    Canadians, I need your help!

Thanks loads Tovarish, that atleast gives me a ballpark idea of living costs. Seems much cheaper than we have here. Actually I BBQ it with gasoline and put it on my DVD's. I didnt know you could cook or eat it any other way. But I will try that bread thing you talked about! Hmph, and I thought bread was only good for filtering bad moonshine. Who'd have thunk it!
  2. Sources: http://www.expressen.se/index.jsp?a=160142 http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyheter/story/0,2789,504973,00.html Explenation: 8 men belonging to a Polish security company have been arrested in Sweden, after having themselves arrested 3 men suspected of extortion. The three men were also Polish, and the security force was hired by a Polish building contractor working and living in Sweden. He had been the victim of extortion for quite a while and the Swedish police was unable to help him. So he hired this company, who sent 8 men in uniform, balaclavas and body armor to take down the three criminals. They apprehended the men in an apartment, dragged them outside and called the Swedish police. Of course the Swedish police didnt approve at all of this, and arrested everybody involved. Some reports say one of the security men, the leader of the group, has some form of diplomatic immunity. In this case, I say the police should just let the security company do their thing. Swedish police has been unable to effectively stop these kind of criminals, yet they hit hard when people defend themselves. I know that this form of vigilanty justice isnt really a good thing, yet I understand the point of the businessman who hired this company to take care of the issue. Food for thought: Is this something we might see more of around the world, as in private security companies from country A operating in country B without the support of country B's government and justice system? And if so, is it all good, all bad or a necessery evil?

I guess we will have to wait and see. I am sure there will be plenty of investigations into this.

Polish security force arrested in Sweden

Not necesserily. If the three criminals were in the process of threatening or acting against the businessman, it could be considered legal. I am not sure, but I heard he did. Both through Expressen and Aftonbladet, but also through for example Metro and various news reports. http://www.expressen.se/expressen/jsp/polopoly.jsp?a=160607 He went to the police one or two days before and filed a report that the three guys were threatening him to buy merchandise from them or get hurt, and to hire "black" labor. The security force then arrested the three later as they were actually doing this, and the police was called to the scene and the criminals handed over. http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/nyheter/story/0,2789,505542,00.html The extortion had been going on for four years. First report filed with the police two years ago, but they havent been able to help him.

    The truth about Canadian peacekeepers.

Russians are bad. We all know that. They are always the enemies in military wargames, so they MUST be bad... Right...? ;P

The best way to get a kid to do anything is to just say they cant or must not. Thats almost a fool proof way of making sure that they WILL do it. Another good thing is to warn a kid for something that seems harmless, its a sure way of getting the kid to try it. Personal opinion: Ban smoking in public places because of secondary inhalation. Allow people to use drugs as long as they are doing it in a legal way (ie not causing harm to others as a primary or secondary result of drug usage). Remove the taboos and some of the problems are sure to disappear as well. Yes, we might create some new ones, but the question is if its worse than what we got. I doubt it.

When did Iraq ever kill any Americans outside of the Gulf? And especially thousands of them?

Polish security force arrested in Sweden

We also have that in Sweden, called "envars gripande" or "any mans arrest" roughly translated. Means you can apprehend a criminal at the scene of a crime until the police gets there. I dont know if it applies to suspects.

Canadians arent American. So in this case, thats irrelivant.

    The truth about Canadian peacekeepers.

Yes, which means it is unconfirmed, unproven and not a fact. Yet you present it as such. Who tried to sue him? Why isnt the ICC sniffing around it, after all, Canada doesnt control the ICC, right?

Can you give any links that prove the guilt of the Canadian officer in question? Some proof would be nice. And no, the account of just one Serbian prison guard doesnt quite cut it.

Heavy drinking a way of life in the navy? Wow, I'm shocked and amazed... On a serious note though, I fear this is not too uncommon in the armed forces all over the world. Women in general have a hard time and I am sure there are examples of rape or bad treatment in other countries aswell. As for abuse of civilians while on a tour of duty. Thats again not a strictly Canadian issue I am afraid.

    Need the right word...

Hello all I am looking for the English word for what we in Sweden call "närskydd". Its a unit tasked with the ground defense of for example and airforce base and its surroundings here in Sweden. Their task is not to police other soldiers, so they are not MP's. They are basically infantry units with the goal of protecting the base area from infiltration, sabotage and attack. Any idea what they might be called in English?

    Rainbow Six the movie

Yes, Woo is good at making a certain type of movies. He should however stick to that type, as most other attempts usually turn out not so great. And IMHO, in the Rainbow Six universe there isnt a Woo type setting or atmosphere.

    Rainbow Six the movie

I am more inclined to believe it will be based on the book. And movies based on books can be good, especially if the books are OK to start with. True True

    Rainbow Six the movie

Actually the book was based on the game. The game was originally created by Red Storm Entertainment, at that time, Clancy's company. All storylines went through his approval, and he was a part of the dev team when it came to game content. He was presented with the game, Rainbow Six, and liked the idea. So he wrote a book based on the concept of the game that was at that time under development. So maybe the game wasnt done before the book, but the book WAS based on the game. Not according to Tom Clancy and Red Storm Entertainment.

    The Iraq thread 3

Sadly some of them ARE terrorists. Some are old supporters of Saddam and some are AQ cells. At any rate, I label both those groups as terrorists because their entire agenda revolves around terror.
