white grass and red screen edge
Marc15yo replied to sic-disaster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
do you have ati? If you do then the red box around the edges of the screen is because of forced AA. make sure anti-aliasing in CCC is set to use application settings. :) worked for me hope this helps. -
idk if this is the right place to say this, but i just wanted to say thank you guys for this wonderful mod. I played through the campaign so far right up to the part where armstrong joins the militia, no bugs and thanks to the new beta patch runs smooth. And it just brings back so many memories. It's incredible. I haven't had this much fun since, I've never had this much fun lol. But thanks guys. Long live CWC

Hi about 1 week or 1 week and half ago i received my new ATI HD 5870 1gb graphics card. I bought this card in the hopes to mainly improve my fps in Arma 2 and other games. I previously had a 4870 512mb. It's not the first upgrade that this game has persuaded me in getting. I bought this card because it was supposed to be be twice and half times faster than my 4870. When i installed it the first thing i did was boot up fraps and arma 2. I was hoping to see some huge fps change if not reasonable especially in places where my fps was terrible. I gained little to no FPS gain at all playing this game. The only thing that has changed is the texture clarity of course now that i can set them higher thanks to my 1gb of vid ram. For all fellow 5870 users how much fps are you getting in the main menu of OA usually on avg. You know the scene in the empty desert and the huey flies overhead. well What fps are you getting? I max out everything except for pp on normal, and HDR to normal view distance 1600-2000m and resolution 1920x1080P and during that cutscene i get very low (relatively) fps i mean im getting 39's-45's but something i noticed happens. It seems at always always the exact certain time my fps will suddenly drop to about 25 fps although its the same scene and nothing has changed other than slow camera movements. This has frustrated me for some time. It would go from 70's 80's and then suddenly drop to 50's 40's for no apparent reason. Same scene same graphics setting and exactly the same point the camera reaches.it happens in a few camera angles in the cutscene and i can point it out using fraps below: Normal/reasonable FPS - http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-19-09-60.jpg Crap/wtf FPS - http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-19-12-03.jpg another example: Normal/reasonable FPS - http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-18-24-67.jpg Crap/wtf FPS - http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-18-30-18.jpg As you can see it's the same exact scene. But that exact turn of the camera somehow at that time the fps will drop spontaneously its almost instant and then it will get stuck there until the camera changes shots. (blacks out etc). Sometimes the fps is even in the high 30's. Another thing that really really bugs me is the following scene. It has bugged me since my 4870 days. The scene is when you are nearing Elektrozvodsk no matter what it is it's always that spot that i've used for reference. You can try it when you play the "counter-attack" mission in single player. (Arma 2 or combined ops). To make sure that there was no AI/CPU influencing the test i loaded myself alone standing there in the editor. Here is the spot i'm taling about- http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-21-24-54.jpg Now here is the FPS i get on the outskirts of town- http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-21-50-54.jpg As you can see this is absolutely miserable fps. Turning off AA does not help, turning off PP either. Lowering the vegetation to normal gains 1fps, to very low 3-4 fps. The only thing that has dramatically gained fps was to set objects to low and it wasn't even dramatic it was more like "playable". It went from 20 to 29-31 at best. It drives me insane. Why am i dealing with such low fps? lowering everything to the lowest possible graphic settings and view distance to 500 made it run @ 50fps during that scene - http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-23-38-33.jpg This is what i get playing COD blackops maxed out at 1080P 4x AA not even in fact i get around 80's 90's 100's in blackops usually. I feel as though i am not getting the performance i should be getting from my card. could it be defective? Or is this game just truly hating me? I can't afford any more upgrades ive spent too much money on these high end parts