Is this ever actually going to be fixed? I've run into this now after having swapped graphics cards and to be honest, running some commands and having to reboot my machine every time I want to play ArmA for any amount of time is incredibly user-unfriendly. It's a messy hack that shouldn't be required.

Serious Bug: JIP-LAGs (+ possible easy-fix idea)
NightShade replied to mr.g-c's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Can rate-limiting on the server's firewall provide a possible work-around for the custom file issue? Would testing with/without custom files help? Would setting MaxCustomFileSize in basic.cfg prevent custom file lag? -To Whom it may concern, Thanks for your help. Rate limiting on the server's firewall would only cause the lag to last longer as it would mean it takes longer to send that mission file to the player (as it freezes while it's sending it) so you'd do the opposite to what you want to do here. -
Improving Linux Dedicated Server Performance
NightShade replied to Actium's topic in ARMA - MULTIPLAYER
I'd expect 250Hz/1000Hz with No-Preemp or Voluntary Preemp to work best. The main benefit of using forced-preemp is that it makes keyboard/mouse action more responsive on that machine itself, while lowering performance of processes running on the machine. So for a server that would never be useful as it would slow down what is running on it, without any actual benefit. -
Those are bad ideas simply because 32 players isn't enough to fill out both sides of Sahrani (or even just one side in many cases). Also the police are stretched enough most of the time as-is.
-
That would leave cops entirely without AA. A better solution would be to deal with the people exploiting that bug (and also to report it to BI).

I have draw distance set to 700 for instance, if someone has it set to 1500 and sniping then you can imagine...
-
The draw distance wont be increased most likely because it would then give some an advantage over others who can't have such a high view distance, not an issue for Evo as that's co-op. Issetea, I don't think the game is saving licences when people reconnect, it comes up with a script bug about it too. Ignore that, just tested it myself and it worked, but I still have an odd error to upload for you.

BUGS - BUGS - BUGS - BUGS 1.22 - Money in the bank is NOT saved after reconnecting to a server (major). Pick-ups still for sale in Obregon but they cannot be purchased even with the right licence (claims you don't have the licence). Pick-ups now missing from police car shop. Various (quite a few) script errors (I'll send you screen-shots over ICQ tomorrow). AK ammo missing from the Police item shop (but AK-PSO for sale there, etc). Shop windows need to be raised higher or shrunk slightly from the bottom so that chat doesn't obscure the lower parts/buttons. Cops can buy and sell Drugs which means you end up with idiots using the cop side as an easy way of doing drugs. That's all that seems to have been noticed from about 32 people on a server for over 4 hours. BUGS - BUGS - BUGS - BUGS
-
Actually most people I know become Mayor not because they want to be Mayor but simply for the extra cash, they have no intentions on trying to sort things out or set anything up. There should be some obligations so it's not just a case of "vote for me so I can get some extra cash!".
-
BUG - BUG - BUG - BUG Issetea: Cops can buy explosives now but if you try and buy RPG or M136 ammo in the cop base (I'm assuming also Strella, Stinger, etc ammo) it gives a ArmA script error (the message box pop-up window) rather than a mission script error. Sorry, the error only shows once so I can't check what it was again. It was one of those "... not found in..." messages. Second is weapon selling prices. i.e. if you buy an M136 for nearly 40k, it only sells for 3.5k... that's a massive price drop.
-
Issetea, another large bug is that the Mayor can't change the laws, you get script errors. Also noticed that there is no explosives licence meaning that even cops can't buy any weapons with a grenade launcher as well as Stingers, Javelin, Strella, RPG, M136, etc... ---------------- Bug summary so far from me for 1.20: Can't change laws as mayor, causes a script error. Police can't buy explosives due to no licence (not purchasable anywhere). Weapons in civs inventories show as "...bool array...". Check for Drugs always claims that the civ has drugs.
-
The jail town is Obregon, it has a pickup shop and I -think- it sells Skodas (Issetea said that almost all vehicle shops sell Skodas so it's a guess...)
-
Ok, there's a major bug with 1.20. When cops use "Check for drugs" it -always- says the civ has drugs. You can try people that have just joined the server or just spawned, etc and it will say they have drugs. On a side note, it may be worth moving the handgun shop off the main road (maybe just down that side road past the Gas Station), it kinda leads to issues with lots of armed people messing around there rather than somewhere slightly more out of the way.

Link doesn't work, 404 File not found. Anyway, care to let me know how I can help with testing other versions?

Could someone please inform me on how to take part/help out with the Beta Testing? (I'm Enverex in-case anyone was wondering, this is my old handle).

Anyone else think royal flush stinks?

Aaah, thanks, it makes sense now but... doesn't feel anywhere near as exciting and twisted as it first seemed... -

I just finished Rahmadi Conflict and I'm a bit confused. The point in ArmA's original campaign was that it seemed like the north were attacking the south for the hell of it and making up an excuse when really the south were murdering civilians and the north was actually telling the truth. Now in RC it shows the North guys killing civs for the hell of it and has basically completely confused me, like none of the whole "the ones you were helping that you thought were good were really bad" thing. Am I missing something here? -
Issetea, just something that may be worth considering is making the lock picking harder depending on the vehicle. I.e. Lock picking a Skoda should be not particularly hard (although not too easy else everyone will end up getting their cars stolen constantly) but lock-picking an M113, Stryker, MH-6 etc. should be damn near impossible.

