After a long time in the making, and endless nights of work, we are proud to present the BAS Island and OPFOR or "tonal-tango" pack. The 5th of october version has been released, i will add d/l links to this post as they appear. (Note: not the pre-release files some people have) A temp bas link is here: BAS Island + OPFOR v1 (115mb) We cant support the large file for too long, so please use mirrors as they pop up. Thanks to the following site there are some mirrors: Flashpoint.ru Mirror @WAR Mirror OFP.AT Mirror This African based pack offers a wide variety of battlefields and units for OFP:R. It includes 2 islands, Rebel forces, Government forces, Militias, and civilians and vehicles for the main forces. The pack also provide a wide variety of mission editing resources such as sound effects, objects and original music tracks. Included is a short background file on the island and units, Insurgency campaign part 1 (also in coop), MP missions, coops, and SP missions. From the Readmes: *************************************** Tonal Isle is a large world map for Operation Flashpoint: Resistance. Set on the south east coast Africa, and combined with BAS OPFOR, it offers a wide variety of environments and battlefields for OFP, and a scenario / theme to open up new missions in the Tonal world. The Tonal project has taken a very long time make, with countless hours poured into it over this year (2003) and before. But it is not perfect, so future versions will finalize things like urban models and vegetation. Being larger than the standard BIS islands, the Tonal isle can be very demanding for a PC, so the more powerful machine the better, especially for mission editors. Use of fog in places like the jungle does make the lag much more playable, the jungle was always intended to be used with weather fog limiting the view distance. The Tonali 1 isle is a extra bonus peripheral island, small and fairly rough, it is a lower-end isle for smoother editing and gameplay, a bonus for lower end PC players. There is a lot of space on the Tonal isles, so explore ;) *************************************** BAS OPFOR provides a comprehensive set of units for a ficticious African conflict. For more information please refer to the Tonal History document included with the pack. Features include: - African Government troops and support units. - African rebel troops and support units. - African civilians. - One unit per side that allows for custom faces rather than the default African faces. Every single member of BAS had input into this addon. The team has worked tirelessly to bring what we hope is one of the most interesting addons available in the OFP community. Enjoy the addon from the BAS Team! *************************************** Enjoy !

ROFL Placebo . Â You want no part of this at all do you . I agree the Insurgency campaign was not the greatest ever, but remember, the same guy (Nagual) made the island, campaign, and tons of objects for it. Â He did a ton of work, so I can't blame him for rushing the campaign a bit. Â I know one of the BAS Tonal-Tango patches fixed a bunch of campaign problems, so check ofp.info for them (I THINK it was patch #1). No... ebud (mostly) + selectthis did almost all of the objects. Haha, first time i come here in 6mths or so and i see this. Sorry to burst ya bubble there blackdog, but i did make an awful lot of objects, bridges, palms, houses, airport, rebels stuff, and fiddled with virtually every model in the island addon, had ta get off my ass and learn modelling to do so, so i think i remember. Ebud did make some models and texture most of them, and ST did help with some stuff, and dont forget evis with most of those little white houses. Maybe your getting confused with the opfor?

Hmm, the sticking point for me is not model theft, mp cheating ect, blah blah. It is that snake man and co decided they know better than everyone in regards to how every single addon should be managed. I can only speak for my own experience, and that is: This tool has removed some of my rights and freedoms, choices, as to how my project is managed. Snake man and co are so smart and i expect ego driven that they made that decision for me, i could even say they took something without permission. I dont need them to decide for me, i didnt ask them to, but they did, IMPOSING their will over something that i earned the right to manage. That just my experience. The "community" supports this, so essentially are saying "we will accept this intial act of taking without permission, but will police any further acts", lol, yeah right. Thats why i think trusting the community is a joke, whats next i wonder. And i would still like to know if they have any probs posting all their source code, i mean they are happy to give a free ticket to everyone elses source, so why not their own work i wonder? What a great answer that would be.