when really the only game i play or enjoy is arma 2. I've been playing BI games since the old OFP days  Also here is a detailed look at my PC spec: ATI HD 5870 sapphire vaporx 1gb (upgraded from an old 4870 512mb) latest 10.12 drivers (tried earlier drivers no difference) clean install windows 7 64 bit 8 gigs G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1333mhz (originally had 2 gigs g-skill upgrade did nothing) Samsung spinpoint f3 500gb hard drive (7200rpm) Asrock mobo (too lazy to go back and check the box lol) AMD Phenom II x4 945 deneb 3.0ghz,6mb etc 700watt cougar psu (originally had 650 watt ocz thought it could be the culprit so i upgraded to higher brand) As you can see this has caused me a lot of frustration and ive almost lost my cool. If you need any more info i'll be glad to give it to you. Also this can be used as a comparison test in performance for other 5870 users just to see if im getting the framerates i should be or not. Thanks for your help

Low Fps new card (5870) plz help
Marc15yo replied to Marc15yo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thankyou for the input friend. I guess my best bet is to start saving for another CPU although this may take a very long time :/ but is the cpu rly causing the low fps drop on the empty map near that town? http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2...3-21-50-54.jpg How much does the cpu effect performance when simply rendering the towns because even when paused the fps is still the same. And how would a phenom II x6 do in arma 2? I haven't seen any phenom II x6 users on the forum share their experience. As you can see i have an AM3 motherboard so my options are limited to an amd cpu. If i was rich however i would invest in some super cpu like an I7 :p but of course im not lol -
I see you own an ATI card, have you tried accessing CCC and looking at the 3d Mimmap settings? Make sure it's set to quality not performance as lowering the bar forces the card to load low resolution textures. If it didn't help im beat bruh :butbut: I guess you should try the "default" graphics settings and see if that helps. Good luck to you

Marc15yo replied to Marc15yo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Are you playing this game at 20-30 fps ? Of course not, if you were you'd want to find out what the culprit was. So this is your conclusion? that i'm too compulsive to stop looking at my fps or that Sapphire just sucks? (which btw is a fairly biased statement) Okay then, i guess according to you it's wrong to not accept to play this game at low 20's after considerable upgrades. And of course since you are "handling arma 2/OA without any problems" you must understand (sarcasm) the struggle and frustration for other people that are trying to get better frame rates? The reason you don't look at your FPS is because your fps is probably not something that would need investigating into. Your not the one getting mediocre gameplay is all i'm saying my friend. All i'm asking is for help on increasing enjoyment for the game giving me 5-10fps will make me very happy is all. I still can't play the campaign. It's not a crime is it to ask for help? If there is absolutely nothing that can be done i understand perfectly and i'll desist any additions to this thread so it may die and be done with. However it's really hard for me to accept 22 frames per second is the best i can push out of my system when looking at a town. I just want some people to help me look further into this. -

Marc15yo replied to Marc15yo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
going from normal PP to disabled has no impact on fps what so ever. I usually have it disabled anyways i can't stand the blur :/ usually the settings i play at are as follows: textures: very high (very high to high has almost no impact on performance) video memeory: default AA: low (disabling it barely helps 1-2fps) AF: high - literally, this is the only option in that game that has absolutely no impact on performance no matter what i do ;0 terrain: low objects: normal - i prefer high usually but normal gains me 3fps and i need all i can get shadows: high pp: normal or disabled - has no impact on performance but looks better disabled imo VD: 1600 on ground 3000 in heli 4000 in aircraft even with these medium low settings that i normally play on i still get low 20's in that same scene it's very frustrating. I would be perfectly okay if the game was always stuck at 30fps but i mean it's not. It goes from 20's to 50's to 70's back to 20's. I get really low fps just looking at towns on those settings. It's very frustrating. How