  1. Dear ladies and gentlemen, Short version: Can the mission editor's group limit be removed in ArmA 2, and will/has BIS consider(ed) this? And if this can/will not be done, why? This question has been burning on my tongue forever now, I've been searching around, and finally I got it answered. I was listening to the second interview on Sahrani Radio with Ivan Buchta, lead designer. He was so friendly to answer many of the community questions, and I had a very entertaining afternoon listening to it. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to it so I won't. The answer was, that he saw no reason to remove the group limit as 144(I think it was 144 yes?) groups is so much that you won't hit it anyway. On this point, I personally have to disagree. I like to make big missions, with many small flanking attacks, big AI forces attacking each other, or cover half/entire sahrani with enemies so you've a lot to do. With a strong dedicated server it's playable and a lot of fun. In those cases, the group limit was a huge hindrance. I had to make one group in which I had to put _all_ the snipers, observers, AT ambushers etc., and had to use stuff such as 'this disableAI "move"' to keep them from moving about. Long story short, it really limited in how many 'fluff' I could add such as little roadside patrols, single soldiers walking about. Now, I realise the group limit _may_ have been implemented to save performance, however ArmA 2 has many times been stated to be much more efficient on CPU resources. I am not very knowledgeable on game-developing, not by a long shot, but it doesn't sound overly hard to remove the group limit and replace it by something such as: "You have added 144 groups, adding more may impact performance." This, instead of a hard limit that is kind of like a brick wall. After all, the thing that makes BIS' games so great is their freedom! Â Please feel free to add your opinions. Some of you may be much more knowledgable than me on these things, so forgive me my ignorance. To an uneducated(Read:my) mind it seems like a rather simple change to make to the editor. But removing the group limit would really make my day, as well as a few other mission makers I know. Thanks for reading this behemoth of a post(I allways intend to make them short ) and be so kind to share your views! Kimmeh
  2. Hey all, The Russian UAV seems bugged for me. I made a player character, a flying Pchela UAV, a russian UAV control center, and the module which I sync'd with all three. Tried the same with the Predator UAV, works like a charm. But with the Pchela you cannot move the view with your mouse. It will look straight ahead for 2 seconds, switch to the right for 2 seconds, then switch back front. Somtimes it does right instead of left. The marker-making works, the moving orders work, but you just can't pan around the camera of the UAV. Anyone else have this problem? I'm curious if this is just me or a nasty bug. Kimmy
  3. Crazy Ivans is a coop clan that plays the Russia-side of the Chernarussian conflict. Plans to start this clan have been in development over a year ago and CI will be going official at the launch of ArmA 2. Our theme and things we offer: We are focussing on the Russian side. The backstory is that the Russian government does not like the interference of the US on Chernarus, and sends it's own force to guard Russian interests. The clan will simulate that Russian force gone rogue, while officially termed rebels by the Russian political figures, they do supply their own 'rogue' forces secretly. We have our own 24/7 ArmA 2 server. We have our own website, it is being worked on. We are however still looking for someone who is good with websites. We play serious coop, if you cannot muster the patience, dedication and maturity to be communicative, polite and cooperative, then you're welcome to go enjoy yourself someplace else. While we incorporate specially trained player-only teams(mainly 2-man sniper/reconnaisance/lasering teams), we will be focussing on a higher tactical scale. To achieve this we shall use AI infantry, armour and logistical squads to aid us, allthough the squads shall be controlled by humans. We hope that this will add to the immersive feeling of being on a live battlefield. Expect large-scale fights, inter-branch cooperation and a lot of communition and planning. We have our own custom-made missions tailored to our unique style of play. We will have so-called 'Live Ops' at pre-determined times and dates, which are uniquely made missions with lots of twists and surprises. We use official radio-communication protocols to a certain degree. Expect to receive training in correct radio terms during trainings and live operations, this will not only add to the efficiency of communication but also to the immersion of battle. We attempt to incorporate a small aspect of roleplay in our gameplay. The use of ranks, military terms, slang and abbreviations will be a part of this, as well as certain mission-elements such as propaganda warfare, and general caring for the fate of our soldiers. They're not just AI, they're our comrades! We will not attempt to replicate a certain real-life unit. One's watchful eye may notice elements from real military units, but we attempt to create our own style. We firmly believe that realism and creativity are not opposites. What we ask of our members: Being 18 years of age or older.(we try not to discriminate, so rare exceptions may be made) Owning a working microphone, and understanding, speaking as well as writing English comprehensively. Having a working MSN adress that we can contact you on. Sufficient time to play. Naturally we perfectly understand everyone has a private life to attend to, however to enjoy ourselves, we need other people to play with. Knowing when to follow instructions precisely, and when to show personal initiative. Willingness to learn, and being eager to help out new players. Respectful and friendly behaviour. Those names on the server's player-list are humans with feelings, not just letters. Eager to try new things/show initiative. This can range from suggesting new tactics and playing styles, to things such as scripting and website making. Trying to get friends and other players to join in, the more souls we have, the more options we have in our gameplay! To show a certain feeling for roleplay, we like to keep a certain atmosphere of comradeship and brotherhood. Small details such as occasionally adressing someone by their ranks, maybe mentioning to the officer in charge that your troops are getting blisters on their feet and want a truck, etcetera. You won't be forced to, but it'd be appreciated. Being an active part of our clan. Crazy Ivans is not 'owned' by the officers or leaders, they just are what they are for organisational and roleplay reasons. Everyone has the same rights in the clan, and CI is community property! You as a member are the heart and soul of the brotherhood, you are Crazy Ivans. What we do not ask or want of our members: To dedicate every minute of their spare time to us. To be an overobedient meat-puppet bowing to every wish of the officers. In fact, the only reason we have ranks is for organisational and roleplay reasons, all members are equal. Having to be reminded by others all day long to stick to the battleplan/tactics/radioprocedures and so forth. It's the officer's job to put knowledge into your skull, it is your job to keep it from leaking out. Being a tit in general, by things such as teamkilling, base trashing, swearing, bashing down every suggestion others make etcetera. Having problems with people who think different than they do. Having problems with people of a different nationality, culture, sexual preference, political orientation, etcetera. No racist jokes, no calling things gay, no commie-bashing, period. We are fully starting at the 505 Games' release of ArmA 2. Our current quick 'n dirty website is http://rohclan.webs.com/, here you can find our different branches and concepts. We truly hope that this enterprise will be a great success. As enthousiastic as we are about the game as well as our clan's concept, we know there will be bumps in the road, but with a sense of comradeship, humour and creativity, this clan can keep us entertained for many years to come! To sign up, e-mail kdwinter87@gmail.com, or add it to your msn and introduce yourself. Then you will be added to the list. Once ArmA 2 comes out, you shall all be warmly welcomed in the Crazy Ivans. Kimmeh P.s. If e-mail sharing on the forum is not allowed, I apologise, in that case a PM or thread reply will do. P.p.s. Feel free to ask questions in this thread if you're curious about something, or would just like to show your support or wish us good luck. I beg you to refrain from criticism or arguing, as that is not the purpose of this thread. However if you have something constructive to say or something you'd like to point out, please send me a PM. P.p.p.s.(yes I'll knock it off now) During our early development we used the name ''Rise of Heroes" but we decided it'd be a bit too corny, so we opted for the cornier name: Crazy Ivans, which also happens to be a Soviet submarine maneuver.
  4. I'll repeat this thread's title: Crazy Ivans, Rusfor international coop squad I made the important part bold. We might play 30 mins of Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch once every few weeks for giggles and to tweak our reflexes a bit but otherwise we're serious coop only.

