    Harriers:

actually the ability to angle the jets, done well greatly adds to the planes turn rate, it also means that the aircraft can operate from just about anywhere. Both of these attributes were used in the UK Harrier in the Falklands, the ability to operate from dispearsed sites was essential to the planning during the cold war. It also means that you don't need a full carrier to handle them and there is a story of a Royal Navy Harrier landing on a Spanish freighter, and Harriers being taken off of Atlantic Conveyor (a converted container ship) during the Falklands and landing on the Carriers. The US Marine Corp, if I remember correctly use big Landing Craft that can handle Harriers as well. Its a useful aircraft, if it wasn't the US wouldn't of bought it (overseas designs are generally a *big* no no for US Defence procurements) and the UK wouldn't have been using it for so long. As for its Vertical take off never being used in Combat, this leaves a very important omission, LANDING Its difficult for a Harrier to take off vertically with a full load of weapons, but it is usually landed vertically. As for "Ingesting Pebbles and other engine destroying debris" For one of the Original tests (before Animal rights I think ) the Engineers shot a chicken directly into the intakes without significant damage to the engine.

    Smallpox

Actually, no it isn't. A person who recieves the vaccine will definately will be resistant to smallpox for 4-5 years. This doesn't mean that they hit the five year mark and suddenly lose all resistance. The body has "seen" the virus, and it is producing its own anti-bodies against it, its what vaccines do. Some people can be vaccinated for something and until the day they die be totally immune from it Some people will not. I would say if you tested the same amount of people in 1991, of Service age in any other middle eastern country then you'd get the similar results. The point I'm trying to make is there are other explanations than "Saddam has horns and a tail and stole Christmas (and smallpox) from the Russians" Granted he isn't particularly a nice bloke (genocide can really mark a guy for life ) but at the moment all I see is an egomanical dictator who blew his one shot at becoming a regional super-power and still wants to be important. Hey, guess what there are quite a few of those about with worse stuff than this guy.

    Smallpox

Ever thought that these guys had been vaccinated in 1973 and retained their imunity? statistically quite a few people are still immune. you don't know how old these guys are or anything about their medical history.

This vehicle deserves special mention: it is a highly automated and «superarmed» (in terms of the number of target detection and engagement systems) light tank designed to stealth technologies whose maneuverability and speed are similar to those of a modern passenger car. It is one rare example of a weapon system designed, manufactured and funded by Minotor and its Russian and Belarusian partners." Vietcong-game

must admit the terrain is very very nice, and the little sounds in the background are very well done. The weapon effects are also good (try walking up to a fallen tree, crouching and pressing aim and you aim over the obstruction - firing from behind cover) I will be buying this game

"I'm not worried about the bullet with my name on it, there are millions of men fighting this war, what are the chances I'll find the bullet with my name on it? Is this realistic?

Black Hawk Down and Bravo Two Zero, both books go into rants about the differences of 5.56 and 7.62 rounds (without looking into the scientific studies)
  17. MrMilli

    Is this realistic?

If you get shot by even pistol rounds, you will fall down and cry out in pain. Forget all this BHD or B20 crap about the effectiveness of 5.56 rounds or such, the fact is unless you are a lucky person, if you get shot, you are out of the fight for at least until someone comes along, bandages it up and assures you your OK. The Mental shift from "I'm OK, I'm OK, I'm OK" to "Oh crap I'm bleeding!!" is enough to put many people out of a fight. (I think the BHD line "I can't drive I'm shot sir" sums this up, the guy was able to drive, but he was telling himself "I can't fight, I'm shot") If you get shot by a rifle round, you are going to fall down, and depending on where you get hit, not get back up again. If you get shot in the shoulder (portrayed as a minor wound) the bullet will at best shatter your shoulder bone (putting you down for at least a while) and at worst reflect off the shoulder bone and tear a line straight though your organs. Get shot in the leg, and if it doesn't hit a artery you will be unable to walk, and if your unable to walk usually (there have been a few medal filled exceptions) you are unable to fight. If it hits an artery you will be dead within minutes. No brilliant medic coming along to save you, cos there is nothing he can do. Unfortunately this makes for rather boring games, hence the whole health bar thing

    2 new acts of terror

Training missiles do not carry, or have the capacity to carry a full warhead. Training man portable AA launchers iirc do not have the capacity to fire the missile at all, and a "kill" is achieved when the user locks the target, after all aerial targets are expensive, and so are the missiles