can it be my cpu? @ojejku yeah it's true i've been hearing the same excuse, i mean try explaining that with no ai, paused 500m vd etc medium low graphics settings. with one player on the map. Looking away at the town i get 40-50fps looking at the town i get 20's. looking at the ground i get 120fps How can my cpu be bottlenecking it? :j: tbh it's sort of naive and ignorant to say that this game relies only on the cpu especially when simply rendering a town with nothing else going on. It's a 5870 people not trying to be arrogant but it's sort of ridiculous. i should be able to play this game on normal at least with minimum of 30fps or 25fps but im not :/ not even on low. I'm getting 20's 21's sometimes even 18's and those are not just drops those are sustained fps looking at a town tbh the campaign is still impossible to play especially the mission when we attack that big town i believe it's chernagorsk. And in OA the airfield mission im getting medium 20's. Arrowhead was playable at least i managed to beat it. I also beat arma 2 although i had to use a few cheat codes and tricks to skip some missions  Anyways i really do appreciate people helping me on this and im glad to see im not alone either. I just want this game to run reasonably smooth, im tired of playing at the 20's. I want to enjoy this game its the only game i can play. Any tweaks i can do to the game or my pc. ;0 and btw RAmdisks do work, i had 4gigs of the game on a 4gb ram disk once :p it was all my OA and Arma 2 buildings, rocks vegetation, roads and misc inside the ramdisk and this greatly improved lod switching and smoother movement when loading lods. But of course performance was still miserable  @Nikiforos The 5870 is a very good card i'll admit it handles pretty well in all other games. :p of course not arma 2 lol which is the only game i rly play. Although im not sure how the GTX 275 compares to the 5870 so im not sure if it's worth the upgrade. probably nor for arma 2 at least -

Marc15yo replied to Marc15yo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I think you guys misread me on the COD part  I was in no way comparing call of duty to Arma 2. That's just impossible considering arma 2's intense cpu claculations that are running 24/7. i've known this since the game came out. I've know this since Arma 1 and OFP. I was pointing out that the fps on lowest possible settting and 500m VD was 50fps while standing near that spot with no AI nothing going on in the map: http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2...3-23-38-33.jpg And i used COD as a reference because the fps i get not doing anything in arma 2 in that scene at lowest setting is lower or the equivalent of what i would get on blackops under full load. That' all i was saying. I was simply trying to figure out if it was a GPU issue. When i set the graphics to all normal AA off PP disabled in that spot i still get 22 fps it gets a little better when i actually walk into town (around 28-29fps) but this is jut me, with nothing else. minimal cpu influence because im the only one on the map and im not moving. I just want to know if this is normal. True on that, but that still does not explain the empty desert 70's fps going to 40's/50's if it was always at 40's 50's i would be perfectly fine i wouldnt question it, but why does it drop from 70's to 40's for no apparent reason? Also a good way to see how the cpu calculations are affecting your fps in game is to pause and look at the fps. Usually when you pause in most missions you should gain 10-20 or sometimes 30fps depending on the mission scale. This lets you know that the cpu was setting you back and not the gpu. But in that specific spot: http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-21-24-54.jpg why am i just getting 22 fps? http://www.picdrop.net/uploads/arma2OA%202011-01-20%2003-21-50-54.jpg My phenom II x4 945 3.0ghz can be a hiccup but i mean oc it to 3.3 ghz made no difference. And that's the max overclock i can get without tweaking the voltages which btw i don't touch because in the past i've had bad experiences in doing so. Why would my cpu be a bottleneck with no AI on the map :j: -

Marc15yo replied to Marc15yo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