    Pchela UAV bug

Bumping, I'd like to see this issue resolved or otherwise at least know that others have the same problem so I can submit it as a bug.
  6. I'm afraid I don't know who you are BF2boy. And thanks for the good luck wishes from the TG people, you guys are my favourite coop community that's for sure! Kim
  7. When in a forest or town I like to put em at Aware and at the 'copy my posture' stance. When in a relatively open area with little cover I prefer Danger and 'copy my posture', or sometimes I force them prone and put them to crouch when I want a person to move up. When I'm trying to preserve stealth I just force em prone and at hold fire. I have tried using the commander view to make each guy go to a certain tree and set their facings, micro-managing if you will, but found it to be highly ineffective in a forest, maybe its better in the open? Just make 'em stick in formation, at Aware and Copy-Stance, formation Vee worked wonders in forest fighting though. It'll take us a while getting used to but the AI has great potential, but it actually takes skill and practice to be good with it. Me and the other Crazy Ivans members are still experimenting lots, as AI-support is a big part of our operations. And yeah the AI is waaay more likely to survive when defending, so when attacking with AI and you want it to be fair, give them some tactical support(arty/airstrike/armour) or great numbers. Love the AI so far though and I haven't noticed any vehicles going off-road and bumping into a tree repeatedly, they all behave brilliant for me! Kimmy
  8. Again my compliments on your guide dslyecxi, just like the previous one an outstanding piece of work. I'll recommend my Crazy Ivans to have a read through it before heading out into the bushbush that is Chernarus. Bravo! Kimmy

Poll, old school CTI or warfare?