For sem-automatics its 520fps both sniper and pistols as far as i know also i dont know if they`ll be treated as illegal or just as an airgun if u exceed the limit :| As for places to play over here the rule is to use them on private property with permission of the landowner (tip:-get written permission and keep it safe) even though their may be grounds better suited and safer to play on??? It may also be useful to go through the hassle of letting the local police know when ur going ,woopeee other wise some moron ,70% of the population, may think ur actually running around with an assualt rifle just for the fun of it woopee Also from what i`ve heard the clubs now are more smallish local ones, local clubs for local ppl which im not a big fan off so ill be sticking to laserquest for the meantime.<span id='postcolor'> to quote "There is no specific legal limit for Airsoft replicas! Firstly, Airsoft replicas are not weapons! A weapon is defined as something ‘which has a lethal effect on its target, or is capable of penetrating the skin’.  Evidence from the forensic science service (http://www.forensic.gov.uk/forensic/entry.htm), accepted by the Home Office, states that: ‘The lowest power level at which a penetrating injury can occur is at a muzzle energy of about one foot pound, which roughly equates to 1.35 joules’ So basically, anything with a muzzle energy of less than 1.35J is not a firearm, or weapon, and is not restricted in any way by the firearms act. [hence why if you look I never refer to airsoft guns as "weapons"] This also means they can be purchased by anyone, even young children. (See http://www.parliament.the-stationery-office.co.uk/pa....05.htm) 1.35J muzzle energy is approximately 380fps with a 0.2g BB, and limits are often quoted as an fps, assuming that it corresponds to a 0.2g BB..." This applies to all airsoft guns in the UK, a airsoft gun doing 500fps (including sniper rifles and definately self loaders doing 500fps) are classed as low powered air weapons, but when you play on a site you give consent to be shot at by these low powered air weapons, which because they have a power of over 1ft/lb are classed as "Firearms" not requiring a police issued certificate or otherwise licensed. So, technically as long as you give consent to be shot at by them, the limit can go as high as 12 ft/lb, but if you turn up with any gun clocking more than 500fps (or 1.7ft/lb) then the site owners will "politely invite you to vacate the property" and if you turn up with one doing 12ft/lb (or a scary 1329 fps) then you will be escorted off the site with your gun in about 7000 more pieces than it arrived in. If you turn up amazingly with anything over 12ft/lb, then it is well within the rights of the site owners to call the police, and have them nick you for possesion of an illegal firearm (which it would be classified as, and which you would get a hefty fine and/or prison term) Shoot someone with it and it you are "discharging an illegal firearm" or if you have a crap lawyer "Assualt (Which I have forgotten to spell)  with a deadly weapon" and you will be finding out what they mean with the endless "Bubba" prison jokes. Going back to sniper and self loader, a airsoft gun technically going over 12ft/lb and self loading or fully automatic fall under the same regulations as if you'd just bought a real steel AK-47 from some funny bloke called Vlad who sounds eastern european. No fines No Cautions You go to jail and do not pass go or collect Å200 by Single Action it does not mean semi-automatic, it means where an action is needed to fire again (hence why Cadets are allowed GP rifles but not SA80's converted to semi) However, since you play on a site technically giving consent to be shot at only by guns going up to 500fps, if you arrive with a gun clocked over that limit, consent is withdrawn and you could be prosecuted for it, even if it is clocking 501. buuuuutttt there is no precedent for this happening, so you might get away with it in court if you were prosecuted buuuuutttt maybe not, as you still violated the letter of the law in a country that is so gun-phobic people are campaigning for kiddies cap guns to be made illegal. To conclude, when I say the laws are iffy, I am actually understating the fact To those not living in the great land, ignore all of the above, as other countries make the power definition though there own independant national advisory services, and as such everyone comes up with a different result

Airsoft & Paintball and those in between.

M16A2 and M4, main difference that is instantly recognisable is the rate of fire, the M16A2 having a new motor chucks em out faster than the M4 (unmodified I'm on about here). There is also a just about noticeable difference in range (although not by much with both having fully charged batteries and same conditions) and a slightly more noticeable difference in accuracy (although you have to bear in mind accuracy isn't really much of a issue, as the weight of the shot isn't sufficient for good accuracy) A difference that becomes apparent later on is the Battery on an M4 will run out a lot quicker than an M16 large battery. Most people, barring malfunction, will not need to change an M16's battery in a day. An M4 battery needs to be changed about lunchtime. 6mm Paintballs in AEG's will burst as they leave the hop-up, the hop-up is meant to be clear and clean, and even the smallest particle will affect its performance. If a paintball bursts in the hop-up, then you might as well start looking for a new one. WGC, and all AEG's do not include cleaning fluid, they include a cleaning rod, which is a remarkably useless item without cleaning fluid Legal Limits in the UK are iffy, take a look at arnies airsoft for the best explanation. WGC prices are good, but you need to take into account all the charges before ordering, because if you can't pay them they you won't get the goods P.S M134, YES PLEASE!

For USA customers ( Express ) 1 Airsoft pistol : USD22-33 1 1 AEG : USD46-62 10kg : USD100-130 20kg : USD150-210 so for that FA-MAS, at best case your looking at $222, worst $238 without any import charges (don't know about the US but in the UK if somebody up there hates you this can go as high as 25% the declared cost of the goods)

It's usually some kind of soup. But the taste isn't very good. If the field kitchen isn't available then you will get rations.  These are generally quite good well at least when you compare them to the field kitchen food. The content of a ration varies but it contains canned food and then some Knorr meals. It also contains chocolade, water purification pills, matches etc. One ration is ment for 24 hours. All the food in the ration is available in supermarkets. Couple of times when we were having an exercise near barracks and the food from field kitchen was shite we ordered pizza. Delivery guy brought it to the garrison gate and we picked them up from there  <span id='postcolor'> There are "Field Kitchens" in the British Army, usually they are not sent on exercises (training) unless they are big ones, but are always somewhere along on operations. They do have a flaw that became apparent in Afghanistan (illness), usually they find the best stuff available locally, sometimes flying stuff in. The chefs in these field kitchens are professional cooks, subject now to health and safety and hygiene laws and used to be the Royal Catering Corp, now they are part of the Really Large Corp (or Royal Logistics Corp) A funny story I heard was a pheasant making its way onto a range, and ending up Dinner a few days later thanks to the cooks (shot in the arse by an SLR and jumping/forced up into another shot effectively taking its head off)
