Terain detail and other visual settings

I have just upgraded my graphics card from a KyroII to a GeForce 4 Ti. By doing this I can now play with terrain detail set to High / Very High depending on View Distance (always max but Very high is not available at ~> 900). My questions is when in Very High mode the terrain is "bumpy" and I can crawl close to objectives without seeing certain things - e.g. Other players / Buildings etc. Now when I used my Kyro II I had terrain set on low, in this mode the terrain was fairly flat - crawling was pointless as you could be seen from a large distance. This surely makes the game slightly unfair, as someone playing in High may think they are hidden from view (because they cant see x), but player X is on low detail and can clearly see the player on High Detail. The same is true for smoke, I use smoke alot when I am playing to conceal my movements, but often I have been shot thru my smoke, when I ask how the other player sais they have clouds / smoke turned off. Is this not a form of cheating as well? Im not complaining, just after your comments. Thanks

    Grapgic quality

So to run on higest I would recommend a P4 2.2 GHz + and more than 512MB of memory - cheap at moment so go for 1GB. Graphics card - not vital, but go for a good one - GeForce 4 Ti are good at the moment, wait for one with a NV30 code (GeForce 5 ish)

    Grapgic quality

My 2 cents (or 1.3 Pence), In OFP original, CPU was the main bottle neck - My PIII 850 could just about cope, but my KyroII was fine for graphics. and I had 384MB ram so that was fine (game could only use 256MB). Now with OFP:R, Processor is still important, but so is Graphics Card - I now have a GeFore 4 Ti and that has allowed me to set detail levels to higher settings. The processor is still a bottle neck, but now so is memory 384MB is not really enough.

    Server fps and load

This has probably been said many times before but if the Dedicated server could run on multiple processors then that would be really good - I have a 4 way PIII Xeon system that I would love to run as a dedicated server, but my PIII 850Mhz runs faster than it because the dedicated server software only uses one processor (or 25% of all)

    Friend or foe

Also if you are playing with people you know work out a system of identifying each other. My tactic is if you are running towards a friendly then point your rifle down at the ground, thus they know youy are not aiming at them.

    Friend or foe

This is the hardest bit of Multiplayer. It is impossible (I think) to tell what side someone is on if they are in a vehicle and you cant see them. This is why I always try to play as a leader, then you can start to issue a command and then when you move the mouse over a player / vehicle then it shows their name and red / green color BUT DONT TRUST the colour. It is often wrong if they have used an ememy vehicle. Press "I" and check their name againg the side listing. This will take time but is best practice. If the person is on foot then just tell by the helmet - US use a PASGT Helmet that is very distinctive. Soviets have a shiny Steel one.

    Resistance sight seeing?

Great tour, why are the images so dark (I know its sunrise / sunset) but why not take the tour at a better time of the day. Im thinking of making a mission called "Guided Tour" where your get a guided tour of the island by helicopter.

    Climbing the lift shaft

I am replaying the Resistance campaign, having finished it a few days ago. Now with every mission I am exploring the place. In the very first playable mission, when you get a lift to the town to catch the bus. While waiting for the bus I explored and the nearest tower block you can go into and then open the lift door. The climb lader up, and climb lader up again and you emerge on top of the tower block - you can open the door and go out onto the roof. Just be careful because there arnt any guard rails and you can fall off the edge. Having said that when I saw the bus coming, from the roof, I jumped (ran) off the roof and I survived - bloddied but alive and was able to catch my bus!

    Slow down ?

There are lots of topics that are discussing the hardware requirements for resistance. I would say to run everything at absolute best / max you would require P4 3Ghz 1GB Ram GeForce 5 5800 Graphics card Thats how they designed Resistance, too good for current hardware so in 6 months time the game will still be up there with the best of the new games coming out. Its still a good game on my 850Mhz / KyroII system, and its nice to know if I upgrade my hardware Ill be able to improve the graphic quality.

    Climbing the lift shaft

Yes you can open doors, an option appears on the action menu. But only for certain doors.

What's the best video card for resistance

If you can afford it go with the best (4600), but the savings by going for a 4400 are substantial ~Å80 I think. What are the other specs of the computer (Processor speed, ammount of memory). I would say it may be wiser with the Å80 you could save by going for the 4400 that could go along way to buying another 512MB DIMM. Whats your budget overall?

    Final mission question **spoiler alert**

I rewrote the end cut scene. In my version, Victor is running into the hills as he did in the original, but just as all looks lost little specs appear on the cliffs above him. Low and behold is is a squad of US AT soldiers each one targets one of the tanks while Guba is giving his "Hollywood baddie" speech. Just as he is about to yell fire a voley of AT round slam into each tank. There are still some infantry left, but they are taken care of by a Apache that seeeps in over the beach. Victor sees Guba running away (back to airport) and pursues on foot, but he is without any weapons. Guba reaches his MI:17 Helicopter, and it takes off but Victor is able to grab hold of the undercarridge, (using an attatch.sqs script from OFPEC.com), but Victor falls off as the MI:17 as it moves over the sea. He survives and the final scene is him promising revenge. Fade to black.

    Ai very random.......**SPOILER**

Yes, ive noticed lots more randomness in resistance. That was a problem in the original OFP for me was if I saved and had to revert I knew by looking at my in game watch for example that in 20 seconds a T72 is going to come round that corner. The scripts thing I spotted that too - I was like "was that not xyz's script" - ive seen that before! But with all coding there are about 20 ways to do the same thing so im not overly bothered.

Thanks, very poignant given the final cutscene. Should have thought to check the FAQ