your right the 39's - 45's is great fps but it's just in an empty desert ;) that's my main problem. When on chernarus however it's a differnet story of course im talking high low 20's -30's sometimes 40's which i guess is good. i come from the days when my pc couldn't handle ofp ;p so my acceptable framerate threshold is very high. I just want to make sure im getting what i payed for you know? I mean the part where i was getting 20's near elektrovodsk i mean was the exact same low fps i had with my 4870 except it was in the 18's and changing the gfx settings to medium just didn't help my case ;0 i bougght all these upgrades for a reason. i wouldn't have bought them if the game would run the same If the game would run at all times 30fps i would be the happiest man but it doesn't. nearing towns especially on the outskirts of towns the fps will drop to 20's .Ik this is the game nearly maxed out but c'mon :0 i mean 20's? 18's sometimes? I just want to make sure it's not defective btw i don't play the game at those settings, i play usually very high textures, high objects, normal terrain, low aa, pp disabled, shadows high, anisoptric high, vd 2600. And still my fps will be somewhat low not gonna lie :j: i really was expecting more out of a 5870 otherwise i wouldn't have bought it. -
Hey guys. First off i hope this doesn't sound like spam or ads because my biggest fear is to get banned from the bi forums. So mods, if you think this goes against the off topic rules please just close my thread or something. Okay basically my friend and I created this website called www.picdrop.net its the first ever (that we know of) drag and drop image hosting site The cool part is you don't even need to register to upload. You just come by drag and drop your pictures (addons, mods, idk) into the box and it uploads them. And it basically remembers who you are (via cookies) so next time you come in your images are there. Except your images will get lost (not deleted) if you delete your cookies. But this only applies if your a guest if you register (free) it stores the images in your album. Also it automatically makes the html url and forum codes when you click on the image Were still working on it so there are probably some bugs, no viruses or ads, no captcha because if you can upload an image through drag and drop your probably human lol. So yeah i thought i'd bring it up because a lot of the people in the community (including me) upload images to the internet daily this would just make it a hell of a lot easier on everyone. Basically as long as its not pornographic or obscene or w.e. you can upload it and its easy to remember too: www.picdrop.net http://www.picdrop.net/FAQ/how_to_upload.html there's alot of features that we'll add too so stay tuned. (things like image editing, resizing. more managing of images and albums...) I know resizing is a huge thing for the bi forums cuz of the 100kb limit. So this feature should be appearing soon. And if its not too much it would be great to get your feedback. This is our/my first site btw. oh and one more thing it only works with firefox and chrome at the moment. IE explorer is being stubborn. Oh and you need javascript enabled in your browser
-
Yeah we fixed that, it was very sloppy. ;)
-
 @jayeasy Yeah we did a complete overhaul overnight on monday or tuesday. So yeah the site looks much much better and "proffessional" along with the album page. Were also going to improve on that soon with a friend of ours who's gonna teach us new tricks like creating your own albums and more management of photos @Hans Ludwig Taken into account
-
Thanks yeah we are constantly working on the album page. Just a little update guys: me and my friend finally finished the new version of the album page. It took longer than anticipated but now it's up and running. You can now delete and just have a better "view" of your photos. Next up is the modify feature. This will take even longer but in the end it should be superb. Where gonna add image resize, basic image editing functions like cropping, effects, text... But this will take some time since this is completely new to us. But that's our next objective for this week and the next. Facebook login is still on hold as there are some problems (privacy related) with the facebook login API when integrated with our database. It leaves it to vulnerable for attacks and for people to access other people's photos. So until we can get around that the facebook API won't be included. Another thing were working on is making the user registration much more simple. Once we get the modify page up and running registration would be, more user friendly. In the mean time those that don't want to register can still not register if they want to. But we will be putting more strict limits on guest users because we don't want them to take advantage of our bandwidth too much. (Spam) :j: And thank you for your continued support everyone, every suggestion you make we take into account.
