I used to enjoy Alistair MacLean a lot when I was a teenager... You know, "Where Eagles Dare", "Guns of Navarrone", just to name a few. Recently I've become really interested in anything by Tom Clancy (except those cheesy op-center books). What kind of stuff do you guys read? It could be fictional, or real-life stuff.

I've tried everything mentioned in Avon's FAQ about this problem but nothing's working. Â Please, those of you who have encountered this problem, tell me how you fixed it. I am desperate. Â Here's the details: I get the File copy error (CRC does not match) everytime I try to install Resistance. Â It always happens at C:\ProgramFiles\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\Res\AddOns\M2A2.pbo. I've tried everything, Defragment, scandisk, clean re-install of OFP, I tried to manually copy the above file into it's folder from the resistance CD, but it still won't work!!! Â I even installed that ASPI layer stuff that some people were having problems with. My specs: AMD Athlon 1.33GHz AD-11 Mobo 512MB PC2100 DDR Ram Maxtor 7200rpm 40GB HD MSI Geforce4 Ti4200 128MB DDR Creative SB Audigy - Gamer TDK CD-RW Toshiba DVD-ROM Cable Modem ... ... ... Windows XP (Home Edition) Please HEEEELP!!!!

A little less than 10 years ago when I first replaced my trusty beefed up "Amiga 500" with an IBM PC with 4MB of RAM and a sporty CD-ROM, adventure games were all the rage. Â You know 7th Guest, Myst, Zork, etc... Â I remember loving these games even though they got phased out quickly by the Doom revolution. Is this genre dead or can anyone suggest any modern adventure games with some stimulating puzzles? Â I'm looking for some gaming variety now that I have some time on my hands over the holidays; preferably something that will let me use my old noodle more.

I've seen a few Coops, and heard a lot of talk about stuff that is still in progress, but where are the completed SP missions for the SEB Vieatnam Pack 2.0? Â I know they are out there somewhere. I'm sick of playing my own crappy missions. Â If you know of any good ones, please post the links here.

Merry Christmas! Ok, I finally finished my latest mission for the awesome Vietnam Pack 2.0. by Select This. Â This mission is my masterpiece! Â The fruit of many hours of teaching myself new tricks with the editor. Â It's called "1st Air Cav - Welcome to the Shit!" It's inspired by a mix of several real-life missions by 'C' Company 1/5th Cavalry,1st Air Cav during the Vietnam War - Air assult into a hot LZ, conduct a Movement to Contact, neutralize a VC strongpoint, defend a position against an onslaught of NVA troops. Â Call in for air strikes. Â This is the OFP Vietnam experience... Can you stay alive? This is my first mission that I've deemed worthy to share with the OFP community, so don't be surprised if you find a bug or two. I'm fairly new to this so let me know if you have any major problems with it. If anyone wants to try it out I'll email it to you if you PM me. Â Also I would really appreciate it if someone could host it for me as I have no webspace of my own. Â The file is slightly on the large side (5.4MB) due to some killer music files that gives the mission it's atmosphere, but it is well worth the download. Let me know what you think

Well this sucks major fucking ass... My unit is mobilizing, I'm officially on active duty again as of tomorrow at 1200. Â They are shipping us overseas off to god knows fucking where! Â (I have a good idea where)... You can be sure that things are looking pretty bad when the government decides to activate a little hodunk light infantry unit like mine! Â They didn't even avtivate us during Desert Storm! Â We are just a bunch of college kids and a few crusty old timers who should have retired a long time ago. Â Very few people have any previous active duty service. Â This is majorly fucked up. Â My whole college plan just went down the drain. My graduation date will have to be pushed back another year if I'm even still alive! Â If they send us into combat we are dead meat! Â Our CO is a fucking retard! Ok, the reason for this post is not to really make an announcement of my deployment but rather a last opportunity for me to make a public "fuck you statement". Â Here we go: Fuck all you mother fuckers who voted for that war mongering money hungry oil sucking shit bag in the White House. Â Fuck all you fucking arm chair generals who supports his insane crusade. You'd be singing a different tune if your own ass was on the line! Â Fight your own fucking wars if you had any fucking balls! Â Fuck Saddam Hussein, Fuck Osama Bin Laden and his Al Qaeda, Fuck Iraq, and Fuck the entire Middle East!! Fuck North Korea and... who did I forget. Anyway, If you'll excuse me I have to get back to spend some time with my wife and my 16 month old son before I leave. I hope you war supporters are happy! Your shit storm you've been begging for is about to come true! Happy fucking New Years!

Thanks guys, sorry about the profanity! I really had to vent or my head would have exploded. So long.

Yes you guys need to be careful with the airstrikes. Just like in real-life, the bombers may not drop their payload exactly at the coordinates you intended, especially if they are too close to any enemy installations such as the VC mortars position that you are supposed to neutralize. Also keep in mind that the napalm will completely destroy anything within a 55m radius. There is no way to hide from the flames. These kind of mistakes happened more frequently than they should in real life during the Vietnam War. Many US service men lost their life this way.

