If you ask me, ArmA is strong for large scale (large view distance, high number of AI and hoefully players possible), so we should expand on this instead of copying what already exists. We should play on ArmA strong points, otherwise, what is the point? I agree that this is definatly Arma's strongpoint and I love the large scale battles in both Single play and co-op missions. However in multiplayer PvP missions I often end up not seeing any other players for long periods of time running around aimlessly trying to find the action until it becomes tedious and I eventually Quit to find a smaller map. Im not saying I want the game to be just like BF2, I hate the unrealistic physics engine and damage system but I definatly think Armas multiplayer could benefit from more focused fighting areas, progressive respawns and smaller map layouts with defined choke points. OFP + BF2 would have been my perfect game, realistic, yet fun at the same time. I suppose what I'm getting at really is that I was hoping for a more polished multiplayer game from BIS in general this time round, and when last year I received an email from Codemasters / BIS asking how important the multiplayer section of the game was I was expecting that they would put more resources into this area, especially considering this was what kept the OFP community alive for so long. Sorry if this sounds negative, I just want a realistic fast paced shooter thats easy to join and fun at the same time. Arma was going to be it but hasn't quite got there yet. Hopefully with good scripts and user missions we will get somewhat closer.

One of my biggest hopes was that BIS would look at the battlefield series and use it as a template for Arma's multiplayer. Unfortunatly that didnt happen but this is a good start by the community. I personally would like to see smaller maps based around this kind of gameplay i.e. BF2's Karkland map, with no air units and very limited viechles in general. Anyway keep up the good work if this can be implemented sucessfully it will be awesome!

I had a chance to play this mission last night. I'm sure it would be a loads of fun when working however the server I was on never actually got past the initial drop despite numberous attempts. Some of the time players would be stuck in the intro until they hit the ground, other times the chutes would open on their own meaning players falling forever! My first suggestion would be to remove the intro altogether from the next release and just start players in the air, I think intros should only be included for story based missions. Im not moaning by the way, I really appreciate the hard work. I'll give it another go on my own server tonight maybe it will go a bit better this time

Dedicated Server - Hardware Requirements?
Ninjia^ replied to satexas69's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
Thanks for the port info, I did a bit more digging and found this : To install a standalone server * Install the corresponding version of the game on any machine (you will need ArmA DVD for this) * Add the ArmA_Server.exe file to the same directory as ArmA.exe. Copy your already installed ArmA directory on to the server. * Create a configuration file for your server. See server.cfg for further information. So as far I can make out I dont actually need to install the game on my server I just copy over the directory and server.exe??? Does this mean I can put that directory anywhere on my server? Any help appreciated! Thanks -
Dedicated Server - Hardware Requirements?

I was just about to ask this, thanks. I am going to start hosting a small UK server on a Athlon 2800+, 1GB, XP PRO. Do I need to install the whole ARMA game on my second Pc aswell as the below? http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....1006005 Also while Im here what ports do I need to forward on my router? Thanks! -
Just a suggestion for BIS, when releasing patches would it possible to take the best co-op missions from the community and add them as official missions? Dont think you would even need user permission as you own the game... At the moment there are just too few official co-op missions in general and definatly not enough that support more than 8 players, also many of the server hosts wont go looking for community maps i.e. Jolt.co.uk that will just set up a map rotation and only ever use the official missions. Just an idea?! What you do think? P.S. Id also like to use the thread below related to mission download problems as another example of how more official maps would make the game more accessible. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=57588 Thanks
