    Yes, I certainly agree the order of priority is correct, weapon resting definitely comes in at number one. I remember back in the Op. Flashpoint days, before resistance, kneeling in front of a rock and wishing I could rest my LMG on it correctly.

    I understand that, along with the fact that it is very complicated. It would seem to be that you would have to commit a lot of resources for a very marginal benefit, beyond people saying "that's cool" and getting back to playing. However, one of the major aspects I see missing from vehicles is the ability to shoot out of the windows, or windscreen. One solution, which seems relatively simple to me, is to provide an additional action that would allow the player to shoot out of the window, essentially putting them in another gun position in the vehicle but using their personal weapon. I would think that would be a much simpler approach to introducing this feature as opposed to committing to providing full free roam movement within vehicles. I hope that makes sense.

    Why do you have to go to the extent of free roam or free fire? Surely you could take a smaller chunk and implement something that would allow certain vehicle positions to utilize their weapons (primary or secondary) within certain useful and realistic limits. For example, if you have a person riding shotgun they could have an additional menu option (say "Window cover") which would setup the player with their weapon aiming out of the window, providing limited range of movement based on realistic positioning with regards to the seating position. Certainly I don't understand the difficulties involved with this from a programming point of view but it would seem to be a good compromise without requiring full free roam in vehicles, which personally I don't think would add a lot where as providing a simple option to at least have some ability to fire from vehicles would. Just an idea, I imagine it's something you've already chucked around the studio anyway.

    Seems like a decent addon but isn't Porto kind of small, maybe I didn't read enough, but I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of Nogova from the resistance campaign as opposed to a 3km2 island with a town on it ... and it also seems a bit cheap calling United Sahrani a 'new' island, not that those two islands aren't cool in their own right though.

    7950 GT vs 8600GTS

    The 8800GTS and 8600GT are two very different cards. If it's a case of 7950GT vs 8600GT then the 7950GT wins. If it's a case of 7950GT vs 8800GTS 320MB/640MB then the 8800GTS wins, it's a no brainer.

    8800 will pretty much blow your 8600GT out of the water, just make sure you have the latest drivers for it. The drivers before two releases ago were abysmal and pretty much halted my playing, after that though it's been running great. Obviously this won't be the case if you haven't defragged recently, have spyware, malware or viruses on your system but i'm taking it for granted this isn't the case ...

    I'm running arma on an 8800gts 320mb at the same resolution you are with everything at the highest, except AA which is high. Here are my specs: 2.0GHZ AMD Opteron 146 Jetway NForce4 939 mobo 2GB Kingston value RAM 8800gts 320MB 100MB SATA HDD I am on my laptop now but will check later to see which nvidia drivers i am running, I am almost positive they are the latest ones. It runs very, very smoothly 100% of the time. I was running at 1680x1050 but was having issues with the vegetation so dropped the resolution to 1280x1024 and everything is now real smooth. For a start you need to make sure you are running all of the latest drivers for your hardware. Then you need to make sure you do not have any spyware, malware or viruses present on your system. Then do a defrag. If you don't know how to do any of this post here, i'm sure we can help. Once you have all of this done and if the problems persist post also.

    That is some awesome customer service right there, they basically called you a total idiot. I for one won't ever use them because of that. I actually bought a download copy from them, downloaded twice as it was corrupt the first time and then had a problem with the install. Their customer service never answered my emails until a week later when I asked for a refund, funnily enough I received an email confirming the refund within 12 hours and the money was refunded on my credit card within two days. I find it very ironic that they had such an efficient refund process yet their 'sales' service is woefully inadequate.

    I find it more likely that your laptop, specifically the OS and it's somewhat poor driver support, to be the issue. You might want to make sure you have the most current video card drivers. I have had experience with a laptop running Vista and there are many issues that need to be ironed out, especially with that specific video card and Nvidia's drivers.

    I used to have the map pause problem. I discovered, though, that I was forcing AA and AF through the video drivers. I set AA and AF to be application controlled for ArmA and now the map loads almost instantaneously. I'm running an Nvidia card so don't know if this will help those with ATI.

    Hi I'm quite sure ArmA does not use the pagefile, it is the operating system that uses pagefiles. You could try to adjust your Windows settings to try and make it behave more like a Linux-kernel based operating system. On a Linux-based system I am using, 768 MB of RAM can be almost totally used up and no pagefile is used (until it is absolutely necessary). I did some programming the other day which included monitoring memory usage: amount of free RAM went down to about 15 MB and no pagefile was used. I recall there are some optimizations for Windows XP to try and force it to not use pagefile for kernel (core of an operating system) at least. I've forgotten about the details of such settings so you need to look them up from a Windows tuning website like tweakxp.com and see if you can get a difference. BR, Baddo. No it may not use your pagefile but its looking at it too decide how much memory to allocate to the Nonlocal VRAM numbers.(as I said find the thread my findings are there, Im sorry Im too lazy to link it) Also I can produce logs from pretty much every time I have played ArmA(I use Everest Ult. Edit. 24/7 as my System Monitor) and can show you its never used more than 21% of my Memory. I think the optimization your are talking about fo XP is Disable Paging Executive. So we can use the -maxmem x command on startup to specify the maximum amount of memory available to ArmA. By default ArmA is restricted to using a certain amount of system memory, somewhere around 300/400MB (or around 20% of 2GB ... ). Start ArmA with the command -maxmem 768 and let us know your system memory usage now.

    I can tell you that ArmA uses more physical RAM with a higher -maxmem number. Whether this actually has any performance benefits I have no proof, it does result in less hard disk access.

  24. I want to create a holding pattern for a cas aircraft using waypoints. For example: I want waypoint 1 to be 2 miles North of waypoint 0. I need some help altering the [x,y,z] variables of the poisition to be able to create the next waypoints in the correct places and not have to use markers or hard coded positions. Thanks .
