Too bad there arent many tank simulators

Has anyone heard of it in the news? It was flying way north of the british sector and it crashed, killing those on board. Iraqi insurgents claim to have killed it with an RPG In british TV there have already popped out various ''experts'' claiming this is not true. Any opinions here?

Hmmm... your name is not Ahmed, is it? Even with practice this would be difficult. And I dont think the same band of rebels would survive long shooting RPGs on passing airplanes.

I imagine a hit on the wing would have a chance to ignite the fuel and blast the airplane. But the problem would be hitting the airplane at all, even in low altitude and speed. That was a helluva shot or the Iraquis got some new AA missiles or simply the whole thing is BS like that farmer that downed an apache with an enfield Edit: Helicopters obviously fly slower and close to the ground. In Mongadishu, the blackhawks were both shot in the tail rotor.

The only game I have is the universal combat and it was better that Freelancer (which I have) with its Legoland tiny planets or unbelievably boring X2 with the ''zeppelin'' spaceships and the galactic economy building . These two were the heavyweights right before I bought UC. I looked for the Dereck Smart flamewars in the internet; whats with this war they have started on him/ lies that he may or may not have said? and more important why should I give a sh*t? Im not marrying the guy.

LOL! No seriously, have you ever played the last part of the series? Or seen a screenshot, or whatever?... And X2 really is boring, from the shop, in my computer and straigt back for a refund... And before I ever heard of UC

Are you talking about BC? It is FAAAR better than such dull, boring trash like X2 and freelancer. And it feels less like arcade.

The Battlecruiser series are quite good. Battle in huge ships, fighters, tanks or on foot, pretty much like OPF of the third millenium...

Full speed? Are submarines that tough?

No matter what rig you set up, you will never play OPF in very high detail and with acceptable framerates. It will always look worse from newer games. Bah! OPF is obsolete.... BIS should hurry with the sequel

I recently got this one, great fun and graphics. The only one as good was the ill fated universal combat.

Well, this is officially over. It was just two poor fools, nationality Albanian, who wanted some money and an airplane to get them out of the country. They held up to the last hour 2 men and 4 women. Members of their families contacted them and persuaded them to give up. Glad that noone got shot although I think the police would have pulled this off, there were only six hostages and the two guys were not that determined.

The police will try and negotiate it. They will probably think twice before they send a squad in, they have a history of fu**ups.

You can really say anything about ''dying for your country'' since it is so broad an expression. Historical battles come to mind: Did the germans at Stalingrad die for their country? What about those that died in the invasion of France. Or the thousands of SS troops coming from Holland, France, Eastern European countries and Norway? Did they die for their countries? Does dying for your country equate to dying for ideology, beliefs? And what about the suicide bombers in Middle East and the Americans in Iraq? Or the Spartans in Thermopylae? These examples illustrate that appart from a very few special cases, nobody wants to die for his country. Sure, they went to war expecting glory, a good pay or to avoid something back home but survival is always the foremost. In the special cases, people are either too damn stupid or they have no choice and then they do their best to make sure that their lives have not been lost in vain. My personal opinion is that dying for anything except children, family etc is simply stupid. Much better to live and fight, it takes more courage after all.

Huh ,AFAIK the human genome project was completed somewhere around 2003. And yes ,thats what's Wikipedia is claiming to: To sequence something as humognous as the human genome you first have to break it into hundrets of thousands of pieces and incorporate it into yeast genetic material. Then you can sequence each of the pieces but since the breaking is not entirely accurate and you dont know which pieces you have, you need very powerful computers which will compare the ends of all those pieces and match them in the correct order. The first part is as you said complete. The second part has still a very long way to go and what has been done up to now is based on the genomes of the nematode worms and other eukaryotes, which have been completed for some time. The full completion will take another 10 years, at least that is the common knowledge amongst the professionals here in the university.

The human genome has not finished yet... They have sequenced the majority of the genome (about 90%) in very small pieces of genetic information. It will take another 10 years to assemble those contigs in a complete map. Essentially they only have the pieces of the puzzle, not the big picture.

Good missions must play well, be imaginative and unlike everything we have seen and be well scripted. They may also require specific addons. This is both hard and time consuming for the average modder.
