  1. Ok..we all have our moments. Now share them. Last night I was sitting there waiting for an armor unit to roll over a hill. I ran to a bush, got out my law. Panicked when I saw no round was in the chamber. Went to my action menu frantically looking for the reload law funtion. When it wasn't there I immediately fell to the prone hopeing my AT flank would take him out. Needless to say I was swiss cheese in a matter of seconds. I had grabbed a law wihout any rounds in it. Doh!!!

    Wait a second.....

I am no scripter...maybe I should learn but I have no time. I saw the parachute under air items. I thought cool..airborne troops. I place them on the map but they start off on the ground. I want them to start off in the air. Do I have to load them on a helo and then have them jump out? I'd like to just have them start off on the way down. Any help is appreciated...

How far is a "klick" exactly?

A "Klick" is that distance that your platoon leader is usually off at 3:00 in the morning. "Cmon guys it is just another Klick away."

    Steering Parachutes

They were not crappy. Many combat jumps happen at 800 ft. Others happen at 600 ft. You don't want to float around and admire the scenery. Everyone and their brother are going to be trying to shoot you down. You get out of the plane, your chute deploys, you check your bearings and chute for holes (checking your rate of descent as well)---there is very little time to deploy a reserve-- After that you steer with your risers away from others (slipping away **slip away godd*amn it ...slip away!!) Then, when you are getting close to landing you lower your ruck on a lowering line and prepare for landing. People break legs, arms, backs because you land on something unlevel or just suck at landing. I'd rather have a hard landing than get shot on the way down. The chutes don't suck, the conditions (weather etc..) do.

    Steering Parachutes

Well, there are a couple of issues. I served with the Rangers in Benning and the 508th Airborne in Panama as a grunt. In Panama I was a M60 gunner, the guy with the heaviest load outside of the radio operator. If you had the misfortune to land in water with a 80lb ruck on your back, you might be in trouble. Every ruck has a quick release, so that isn't a problem unless you panick. But, when jumping on purpose (not ejecting) you have your ruck that you lower on a line so it is away from you. Either way, the real issue is your weapon, your LBV (load bearing vest), helmet, boots etc.... The first thing is that everyone who can jump at one time goes through water landings. Th hardest thing is getting out from under your chute in a rolling surf. The second hard part is learning to swim in boots. But again, you are trained for this. The point is it is "sink or swim" and the load is not the issue. Maybe in Private Ryan it was, but we are not taking about fully loaded troops hitting the water. If you know your life depends on it, you will swim with all that gear on. If you don't, your buddies next to you will carry your sorry ass to shore. The inability to swim is a tad disappointing. To blame it on inabilities to swim rather than cutting corners on the programming side is a little foolish. What other games caused you to drown with no chance of swimming?

how to use the watch and compass?

that's cheating....how can you say your coordinates if you don't know where you are. If you like realism, find your own way back/out/home...

    Addon missions

From the front choose "mission editor" and then the "wizard" on the bottom left. You will have to choose your map along the way. There will be tabs along the top once inside. Click a tab (groups) doubleclick on the map to place. Experiment from there and ask again when stuck.

how to use the watch and compass?

Of course make sure there are no baddies in the town when you waltz in to look at a sign. otherwise the only sign you will read is a tombstone saying "RIP"....lol

    50 for hummer

I'd have to agee. Why have a Jeep with a gun and not a Humvee? The MPs (Military Police) out there would probably be enthused to see these. Any Mechs would probably desire it too. Easy enough to do with a patch given the great support from BIS.

    Gamers Against Terrorism

You know what day I can't wait for? The day we have unmanned craft. At this time the best gamers can play for real. It will put a new meaning to the phrase armchair warriors. Nothing like sending some hot steal at some terrorists. You know I am surprised that we have not heard of any bounty hunting from resident snipers. I know with that bounty it would be tempting. I think instead of "Race around the world" there should be a new TV show called "bounty". They arm anyone willing and drop them into Afghanistan. Talk about real TV. Of course the contestants might not be around next season but that is the risk of fame.

how to use the watch and compass?

The compass is accessed by holding down "g". Ok...find a safe place...hunker down (get low)....access map by pushing "m" Find your self on the map. To do this use terrain highpoints, roads, water and towns. The gridlines get closer on the map at highpoints. This will take awhile but after you find yourself shoot an azimuth (compass direction) to a waypoint that you want. Say from the map you think there should be a town to the northeast at maybe 1000 meters or a click away (1 Kilometer). So you turn off your map and push "g" to see your direction of travel. OK, my map says I'm facing the wrong direction. South. Turn until the compass says you are facing northeast. Travel in that direction, stopping periodically to reference the map to see if the terrain looks right. Contine until you confirm your position or until you confirm that you are still lost. If lost...wash and repeat. A good compass man is essential. In real life your men get pretty pissed off if you get them lost.

    Wait a second.....

You guys are truly awesome. I appreciate the fact of all those who resisted the urge to tell me to go to a search function. Many thanks for the great follow ups. I think this should resolve my A-10 problem of it starting off in the woods. Having hunting fellas....
