what role do you think the Russian army will play in this - the same as Iran in Iraq, or will they get directly involved and all-out war errupts again? Anyway, I just wanted this to be a general discussion of what war/conflicts you think this game is set on, and how do you speculate the units will look like, and what are they based upon. Anyway, I'd love to hear some of all you're thoughts on this, and see some more pretty pictures of what you want units in game to be based on . Sorry for this giagantic post - I never been good at summarising my thoughs - or anything for that matter. Take care guys, and thanks BIS - this game seems awsome.

    I totally agree. OFP has always been head and shoulders above all the other games in terms of maturity and realism - though it is still a kick-ass action game that'll get you shitting bricks on some missions. Anyway, the only single let-down in OFP - which is otherwise flawless is the story. I said this before, the Czechs hate Russia for the 1968 invasion, Soviet Oppression and finally how the Soviet Union let them down after it collapsed. They are dearly trying to shift to the West's sphere of influence. However, that does not excuse a CoD storyline with infinately good verses the dark side. The only certain thing in war is there are no good guys - just two sides using barbaric stone-age violence with their most modern weapons. I also hope this will be mature in showing both sides are to blame - all you can do is try your best to be good. You all probably know now (from the name too) that I'm Iraqi, and hate anything Iran with a passion after all they did to us. However, if I was gonna design a game about said war, I will at least show the less honourable things the US soldiers too, and how it is equally some of us Iraqi's fault for accepting to be puppets of Iran. @Big Rooney: That would be a sweet idea - just exactly what I wish for. They show both Russian and US motives to be less than valiant and honourable despite both side's propoganda, and you are left to act to get the outcome you think is best for the people - or maybe you just wanna be evil and choose the bad outcome.

I thought he would be the US-backed/equiped/trained Chernarus Army soldier, or a Security Forces Officer (like Police Commando) - the equivalent of the Iraqi Security Forces in this war. They aren't Resistance side, but with the West, and help them fight the Resistance. I don't really think he's a Russian because of the different US army digital uniform. It looks just like the US Army/Newer Iraqi Army digital uniforms, but in woodland colours rather than urban grey/biege/blue. Also his helmet and vest look old and not camouflaged like those of the current Iraqi Army. Lol, that's just my logic anyway bro. The soldier is definitely Russian- note that the camouflage he is wearing is not a digital uniform at all, but the "Partizan" camo suit that is popular among Russian spetznaz units: http://img107.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vsnoh8.jpg As for Russia's role in the storyline, it has probably been said before and will likely be said again, but parallels between their intervention in the game's storyline and what happened in South Ossetia will likely be unavoidable. My guess would be that the Razor team's initial involement in halting and pushing back the rebels might lead to Russian incursion, which in turn causes a larger Marine taskforce to arrive to protect the Chenarus government and them off in a brutal, but brief conflict. That is pure speculation though. You're right man - I just noticed too - the helmets are identical to the Spetsnaz's, and they got the exact same balaclavas on too! And at the story, I think I agree that it will undoubtadly have major parallels with the Georgia conflict, but the game was in development before hostilities officially kicked off, so they probably added that "hearts and minds" winning thing from the Iraq war. Also in Georgia, it was mainly "Army Vs. Army", and the resistance played a very minor role. I think they again will borrow from Iraq in the irregular factions fighting one another. Also, unlike the real conflict, here, Russia's side will loose humiliatingly and the US's will win. However, the thing with choosing which faction rules and pitting them one against the other hints a much welcomed detatchment from the side-taking and "infinately good US Vs infintely evil Russia/Soviets" theme which I really disliked. Hope they set new precidents with choosing your side via your actions in this game, like all the ground-breaking things the original OFP introduced to the world.

Also, I never tried to imply it was Iraq, but rather loosely based on the Iraq War: Warring Factions, Winning hearts and minds, who rules afterwards and a suggested heavy presence of Assymetric warefare and irregular combatant (the most common wars and combatants nowadays) with the section called "Guerillas" on the Official Site. Really looking forwards to this section being launched.

    That's the Iraqi Police Commandos - a paramilitary branch of the police supposed to be the equivalent of the US SWAT Teams. However, in reality they have been accused of using their US training to act as Death Squads to the initially US backed Maliki administration. Now Maliki's a mere puppet to Iran. In Iraq, the Police Commandoes wear that bluish version of the US digital Camo or the Old US Woodland like they wore in OFP. The Army wears desert Camo or plain biege. It is very confusing though, as they all have similar weaponry (AK's, PK's and RPG's) and similar bullet-proof vests and helmets. Recently even the regular beat cops are wearing military armour and helmets, but their normal uniforms underneath. They even use AK's, PK's/Fixed Browning Machine Guns and RPG's! Hope that helped bro.