-
Whoa guys thanks for the supportive comments :p Well so far nothing. We are applying for google adsense but really our own money has gone into it. We see it as an investment. If picdrop can get big we can have ads on our page but not the annoying kind with popups and those that play videos and stuff. Just like 1-3 ads really. Right now were just trying to get traffic and waiting for people to "switch over" lol Good idea, we had a site in the works called ratethispic.net (as you can see still in the works) we managed to integrate facebook login into the site so people dont have to register. Now that we know how we might just add it to picdrop Taken note. We are working on making it look 'sexy' but so far its been hard. So right now were working first hand to make the site "simpler" as you guys have said. suggestions on how would be much appreciated Thanks the logo was made by our friend kurt he's the genius behind it. We found it appealing at the moment but if you guys strongly believe it needs improvement will work on it, but for now its gonna be low priority. EDIT: About the 100kb image size, yeah were gonna see if we can get an image resize function available in the "my album" page for those who are logged in. Maybe similar to photobucket where you can decrease the image size via percentage or something. And yes about the delete function, the my album page is still very much in the works so yeah the delete button and option hasnt been added yet. It should be by tomorrow if not in a few days

hey guys, i've been working on reskinning the Armed Assault 2 Vehicles into Desert Tan so that whenever someone releases a desert themed map they'll have units to go with it. I have to also note that the M1A1 Textures do not belong to me. They are from here : http://www.armedassault.info/ftp/pics/addons/title_desert_vehicles1.1.jpg So the Credit Goes to them. Of Course i can't release until i get the official permission so if someone could help me contact these guys it would be great. if i get their permissions i will release Currently Finished USMC Vehicles: M1A1 M1A2 Tusk (basically the same Textures as M1A1 except for Tusk Kit) AAVP7A1 (needs a small tweak) LAV-25 M270 LAV HQ All Humvee Varients Coming up: MVTR or w.e that vehicle's name was.. What I need to Complete the Addon: I am an absolute noob when it comes to scripting and coding (or maybe i'm just to lazy to try and find out how). So if anyone out there that can make my addons standalone without the need of using that annoying texture reskin script in the unit init parameters, please help me out. Also Please Tell me what you think here are Some pics: M1A2 Tusk: AAVP7A1: LAV-25: M1A1: M270: More Pics (unclassified): http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy69/marc15yo3/ArmA22009-07-2600-38-30-42.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy69/marc15yo3/ArmA22009-07-2600-38-38-25.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy69/marc15yo3/ArmA22009-07-2521-59-46-07.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy69/marc15yo3/ArmA22009-07-2522-02-43-46.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy69/marc15yo3/ArmA22009-07-2612-04-48-65.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy69/marc15yo3/ArmA22009-07-2612-06-04-24.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy69/marc15yo3/ArmA22009-07-2612-06-31-65.jpg

Yeah i know, but everytime the game would load certain a lods, or textures, my fps would go from 40's all the way down to 8-10 fps and then backup. Without these drops, the avg (mean) fps went up a few in the benchmark. But the most important effect is that the stutters had ceased, no more hiccups or drops whenever a lods or textures were loaded. We all know arma 2 is hard drive hungry, but when the game seems to access the page file the overall performance stutters and then goes back to normal. I'm not suggesting that fps is related at all to the HD i'm saying the hiccups are. When the hiccups occur FPS goes down to 0-10 as it loads w.e. its looking for in the page file. So switching the page file to another hard drive seemed to do the trick ;) for me at least, unless everybody else problem is related to gfx card and cpu rendering low frame rates.... but it doesn't appear to be so from what most of the guys have been describing on this thread.
-
OMFG!!!! WAIT I FIGURED IT OUT!!!! i just gained like 5-10 FPS and absolutely no irregular drops or stutters in fps!!! okay this might not work, but it worked for me. Remember how i said the problem was gone after switching from my samsung spinpoint f3 windows installation to my maxtor windows installation? Well, i was completely wrong :j: after i defragmented my maxtor the problem seemed to come back. Now the problem is not with the hard drives or fragmentation. Then i booted up, task manager, performance, resource monitor. And i ignored the cpu for a second and looked at the memory part. Where it displays the Hard Faults per second i realized that arma 2 had a pretty high number. So i went online found out that hard faul'ts is basically the amount of times a program will read/write or access the page file system in windows. I realized why would arma 2 be doing that so much? it was like 55 at one point :O now i dont know if thats neccessarily the problem but heres what this discovery encouraged me to do... I went to my computer, system properties, advenced system settings, performance section, settings, advanced, page file section, change What i did is made windows not use any page file system on this drive local disk C (my maxtor) and made it instead do 4096MB of page file on my Disk D which (my samsung). Of course windows told me there was already a page file on this drive (because i have have windows 7 installed on my samsung too) and i told windows to overwrite. Then i booted to my samsung OS and did the exact same thing and vice versa. (removed the pagefile on C and made windows use D for my new page file of 4096MB) When i booted arma 2 on my samsung behold, 53FPS on default settings, turned the settings up to high view distance to 2000m, 48 FPS !!! Hope this helped, i know i'm not very good at explaining myself when i'm excited so if you guys need me to give out a more organized and detailed instructions i'll rewrite it and upload some pics too. :bounce3: Anyways yeah no stutters at all, the lod trashing is almost instant, i mean it still switches lods but dosn't lnger or drop my fps while doing so. Its amazing :p

Game looks like it's on low regardless of settings
Marc15yo replied to Flaringo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
that sounds like CCC. Open up catalyst control center and check what the 3d settings are for the Mipmap. Setting the bar to performance will lower the overall resolution of textures every textures, but setting it closer to quality will display the textures as they are meant to be or as the game settings are set. EDIT: if that didn't work do you have ATI tray tools? sometimes ati tray tools interferes with arma 2 as well -
My friend has 2 spinpoints in raid 0, same cpu, close to same asrock mobo (mine is a newer one) a worse card than mine (he has nvidia i have ati) but his performance is abnormally good. So yes, two spinpoints in raid is got to be awesome. I'm getting 2 more spin points one 500 gig to combine with my current for raid 0 and another one 1TB that i will put in raid 1 for backup.
