Tiberian Genesis Mod
Myst9999 replied to Sen†ry ˛°°ł's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
How do you plan on doing Visceroids? If indeed you are doing them. Plus, what about the music, the most defining part of CnC? What are you plans on implementing it at this stage? -
He's leaving? Moving to pastures new, or just changing job titles?

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?
Myst9999 replied to evilnate's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Amazingly, almost 2 years ago, thats all I thought it would be. I might end up buying it, perhaps in a year or 2. I can't justify paying Å40 for a game that, ignoring gfx and dodgy handling, has hardly changed one iota. Perhaps by then there will be enough mod's and addons worthy enough. I'll wait for the demo to make my judgement concrete, however. -
OT, but why are you quoting me? I didn't even say that.
-
Ah, I found what you referenced to. Well, the games out in 2 regions already, I would think the demo should be out by December.
-
I have a question that doesn't really warrant a new thread. Will there be a demo out for the English speaking regions?
-
You know, compression works wonders on file sizes. You could get a 50 min dvd quality movie down to around 400mb.

Nice stuff there D@nte. But I'd like to see some of your work. What I have been doing today. Last one I think is best. http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2741/sephi2copyaq7.jpg = 107.81kb Second and last sigs do have borders, just not very well defined, and I couldn't be bothered to upload the fixed versions.

I wouldn't say it's pointless. Wrong section perhaps, but not pointless.
-
http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/8646/terminatecopyfu5.png I'd say only the first one. I know it can't be seen very well, but it was more a practice than anything.

Then please, show us what shes created.

Made these to improve my PS skills.

A quicky attempt. @GBee: The diagonal stripe effect is a common motif in userbars, and is nice in sigs in general. Gives them a more professional look. Usually people make them in Photoshop by creating a diagonal stripe pattern and then using the pattern stamp tool to get a uniform look. There are other ways, but thats the most common and easiest.

http://www.ofp-sgc.com/ I believe I mentioned this before
-
Sites such as ofp-sgc are (atm anyway) uneffected by this. They do not use adverts to subsidise costs, and carry a disclaimer crediting all those involved in the Stargate franchise, and declaring their non-profit making objectives. Llauma is, however, correct in saying MGM have the right to legal action in the case of the news sites. Even if they also carried legally binding disclaimers, the use of adverts on the pages could be interpreted as an attempt at creating funds off the back of any Stargate media carried. It would be a case of not showing any news involving it at all, or remove adverts, consequently bringing financial difficulties to many sites.

You are only have freedom if you believe you do. It would be interesting to ask and compare members of different countries for their view as to whether they are free or not. Would a North Korean declare that he is free? Would an American citizen feel they are free?
-
I think what people are objecting to is the fact that EA and Dice are releasing a game that seems to be nothing more than a rehash of the previous game, with all the same bug problems as before (0 day patch anyone), cluttered with advertisement that that doesn't make it any cheaper (which is the benefit of advertisments to the consumer, if something carries them, it's cheap or free). Ad's may be the way of the future, but the way they are being implemented should mean the cost is reduced. If they were static, there wouldn't be too much of an issue. But EA are targeting their ad's dynamically, so in effect more money, that doesnt seem to be spent on quality control.
-
Well, I don't like what they do, but I also dont give that much of a monkeys. Fox News shoddy ethics aren't something worth having a coronary over. Those who are over-partirotic need to take a chill pill too. Defending your country is all well and good, but are you really doing it because it is right, or because you were told to? Common sense and independent thought is what seems to be missing these days.
-
Most forums I'm on have the general consensus that they won't be buying it. And will instead be getting Quake Wars. Which was my first choice anyway.
-
Fox News is the worst I have ever seen. It's not really news per sé, rather it's manipulative opinions with a nasty edge to them. Fair and unbiased coverage exists in no media outlet, other than those who collect the raw details. But I have rarely seen any as flagrant with their rhetoric as Fox. Only that of far left/right news sites surpass it. If you treat what they say as gospel, then you must be truely unhinged. *Battens down the hatches for the inevitable flames*

Why do people constantly make comparisons to BF2 and OFP? They are totally different in nearly every way imaginable for a wargame. BF2 is for that arcadey fix you need every once in a while, OFP is for that time when you need to think. Besides, BF2 never purports to be a sim, so that argument's a load of crap too.

It also means the mission maker does not need to compromise the mission in order to make it less frustrating for the player itself. A mission that frustrates someone usually means it wasnt made very well or is far too complex. Take Flashpoint for instance. The missions made so far have always had to have been from one persons perspective. It's not difficult to make a non frustrating mission. Maybe it can't be as varied as people would like, but you would realise that from the start. Besides, I don't have a problem with the character switching thing myself. Anyway, we digress.
-
Really? Well I wouldn't know, dont own any. But the point I was making is that if you really want to be able fanatically embed yourself in a reality, you shouldn't have the ability to change character/perspective whenever you like. Then it becomes less sim and more whim.

I think CrashDome hit the nail on the head there. The days of 500 page manuals and 6 installation disks is over. Why? Money. The vast majority does not wish to buy these kind of games today. They want something slick, with a "pick up and play" orientation. Notice how BIS have developed ArmA with a more user friendly edge? Switching between soldiers during play comes to mind for a start. For the purist this would be unthinkable, but most people don't have such a drive for realism and want to kick some arse, win, feel good about themselves, then go and eat something. I suppose we can blame EA to an extent, the masters of dumbing down. The only innotive games I can think of in their collection are The Sims and perhaps whats left of the C&C franchise. I like engrossing games, but there's a fine line between engrossing and downright daft. Games with a mythos that spans eons and yet aren't attached to any existing franchise/series don't usually do well commercially unless they do something interesting that would please any gamer. The whole zombies/monsters fad is just a fall back position. Games use it because its a successful money spinner. I wouldnt say all fantasy/sci-fi games are unrealistic though. The Half Life series has created a convincing reality whilst retaining its sci-fi premise.
