  1. I can think of several military applications actually. A friend of mine used to serve as a member of a mobile AT unit. They had to carry loads of heavy stuff, ammo for example, over long stretches. This would probably be quite useful for them.

Other people that could benefit would possibly medics or repair crews, having to carry heavy loads but not wanting to be slowed down.

At any rate, that isnt a finished product. Its just a taste of what to come. Imagine a full exo suit like that.

  2. A couple of guys I know were recently on a STALKER press tour and they got to visit the Chernobyl area. They were quite moved of what they had seen. Seemed very surreal to them, and from watching these pictures I can understand why. Very interesting stuff.

  3. Quote[/b] ]It still however annoys me that it seems these people really don't know what they need or want. One minute cursing the name of American soldiers for being involved in their country and then cursing them for not being involved enough (security wise), which was an issue.

The reason for this is simple. America went in and destroyed the existing government and lawenforcement. Naturally, this was not appretiated by the people living there. However, by doing this, the US also comitted itself to the protection of civilians until a new government and efficient lawenforcement is in place. And right now, they are apparently failing their task.

So it is not at all strange that citizens both dislike American soldiers and want them to protect them. They have no one else to do so.

  4. Of course the should be banned. A ban wont rid the world of AP mines, but it might help to limit the problem some what.

Not issuing a ban on the basis of it not ridding the world of AP mines would be like not outlawing murder because people can still do it.

  5. Quote[/b] ]As for the 'landmines are in-humane' argument; why is having your foot or leg blown off, your body cut in half, or peppered with shrapnell by an AP landmine any less humane than having the same things happen to you with any other weapon system? By that logic, all weapons should be banned and warfare made illegal, but that ain't gonna' happen, not in this lifetime or any other.

Because most other weaponsystems dont do this to people 5 years after the war is over when they are tending their fields?

  6. Schools have always been violent, but people didnt use to care much about it.

But yeah, violence has become worse, but I doubt it has to do with just video games. Its the entire media exposure combined with games, movies and so on. And add to this the fact that far to many kids these days have far to much free time on their hands. In the past, kids were busy helping their families. Today, they roam the street with nothing constructive to do.

Another thing that might be an issue in all of this is the fact that many kids believe they have rights and power to do what they will. To some extent they do, but I have seen examples where this has gotten way out of hand.

  7. For all you Nordic people who can watch Swedish Channel 4 (TV 4) there is a documentary on the violence in video games on wednesday at 2100 hours. They aparantly has some new "revolutionary results" and "never before seen footage from the wealthy game industry" that proves once and for all that if your kid plays a video game they will become lunatics. Case in point, Columbine.

Its not like we havent seen these things before with roleplaying games, hard rock and Marilyn Manson, but... Any way, it should be an entertaining watch.

  8. Quote[/b] ]It's time to forget about that incident in the 1930's that outlawed the use of military forces against riots. Using conscripts against riots together with the police would be so much more efficant and it would give them some training. And using conscripts for safety during international meetings and conferences in Sweden would be a lot cheaper than the use of police officers. Etc, etc. Damn it's such a waste.

We dont need conscripts for that, we got the police beta squad. I dont know the english term for them, possibly police reservists, but we got them. A couple of units / major town. But we've never used them.

  9. Quote[/b] ]Stop the refugee immigration, kick out all criminal immigrants, and give the money saved there to the defence forces and the police. Many problems solved.

The way immigration is handled is just one thing that needs changing. Changing it alone, and not doing anything else, wont help much at all. It is part of the problem, but not the only part of it. Not even the main part.

The problem is that we are losing many companies to foreign nations because of our own high taxes and high salaries. Then we are bleeding money from open wounds, and these wounds include immigration, foreign aid, the military and several half-arsed projects all over Sweden.

The best example I can give is deciding to place JAS planes at F 10, starting construction to house and support the new planes, closing F 10 but still finishing the construction for the new planes. Thats insane, and stupid.

Another fine example of excellent planning that cost us loads of cash is the tunnel through the Halland ridge. A fine debacle that surely could have been avoided.

  10. Quote[/b] ]yeah, that´s what Svenska freds (Swedish peace organisation) said.. "cancell all and maintain a small force for international duty". THEN WHERE THE HECK SHOULD WE TRAIN THEM???

And they are right. While I dont agree with their reasons for such a statement, I think its the only right way to go. Either we go all the way and establish a strong defense suitable for its task, or we dismantle it all together. A half arsed version does no good.

Either we decide that we want to be prepared for a future invasion of our land, and take the cost of that. Or we say "Screw the defense, lets use the resources elsewhere so its more efficient".

I am sure we could train and maintain an international force on its own basis. Its simply a matter of reorganising the current military design and tailor make it to fit a new mission, which would be focused on international missions.

  11. Just close it all down and move some of the resource over to the rescue services, police and hospitals. Keep enough to maintain a small military unit for international duty.

Our defense right now is a joke, and its becoming sader.

  12. They are probably not saying anything because they dont want to jump the gun. Wait and see.

In the news today, Hans Blix also suspected to have been bugged by the US.

I say we rid ourself of all nations, throw up a couple of more stars on the US banner and nominate Bush our führer!

  13. "According to Aftenposten, killing those dogs was actually their mission."

It might have been their mission but they were piss-poor at what they did.

You dont hunt animals with assaultrifles, SMG's and pistols. You use a rifle.

I have an extremely hard time believing that among all these UN troops and local civilians there were no trained and experienced hunters.

And they even hit a civilian while "hunting" and shot animals in plain sight of children. Yeah, good job!

  14. Quote[/b] ]Correct me if im wrong, but aren't convicted felons forbidden to vote?

Think its like that in some states. However, my point was that a system isnt unfair just because people chose not to vote.

And it isnt unfair about felons not voting either, really. They have a choice to comitt a crime or not, after all smile_o.gif

  15. Quote[/b] ]No system is fair unless 100% of the voters actually vote . How many voted in 2000? Maybe 40% of the population?

Its fair if all 100% have the option to vote. If then 60% chose not to, its their choice. But its still fair.

  16. Talk about stupid. Not only did they pull this stunt, which is probably illegal and definately morally wrong, but they also filmed it and kept the tape. After knowing they had injured a man.

Scarier still is, how many peacekeepers like this are there over the world (Norweigans and others, I think stupidity is worldwide) that never get caught?

  17. Yes, they are tabloids. But they still cater to the public and I have a very hard time believing they would put up material deemed to offensive for the public eye. And at any rate, their credibility is not an issue here as the video and comments from various officials speak their own language.