Ya know ya got me wondering bobcatt, if the WRPtool team would post all the source code of all their tools for download, and if not, why not? hehe
-
Hehe, my sentimonies exactly. I know from the tonal release that "permission" really means very little to peeps. And credit, lol, credit in the readme? the thing nobody reads?, lol. Anyhoo, in every one of these threads where peeps drop in to say "addon makers take it too serious" there is always an abundance of quite simply un-qualified remarks. If those very peeps went and spent 100hrs+ or even 1000hrs+ on an ofp project then they would qualify to say why some addon-makers might feel certain ways. It's so much easier to say "why care?" than spend eternity on a project and then involuntarily care as the addon makers "baby" enters the world. I imagine many makers "babies" will grow up to be whores these days (eg, everyones had a go at 'em). Anyhoo, i will keep making stuff for sure, as i enjoy it. Though i will not release anything anymore, not so some wanker with no respect can hack it all in 5 mins. Trusting the community, lol thats a good one

Yeah, im sure there was, though it really doesn't matter. It wasn't a big deal then and isn't a big deal now, i was simply using that as an example to illustrate a point, nothing more. And shinraiden, you are correct, there was/is plans to finish the tonal island/pack. I read this thread while taking a break from working on the buildings. But over time what was once a rich source of creative inspiration has become something cheap, so it will never be finished to the level of the original vision me thinks.

That's a very good point Pathy, often way overlooked... Ya know a funny thing about the "tonal object case", and prolly a little know fact, is that once upon a time when "the lost isle" was small and based on BIS objects only, we asked the nomad mod if their building objects could be used. I didn't ask directly, someone in BAS who knew CAT asked, the first response was positive but in the end there was no definitive answer. So in the end Tonal objects were developed, making way more stuff than we ever expected. Developing new content for the game was a much better option than holding any bitterness over objects or whining on forums. So did the lack of co-operation between two teams in this case stifle development? or was it counter-productive? Hehe, nup. In the end it was good for the End Users, something new. Just something to keep in mind in this discussion, that totally open source isn't always productive. just my 2 cents.

Lol, too predictable, i was waiting for your personal attacks. Funny, that i know for sure you didn't send me that reply, must of been someone else you dealt with. And your PM : "Dude, that was totally pathetic, dont slander me on the forums... Im honorable, and i wouldnt stoop to a level to that of which you speek. Infact that really fucking pissed me off, because as soon as i heard how childish you guys were being by putting a verbal hold on community released items, I immediatly stopped using them and asked permission. so dont fuck with me, im a good man... and you are a complete asshole." Well, it speaks voulmes about character, and the community in general.

That sounds like a very good idea hellfish, the excellent WRPTool would make it very possible. Also you might want to check out .PSO files in visitor. Basically, select a group of objects (like an entire town), then in one of the top menus "save object(s)". It saves your selection as a .PSO file, which you can later "load objects" on any point of the map (using the buldozer cursor as center point), perfectly replicating things. The only limit ive seen is only being able to load the PSO in the project file/map it was created in, but there is prolly work arounds.

Then no one has a need to cooperate if they don't. Is that right? How are they different? Sure they make good stuff, there are plenty of others who do. As far as being refused to use Tonal vegetation there is no legal right behind it. It's a matter of integrity and decency. If you are decent enough to ask that's a good thing. Legally there is no right to refusal. It's a matter of respect but I can't quite understand anyone refusing the use of trees?!? If so why release such good addons? It should be open to the community. I can say if anyone wants to use our stuff in their mods go ahead. I'll even send the unbinned models if you are a reputable working and producing mod. If we can save some work for others then good. uhh, dont really feel like biting today, not here, but a nibble; Drow, i cant really remember, were you from the team that ? *Said we took too long to decide, so they said they will use them anway... or *had a team member email the same day as the "mod leader" saying "the leader doesnt respect your work or wishes and is already using the stuff..." or *sent viruses as a way saying "thanks for the addon" or *the person who wanted to put a FEW plants in an addon with the same FILENAME as tonal and release it.... To be honest, something that amuses me, is i reckon i have thought about the plant/veg stuff the LEAST, especially after reading this thread. It didnt take long for me to forget about that funny thing, something about the way real life can be at times all consuming. But, the few times i have thought about in the past 2-3 months, i have come here to post a "free for all" on the bloody objects (unfinshed objects btw, lol), but every time (about 3) i only had to read a couple of threads to see the anger and plain bitchin still running all over this forum. It only took no time, each time, for me to forget all about it. Anyway, dinger, lol, keep up those long posts, pretty good reads.