-
@ stk2008 thats not bad, thats pretty much just what i have. Mine is 45 fps but my settings are different View Distance 2000 m AA disabled Textures High Video memory High Objects high PP high Anisoptric high Shadows high Terrain normal resolution: 1280x720 3d resolution: 1280x900 (125% to make up for the disabled AA) well guys i think i might have figured it out. It might actually really be the hard drive/ os running OA Combined Ops on my samsung spinpoint f3 i got 38-39 fps benchmark 1 with serious stutters. (sudden drop in fps from 30-40 range down to 8-15 range when loading objects) running OA Combined Ops on my maxtor (old installation) i got 41 fps and no stutters :butbut: This means its gotta be the install.. the funny thing is i JUST installed and formatted windows 7 yesterday. Since i've already settled in this new install i'm not going to format, i'm simply going to try to run arma 2 from my maxtor instead of my spinpoint. So yeah, try formatting again. Its definetely hard drive-OS related.
-
Okay here are my official benchmark results and settings: OA Combined Ops E08Benchmark - 45 FPS (:D very happy with this one) OA Combined Ops Arma 2 benchmark 1 - 38 FPS (better than 33 lol) Arma 2 Vanilla 1.07 benchmark 1 - 39 FPS (i had it at 43 earlier today :/ ) The difference between the vanilla and combined ops is actually HUGE. Not really in fps but mostly in the stutters. In vanilla the lowest fps is approximately 27-28, when running the same benchmark, same settings in OA Combined ops i get these 1-2 second stutters everytime something loads and its pain in the ass, and fps goes doen to 8-15 Fps then backup again. Everytime a lod or texture loads it goes down. This only occurs with OA. Arma 2: 1.07 Operation Arrowhead Combined Ops: 1.54 for me I actually Defragged about an hour ago, using both defraggler and windows defrag tool. I've also heard of reformatting giving great results, but i JUST reformatted yesterday :/ when i installed a new copy of windows. You know what, i have an interesting experiment i have another copy of windows 7 on my maxtor 250gig the one i used on my previous build, i'm gonna check out the performance in Arma 2 since arma 2 is already installed. If its the same then the problem is not with hard drives or formatting, if it's better than i guess its time to format or buy a new hard drive, (its gonna be costly lol)
-
@ HAWK same, yeah texture/lod popping was all normal, just my fps is rly abnormally low. I'm gonna do some more benchmarking to make it official
-
Okay, i can confirm its not FRAPS. ATi tray tools displays exact same results, and visually OA CO is unbearable. Vanilla A2 is better by 3-4 fps. but still much lower than when my cpu was stable. EDIT: Most of us are on a tight budget so we cant really spend that much cash on parts like this

hmm, okay, i'll download the ati-tray tools (i used to have it but it always seemed to match frame rates exacty the same as fraps when i ran them together) gonna come back with the results

Hey guys, i can confirm this problem.:( i have the exact same problem he does. I can prove that its not his HD. My Old Specs: ATI 4870 Palit dual sonic edition (512M) Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66ghz OC to 3.10 Antec 650 watt blue PSU Maxtor 7200RPM 250GB 4GB DDR2 667mhz OC to 800mhz MSI 975X platinum motherboard Old spec graphic settings: Textures: normal Video memory: normal anisoptric: normal shadows: high AA: disabled terrain: normal objects: normal PP: high View Distance: 2000m Benchmark 01: 30-32 FPS and 34-35 when i'm lucky turning the shadows to normal gave me 38FPS in benchmark