    New Beta Build 71213 Up!

I know it is confusing but newly introduced issues (like this crashing of user made addons, it was caused by un-binarized models with empy LODs only, btw) are not added to patches change logs. The same is fix of not working bootcamp missions. There should be also one little but often very useful improvement that is not listed: in Windowed mode full path and command-line options are shown in the app title which did not make it to change-log.

    Arma2 Black Edition

    Sure it is official: http://petergames.de/ARMA-2-Black-Edition.81.0.html
  3. I believe replacement scripting command (even backwards compatible, deleteCollection will still work...) is under works and should make it to 1.06 or some betas before that, so probably no need to bother about it anymore :j:
  4. We are still at 1.05 version as there is no need to not be compatible in MP so far. Only when we really need to cut the ropes completely due to compatibility issues, version will be raised to 1.06 (for beta or final patch). Or did anyone get 1.06 yet?
  5. Absolutely impossible... But probably useful to know that modern GPU and audio drivers can utilize dual core pretty well so having dual core should be useful even for singlethreaded applications like Arma or OFP. The only multithreaded game from us is Arma 2.
  6. I do not get it. What are you trying to say? That BI is taking or modifying community work to be used in VBS2 without permission? We are very serious in respecting rights of creators of content and every time we reuse anything from community member we seek permission first. Anyway, I will ask for further clarification from VBS team to this matter. I also do not believe this community is as bad as you try to make it. Yes, it would definitely benefit from understanding licenses more (perhaps adopting more standard licenses would help: like http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses/ ) but it is different story... It is a shame you decided to not publish your work but it is your work so do whatever you like with it (and btw: despite our tools license and sample models license does not allow commercial use without permission, that does not mean we can not give such permission).

How is ARMA 2 doing lately?

You are not correct in this bit. AI, esp. machine gunners, use suppression a lot as common tactics and you can observe it in many situations.

    ETA for Steam 1.05?

There is currently no ETA for Steam auto update. The problem is that the auto update will be larger than 5 GBs and we hope majority of users will be able to update manually using much smaller differential updater instead. Sometimes in January I assume inevitable will happen and we will unleash full updated version 1.05 there but be aware that it will be very large file
  9. It is recommended to install Eagle Wing hotfix, see this topic for more information http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=92322 Thank you
  10. An updated version of Linux beta server build 61018 is available now for download. Most important change is added support for http://www.battleye.com anticheat system. We are pleased to announce that Arma II Linux Server 1.04 Public Beta is available now for download. We believe all major performance and stability problems are fixed now. Please post your feedback to this thread. Thank you again for your help with the testing of the Linux server platform for Arma II.

    1.05 released

BI Wiki knows is it all (almost): http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_2:_Patch_v1.05
  12. Main reg. key contains details about the installatio path. Why is could be missing on your system, honestly, I don't know, but that is the reason for patch installation problem.
  13. What version you have (Steam, other?) and what OS?
  14. I would like to apologize for massive delay with finalization of Arma I version. Release of Arma II required much more effort than we could imagine. However, we did not forget our previous title and we still intend to leave it in as good shape as possible. We are aware there are some critical bug fixes already in 1.16 and we also managed to do some more fixes in 1.17 that we hope may increase stability and future compatibility of ARMA I. We intend to use 1.17 as the very last EXE revision for first ARMA. http://www.armedassault.com/downloads/ARMAPatch_1_17_Beta.zip We currently have very little resources to test this new revision and we ask the community to help with testing it. If you still have Arma 1 and have time to test this latest version please give it go and post your observations to the forums. There is only one thing that matters in this regard is that the version 1.17 does not introduce any serious new issues not present in 1.14 (the last official version). All other issues has to stay. We will be reading the forums in next 1 or 2 weeks and hopefully make 1.17 the final official release for ARMA I very soon.

ARMA I - Final Patch Plans and Beta

We needed more time but finally we seem to be near the end of the long process and I am proud to announce release candidate of 1.18 available to download from: http://www.armedassault.com/downloads/ARMA_Update118RC.zip And linux server from http://www.armedassault.com/downloads/arma1server-1.18.tar.bz2 We consider this patch final but we mark it Release Candidate just in case some major problem is found.
  16. UPDATED: Updated Arma II Linux Server 1.04 Public Alpha Build 59962 is available now for download. Older version: Arma II Linux Server 1.04 Public Alpha is available now for download. Please post your feedback to this thread. Thank you in advance for your help with the testing of the Linux server platform for Arma II.
  17. Yes, confirmed bug, it seems to be a bug in latest beta. New feature in mp browser missing some resources to support it.
  18. It was simple mistake with wrong executable included in the beta server. Should be fixed in the updated version of Linux beta server build 61018 making it again version 1.04 for testing purposes. At least you can see final 1.05 is getting closer
  19. Bumpy road. One small but show stopper problem found (TeamSpeak overlay and Arma 1.17 did not like each other well, resulting in app hang). This is hopefully fixed, once verified we can progress further. Also, too much other higher priority work slowed us down...

Well, perhaps because shown audio recording session was for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, and that game is not out yet? :j: There were already few real world recording sessions and more are planned. We hope in the finished game it will be worth the effort but you have to wait few more months. On the other hand, one of the problems is that you may need to make our games sound louder than rest in order to hear it the way we made it. To get a bit better understanding, we prefer to keep full dynamic range of real world over dynamic compression (that is considered as great sound by many users for some reason: they perceive the sound louder but there is a price paid: loss of detail and accuracy). This is quite interesting general problem not affecting only games, probably best illustrated here: Loudness war at wikipedia.org.

    Difference Between A1 and A2?

The Key Improvements over ArmA that certainly can not be achieved by any modification to Arma 1 at this level: • Micro AI: AI can precisely navigate, find cover and co-operate with centimetre precision (in comparison to meter precision in ArmA 1) • Suppressive fire simulation • Battlefield clearance and first aid • Dynamic conversation and communication system • Animations (more fluid and realistic, hand signals, ability to reload while walking, climb over smaller obstacles) • Mega SEF - brand new sound engine allowing very complex sound effects • Player-driven main story with emphasis on the team • multicore optimisations (more troops and higher detailed scenes combined with a solid frame rate) • Shader Model 3.0 (hemispherical lighting, parallax maps etc.) • support for multiple joysticks/controllers • tons of new scripting options http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:ArmA_2:_New_Scripting_Commands_List This is almost direct quote from http://www.arma2.com/supply/presskit/download/15-arma2-factsandfigures.html?lang=en Some more detailed info can be found here: http://www.arma2.com/supply/presskit/folder.html?lang=en
  23. It should work exactly the same with both 1.08 and 1.14 as all files that are different between these two official versions are replaced in the beta anyway.