And rpgs , Ak's ect, even here in oz. The aussie police don't mind being the ones to start the riot either ;) Heres a funny pic that might help with ideas : Cant be good Sounds like a good addon, looking forward to it Â

Just checked it out on tonal, no map lag at all, amazing to say the least. Thanks BIS ;)

Cool, best news i've heard all week.

mmm, faith, sounds great, as long as it isn't blind. Each to his own as they say...

Yeah religions tend to be whacky, but are usually intertwined with metaphysics. Every metaphysics path ive ever looked into has deliberate, inbuilt and ingenious "contradictions" designed to make their students stretch or break their current way of thinking, and keep outsiders out, which they do exceptionally well at. The outsiders will use the contradiction to prop up their current worldview (usually "that religion sucks') and eventually leave it alone in their smug-ness. Acecombat dude, theres no use getting worked up about any of this, peeps will believe what they want, which is fair enough. Keep in mind the only true knowledge comes from direct experience, actual real perception, and i very much doubt all this angel stuff is coming from such a source, and sounds like a weave of book-smarts (eg, the thing that huffs and puffs and pretends to be true knowledge).

lol, Here's a pic of a beautiful old-school superbike im picking up in a few weeks. Gonna be alot of fun: Slingshot

Thanks for the report m21man. Tim Pink im not sure of a exact link for the patch, but most likey will be one at the Avonlady's FAQ. The only news about these addons atm is that there is no news. With pc probs, real life and the start of summer ive done very little/nothing on it for a long time.

Very nice pics toadlife, and very nice sky avon. It inspired me to stop and take a pic this evening: City of Melbourne

Nice thread, its always interesting to see things like this. Here's my piece, to add to the variety here. Im mid twenties, in australia, and basically just an uneducated biker. My main aim in life is to ride, rain hail or shine. Im only really happy and thinking clear when about to ride, riding or just finished riding. I usually work odd jobs which i tend to hate, and always seem to be on the verge of studying further but never quite get there. A long streak of amazing bad luck, road rage, speeding and cops left me one day without a bike but with a modern computer, which led to flashpoint one day a few years ago. One of my favourite things in the world is to head out on the road with my wife on the back early on a sunny day (before the idiotic car drivers wake up) with no destination in mind, and just ride all day. Even if we were millionaires, my girl and i would just ride all day, around the world if we could, staying at a new town each night. "...no name, no honor, no family, no country, only life to be lived..."

Very nice units and weapons guys, lots of fun. I especially like the wounding effects, makes for some interesting moments. I put together a quick little mission for the russian soldiers, just something basic: Russian Raid

Just briefly, The island won't be split, for countless reasons. There is the possibility of a new large island being added to the pack that is not so resource hungry. The campaign will be updated with the next version of the addons, it was going to be part of the patch, but didnt make it. It should be roughly 15 missions long with the next version. Edit The trash texture/object above will most likely be fixable.
-
Acecombat, im pretty sure everyone would need to be patched to avoid any conflicts in MP. And if anyone has fixed any of the files themselves earlier, and now getting errors, i would recommend patching the original files. The 1.0 files were uncompressed pbos, if a quick fix file was made with compression using something like makepbo, its possible the patch doesnt read them properly.
-
I just placed a bmp, previewed, no error, strange huh? I have none of those errors, as far as i know no one in bas has those errors. Did you actually test the patch before assuming the addon dependancies were not fixed Lt Damage, or were you just waiting to stick in any possible barb (for whatever reason)? Btw, we dont have the server space or bandwidth to upload and release the large files with every patch atm, and have no other means to patch the files aside from the way it was done, there is nothing we can do about it.

The AAE version will also mean the internal file structure / object paths will be finalized, a major reason for holding back on object permissions so far.

It remained a closed beta. I havent touched the patch in at least a week or so, but thinking of getting the last hour of work done on it today.