then i decided to build a new pc because my friend had a phenom II x4 and he tried the opeation arrowhead demo and managed to get high 40's on very high gfx settings. He had some nvidia card but it was worse card than mine (we both confirmed that) So then i built this rig: MSI 970GX-G65 (AM3 + Am2) mobo 2x1GB Gigabytes G-Skill DDR3 memory 1333mhz Same Card (Palit 4870 512M) AMD phenom II x4 945 3ghz (my first quad core) Same PSU (650 watt) New HD same as H.A.W.K (Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB real fast) I had some serious problems with this build. Not performance wise but my temps were off the charts, and my voltages were fucked up, after weeks of searching for the culprit i found it was my motherboard was faulty sending in excess voltage to my cpu. But when i did manage to boot those few times (even with high temps) i booted up my fav game of course on the new spinpoint and new windows 7 install THE GAME WAS SIMPLY AMAZING!!! i got 45fps in OA benchmark silky smooth frames in a bunch of missions AND THIS WAS UNDERCLOCKED (cuz if i went over 2.8ghz it wouldn't boot) eventually the high temps fried my new 150$ cpu, luckily newegg sent me a new one after an RMA. So i also bought a new motherboard ASRock 785GXH. Nothing else changed except for the motherboard. I boot into windows, run arma 2 benchmark, and my avg fps was in the low 30's just like my old previous build  i couldn't believe it. Arma 2 ran smooth on an unstable overheating build but not on a stable build :/ OC made no difference, doing a fresh windows install made no difference. Shortcut commands dont seem to make a difference. Yes all my 4 of CPU cores are under load. temps are in the 45-50C under load stock cooler. I never run programs in the background, except for fraps for fps check. I also used game booster to no avail and arma 2 does not exceed the more than 600-800MB range while playing missions. And it just couldn't be my 2 gigs of ram since it ran fine with the unstable build. I always defrag, in fact i just defragged again and no change. The only thing i've noticed is running arma 2 regular gives me much smoother frame rates, benchmark goes to the late 30's low 40's i even managed to push 42 FPS once in a benchmark. But with arrowhead its a different story. I'm just wondering, what has changed in my pc for it to be acting this way, it should be running it at 45fps like it did with my unstable build. Lastly i've noticed something hugely different with arrowhead. Arrowhead runs smooth right, then out of nowhere DROP in fps. it goes from like 30's-40's in the hike in the hills mission and then DROPs randomly to like 8-15FPs for a few seconds. I've noticed this usually occurs with the loading of lods. Arma 2 vanilla however doesn't do that. And at one point i even thought something broke. Its as if the game "breaks itself" i play for more than 30 seconds (i know poorly described). Like i start to play the campaign (razor two mission) it goes from 30-40FPS when in the venom on the way to meet the commander and then i hear my parts inside my pc almost seem to slowly power down and fps drops to the 20-30 range. As if something broke. the only way to fix it is to reboot my pc.. this only occurs in arrowhead CO not arma 2 Arma 2 Patch 1.07 OA 1.54 It's such a mystery, its almost as if someone doesn't want me to enjoy this game :j: EDIT: forgot to say that both the unstable and stable versions of my new rig i changed the textures to High and dind't gain or lose any fps and it was clocked at 45FPS with the unstable underclocked build but 32-38FPS with the stable build. nothing else changed.