What else were they supposed to do? pat the guy on the back and go home for tea and medals? then there would be another article up here about how the US wasted $250m on a useless exercise that didn't even get off the ground.<span id='postcolor'> I agree, training is training. You have to try to get the most out of it once it's rolling. It would be considered "waste fraud and abuse" to just end it once you failed. If things go to shit and the opfor's get the upper hand, you call a time-out, figure out what went wrong, then try the excercise again until you get it right. This is what all military services do. Many lessons were learned from Van Ripen's initial successes, and you can bet your boots that many people got a major ass chewing for it. Reading about Van Ripens tactics, I also found them a bit unrealistic, so I understand why some of the Navy brass complained. This is what training is all about. Finding weaknesses in your own tactics. When you realize you've made a fatal mistake, you go back and correct it, then do it again until you make another fatal mistake, and so on. As far as scripting, there is nothing wrong with that either if you are practicing for a specific situation. You have to this in order to prepare for certain situations. Most of our enemies are not going to be West Point graduates so you have to train according to what you most likely have to deal with in the real world. There probably are some old school type generals and admirals out there still who still train like we may be going to war with the Soviet Union, but it is in exercises such as these that the weakness in their tactics is shown. At the end of the day, even flag-officers have to answer to their superiors. I for one do not doubt for a second the abilities of the US Navy and Marine Corps.

North korea warns us of "uncontrollable catastroph

Holy crap! I just browsed through the DPRK website... It's hair raising. Â These guys are completely insane!! </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> While visiting the museum, the servicemen and the working people vowed to glorify the era of the army-based policy led by Kim Jong Il, the great and illustrious commander born of heaven, bearing deep in mind the great pride and honor of making the revolution guided by him. <span id='postcolor'> Born of heaven?... </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">The president's immortal revolutionary career and exploits are shining century after century thanks to Kim Jong Il's noble moral obligation to carry forward his idea and exploits 100 per cent. Â Â The Korean people are now devoting their all to their struggle to glorify the president's idea and exploits forever. Â Â Kim Jong Il's wise guidance is found in glorifying the exploits of the revolutionary forerunners, leading all the people to live and work as they did, making the whole society replete with comradely love and obligation and cementing the single-hearted unity of our revolution as firm as a rock. <span id='postcolor'> What's with this Jong? It sounds like he thinks he's a god or something. Â Is this really the kind of stuff the North Korean govenment is telling their people? Â I find it very hard to believe that anyone would be stupid enough to broadcast such garbage... I mean who do they think is going to believe such crap? Â Are the people of North Korea a bunch of suckers? Â I doubt it. I wish I knew more about their history and culture. Â These glimpses I'm getting are shocking to me. This is the 21st century for christs sake. Â This Jong Il lunatic is making Saddam look like a decent guy. -
I suspect that this guy is just plain stupid so I'm not going to try to argue against his dumb ass conclusions. He's too wrong on too many points. I felt like vomiting when I read that crap. What a waste of 2 minutes.

I bought Falcon 4 back when it first came out, but I never really played it. I fiddled around with it for about a week but I was never able to figure out how to work all those avionics. Too damn realistic for my dumb self I guess. Falcon 4 has been sitting on my shelf ever since. Next time you guys are in Florida, stop by my house and I'll give it to you. WW1 air combat is my absolute favourite. Stick, Throttle, Pedals, and perhaps one or two gauges, speed, and altimeter. Thats flying... These modern flight sims with all that fancy pants complicated avionics systems takes all the fun out of air combat. Youre flying along, then poof youre dead. Shot by some inferior aircraft from a hundered miles away.. Pfft.. One of my favourite WW1 sims was "Flying Corps". It came with several paper maps that you had to use for navigation as there was no in game map. The missions were linear but it was still great. I eventually switched to Red Baron 3D with it's awesome dynamic campaign modes. I loved the whole career thing, you could request to transfer into other squadrons who had better airplanes, or you could be invited by famous aces to join their elite squads. You could follow your fellow pilots careers, while struggling to keep them alive. It had such an incredible depth. I haven't seen any WW1 flight since! I played some CFS2 WW1 unofficial mods, but its not the same. I need a new really cool WW1 game just like Red Baron 3D, but with all the bells and whistles that our new computers can muster.

Kermit... *rolls eyes* can't you at least try not to be so rude all the time. There's new stuff for OFP coming out all the time, official, and non-official. If you are wondering about OFP2 then well... It will get here when it gets here. We are all awaiting any news from BIS on that one. Go to Avon's FAQ if you want to read up on the latest rumors!

I checked the file, I can't find any problems with it. However, when I played the downloaded version, I discovered that an old annoying bug has returned. The helicopter taking your squad to the LZ tries to land in the nearby woods instead of in the LZ. I was sure that I had this problem fixed last night, but for some reason.... I'm using SnYper's detect_choppers.sqs scriot for the insertion sequence. If anyone can help me fix this problem I'd be grateful. I'm leaving the link open for now in case anyone wants to help me troubleshoot it! The mission is still playable despite this particular annoying event. Feel free to download it. I guess I'm going to have to declare this mission still in BETA.

North korea warns us of "uncontrollable catastroph
Lazarus_Long replied to foxer's topic in OFFTOPIC
Jeesh, what the hell is wrong with these people? I don't understand why North Korea is trying to piss off the world like this. What do they have to gain from making these horrible threats? Is this Jong guy simply insane, or is there some part of the story that I havent read about? Sure, Bush's insult, calling them "evil" was a bit silly, but com'on... Something does not add up here. -
What channel are they showing the "Christmas Story" on? Don't they usually have it running all day long over and over on a certain channel? I know they did last year. It was very convenient, you could watch it whenever. I love that movie. I hear it beat "It's a Wonerful Life" for the no.1 christmas movie of all time!