    Lol yes, but you would have someone covering you. Also, then it's time to cut and run - that is basic guerilla tactics, and what they use in Iraq. You will never be able to realistically defeat a swarm of better equipped and better trained soldiers, who also happen to have better armour than your old Kevlar vets - so better live to fight another day. Besides which, this is OFP not CoD, so you could just run up into the hills, <s>put twigs in your hair and call yourselves the Wolverines</s> scavange some better weapons, and pick off your regular-army enemies one by one, or set traps for them. That is realistic guerilla warfare, not engaging in a full-blown firefight - unless it's with a rival, badly-armed guerilla faction, or the police or some other people you can easily take down with a few RPG's. Also, you can take the AK from a fallen comerade. I absolutely love this approach, especially with the OFP resistance demo I downloaded before buying the game. The first base I completed with a long-series of hit-and runs, with a massive assault when the tanks got taken out. The other place we ran into the hills and forests, took the sniper, and fought like we was Che Guevara and Fidel Castro.

    Well that's the beauty of FFUR - being the complete replacement mod for weapons and units thst it is. The weapons and magazine classnames are EXACTLY the same as the original OFP. So [this addweapon "ak47"; this addmagazine "ak47"; this addmagazine "handgrenade"] will work exactly the same - but instead will give you the updated FFUR AK47 and handgrenades.

    Hi bro. As far as my experience goes, the FFUR mod does not at all change/alter weapons/magazine handout, but simply the type - of existing BIS units anyway. I've played quite a few missions of all three BIS campaigns with FFUR without any trouble, so is your Campaign fan-made/added on? I encountered some trouble too with loading such campaigns with FFUR specifically the Retaliation one. Hope that helped you my friend. Take care.

    Awsome idea bro, that's exactly what I was hoping for. At the beginning, they can be just like the Iraqi insurgenrts at the beginning. Over time, they start getting a few pieces of uniform, so they where a rag-tag - maybe a few have camo trousers and some wear black tops and those very simple combat-jackets/net gear where you can just keep your assault rifle ammo. The start looking more like a militia. After Russia gets involved, most will have somesort of uniform, as well as more modern AK74's instead of AKM's as well as heavier weaponry like mortars and specialist AT/AA rocket-launchers. Also, just like the South Ossetian/Abkhazian sepratists, they will even have a few APC's and old battle tanks. They will become a paramilitary group instead of a militia. But that should be in the later stages of the game. At that point also, the US will get support from mercenary contractors - based arounf black-water, who have there own type of rag-tag uniforms made from older US Army camo schemes and civilian clothing. There equipment wont be as good as the US troops, but their sheer numbers will inflate the amount of the US side, making them somewhat harder to fight. Also, just a little peeve I'd like fixed. East side RPG soldiers - especially resistance fighters, don't normally have an assault rifle too - they just have the RPG launchers. This is especially true or resistance fighters, who depend on others for covering fire. Finally, Spetsnaz is the equivalent of Special Forces. Black Ops are top-secret, and officially don't exist (if they actually do that is). Those should be differentiated from SF soldiers, and provided for both sides. Hell, they can even make them so those 'break the rules' of a realistic war sim. They can be like even genetically/chemically modified super-soldiers - or have robotics-enhanced arms so they are like super-accurate with guns at full-auto, and take more bullets to kill. They should be extremely rare - and only do missions that side cannot be seen doing like killing civilians etc... I understand this is a realistic war sim, but something like that - almost as an easter-egg - would be awsome - especially is done extreemly rarely.

    This is intentional, it was something that was discussed alot when it was implemented in one of the earlier versions of the mod. (I believe it was one of the FFUR 2006 releases). In reality, Squad Leaders would wear the same headgear as the other men in his/her squad, and have largely the same gear. Think about it, why would you wear a beret or cap? You forego all the protection that a helmet offers, and it would mark you out, to all who can see, as the officer, which is exactly the last thing you need when an enemy sniper is deciding who he is going to kill first. Â (Of course, in a single player game this isnt really relevant, as the AI will know that you're a squad leader anyway, its more an issue of realism, and multiplayer) Thanks for the info man, yeah it makes sense. However, they already have squad leader and officer on the drop-down menu in editor, so why not make squad leader look the same while officer different. And also, I am pretty annoyed they didn't just replace the East Officer with a regular soldier model, but tried mending it, and failed. BTW, just wondering, how would the soldier themselves know who to fillow in real life? they must have like at least a little mark or something on their helmets.     Yeah, I second that. Infact West Officers always look just like regulars, I'm never able to tell since even before the 1.05 patch. The HYK mod they used has awsome textures for both West and East officers. Why did they only use the HYK OPFOR officer for East, then tried to "cover it up" after patch so he looks like regular soldiers with the helmet - and failed? This is an awsome mod - the best IMO - but please just someone replace both the officer textures, it driving me nuts! I'm sure someone somewhere will be able to change the scripts or something, as it already has the HYK mod, so just 're-route' the officer class to the right ones from that mod? Please someone help! Â

    Awsome addon pack, thanks very much man for creating and releasing it. I've very glad I'm downloading LoBo Addon Pack 3 too. Now I have exactly what I want to create my interpretation of WW3 in LoBo's Basrah which I downloaded before. My PC now is VERY slow though , but I am hopefully getting a faster laptop soon, and if I learn how to publish missions with all the codes, I'll release one or two - hopefully a whole campaign. ... all in the name of peace, to scare and detere us from allowing WW3 to happen in these very unstable and troubled times. Remember, war is only fun in OFP - everywhere else it's either sensationalised fictional bullshit or an evil reality.