(Enverex here) What happened was that for about 20 minutes it seemed fine, but then it started seeming to lag heavily, as in very badly. People then started being kicked off by battleeye almost randomly (you'd get the "Losing Connection" message from them first) then they'd rejoin a little later after having been kicked off by BattleEye. About 20 minutes after that started I noticed no-one was joining the server anymore and then slowly one by one BattleEye was kicking off everyone from the server, the amount of players dropping from 15 slowly down to nothing. If you try and rejoin the server while it is in this stage you will just end up the the ArmA logo and freeze in the "Connecting" stage, you'll never reach the lobby. I don't understand what may be causing this though, 1.11 and BattleEye were fine the other day...

Well its really hard to venture a guess at how much diffrent the game will be. If the graphics stay the same as they are now, which is on the level of Arma's... then its likely the game won't differ too much. Simply becuase ArmA's graphics, while good given the scale of the environment, aren't really anything special. However I would expect the amount of units on the map at any given time will be lower, and the view distance will probly be considerably lower then the max PC view distance. Other then that any graphical diffrances will likely be minor. Now... personally I think its a terrible idea to make a 360 version. Its at least somewhat possible the PC version might suffer at the hands of a consol version. If the devs wish to just port the game, and not spend a long development time on the 360 version... they might just cut things from the overall game... things like dynamic destruction perhaps. This happened to The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion as anyone who really followed that games development will know... the devs ended up makeing the game with the 360 version in mind more then the PC version, and cut several features and scaled back the graphics in areas to make it smooth on the 360... problem was they made the same changes to the PC version, which on a good PC would have worked fine. Lets face it... the 360 is 2 years old. It was compared to a high end PC at the time of release. Two years is a long time in PC technology... and a current high end PC is far more advanced then the 360. On the bright side... play ArmA2 while Im away from my PC? Sure thing. Lol. I think you are a PC Fanboy. I see you have no Idea (I mean yet not you, but the other people they writing in this forum about such things like "Arma 2 will be horrible on Xbox 360 or something such things") what BIS would have from Xbox 360 version. Today, from PC games, developers like BIS would not have many money becouse the sellings of this games on PC is horrible. Why? Don't ask me. It is so. The best way to have many money is make a game for consoles. I think the BIS with ArmA 2 would have a very great future on X360. On X360 such games are very very expected. Well, PC with Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb, 2 GB and Dual Core e6600 is only a little better than Xbox 360. I mean with games not specifications. And what I found very bad in this forum is the fact, that when comes ArmA only on PC the people says "yeah this game would rox, and so..." and in the pc magazines and rankings this game I must say "sux"Sorry, I like ArmA but is it only a fact. Now the people are saying like you "this game would be not good on X360" and I think it would be complett different. On PC the Hype would be not so good how on the X360. When BIS found the publisher than with a great marketing campaign the people would see this ArmA 2 and they would buy it. It's my opinion. Ah and Oblivion, was so bad sometimes on X360 becouse they have a little time the devkits. Today, Oblivion on PS3 is so good how in the PC. Well, it is possible to do this, I mean make a game so good how on PC or allmost so good . You would see in the next year that ArmA 2 on X360 would be success. He wasn't at all. In the past every time a game was made for PCs and then they decided to make it for consoles too, it's become crap and generally much worse than it could have been. Two examples: Oblivion - Was going to be like Morrowind but to make it easier for consoles they used the crap inventory (one big list rather than the nice grid inventory) same for all the other things, big lists rather than everything laid out nicely. Deus Ex : Invisible War - Same story, went from a decent grid inventory and information displays to crappy tiny scrollable little things to make it easier to use with a game-pad. The textures were also crippled so that it would work better on the X-Box.

Wow, a few of you seem to be on right high horses today. There are valid reasons but apparently you seem to want to dismiss them immediately as "stupid pirate excuses" so bothering to reply to anything in particular will probably just get torn apart, so I'll just let you both sit on your pedestals and look down on everyone else.

Just because someone is using a NoCD patch it doesn't mean their copy of the game is pirated. I use NoCD patches for most of my games simply because swapping discs around all the time (I tend to flick between games as most people would with TV channels) it can get really annoying and you'll find your discs get quite damaged rather quickly too. It's basically just saving on time and effort. ARMA uses sceure rom which means a No-CD patch virtual drive is about as much use a Chocolate fire hose in an inferno. Unistall your virtual drive to get ARMA to work. That makes no sense, the majority of games available these days use SafeDisc or SecuROM and NoCD patches are available for all those. Give it a week or two and I'm sure there will be one for ArmA as-well. I'll stick to using the disc because having a 4GB file on my HD for no real purpose is almost as annoying, heh.

No, it's buggy and you need to use the mission skip cheat to complete it

Too difficult even on Easy Setting ?
NightShade replied to Captain Data's topic in ARMA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Agreed. Prone position is now completely useless. Everyone can see you but you can't see ANYTHING. It's like in Battlefield 2, the grass is only a 4m radius around your position, so to everyone else you're just lay down in the middle of a flat open area