Hey! No commie bashing! Voted other as I prefer coop. Kim
  10. Mhm once everyone has the game and we formed up our training program and got the show on the road, joint ops sound like a very fun idea!

Anyone else sticking with Arma 1?

    Nope. That is all.

    Arma 2 - Female Characters?

All this talk about body movement, physiology and legs... :D Just a female face skin and a female voice in the options menu, that'll do! Maybe BIS could throw it into a patch some day?
  13. Thanks Jay, we will see each other on the field of battle soon. The last few days people signed up like we were giving away gold bars, so I think we'll have a lovely time in ArmA 2.
  14. You were running, at speed, at night. Even a heavy-metal concert junkie would've heard you. Try to move at walking speed, either crouched or standing, behind them, you should be able to get pretty close. Sneaking up to melee-distance on a moving target is nigh-impossible anyway, especially at night in nature with twigs and leaves everywhere.

    Arma 2 - Female Characters?

All I ask for is giving the game in the default faces selection one female face, and one female voice(like Amy in ArmA 1). Screw the rest of the model, animations or whatever, the combat vests usually obscure the female forms anyway. A face in the default selection, and a voice in the default selection, that's all. However _maybe_ I am just being a whiner coz it's allready there. xD I didn't play the German version so I can't tell.

    Demo anytime soon?

This thread will probably get locked rather quickly, but I also don't see a dedicated demo-thread that's allowed anyway. Maybe a stickied demo thread would be an idea? And yeah I can't wait for it too! :) Kimmy
  17. Sounds like I'm going to love this game. Now this is what we wanted, an opponent that defeats us through tactics and human-like behaviour(as far as possible). The MP missions I made for a few coop clans were allways fair situations. When you had to attack something, you'd have enough resources to do it, and enough air or indirect fire support to kill the enemy. I don't make missions to present people a challenge, I make missions to make people feel like they're in the thick of it, it has to be immersive. And it seems like the sf-squad-vs-armoured-infantry-brigade-syndrome is about to end. Huzzah! > :)

    Arma 2 - Female Characters?

I lol'd. :D It's a game silly! And it just feels more.. immersive if you can play a character of your own gender. It's not like it bothers me that much to play a male model, but you'll just identify less with your character and feel less in the thick of it. It's like in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 you could play the campaign as a female character, and it just became much more immersive for me. Suddenly I felt like the butch chick in the combat suit fighting the terrorists. It's what makes the difference for me between having the feeling you're playing a game, or actually being sucked into it. It's a personal-immersion thing. =) But of course others dislike it, so I'll just have to respect that, just like BIS's decision not to incorporate female soldiers in the game.

    Arma 2 - Female Characters?

They had a female face in the original OFP(right?), a female voice in ArmA 1, I hoped ArmA 2 would have both. >.< Ah well. I share your pain Vampy. =) Kimmeh
  20. It does ring a bell somewhere... >.> oh dear
  21. Thank you kindly, nice choice of words, "manifesto", makes me think of Marx. =) Kimmy
  22. I'm afraid I'm going to have to let you down Takko, my name is "Kimmeh" in-game. :)
  23. Rise of Heroes is a coop clan that plays the Russia-side of the Chernarussian conflict. Plans to start this clan have been in development over a year ago and RoH will be going official at the launch of ArmA 2. However, we are allready seeking comrades for the cause before the launch, as the hardest part of starting a clan is the beginning. With this course of action, we hope to give the clan a good kickstart, and a starting base of members that can act as the spine of the organisation, while we slowly gain more members to make up the rest of the body. Now for some useful information, such as our theme and things we offer: We will be focussing on the Russian side. Ranking system?

I'm rather happy there's no statistic-recording or whatever in ArmA. I hate games like BF2, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes etc. because of their ranking systems. If SupCom didn't have a ranking system I might actually play it against other people. See, I don't want to put copious amounts of time into a game to avoid looking ridiculous on the stat-board and have random people bashing me coz of my newbie score(until I get better at the game, then it's time to slowly erase the newbie-statistics). Too much pressure behind it. And as said before it's behind industry standard, as in, it's "modern" to have a ranking system for a game. However not all 'progress' is an improvement over the old situation. I personally am really glad that ArmA and ArmA 2 don't use it, it improves people's behaviour(no score-whoring) and keeps it relaxed, without people using glitches to get that oh-so-needed kill/death ratio or whatever. Also, this ELITE B MAN guy had a very funny introduction with his first thread and gave me and someone else at least a good laugh. While opening threads simply to argue may be a tad provocative, I cannot help but agree with him that the mods do seem a tad over-controlling sometimes. I hope I am allowed to voice that opinion in this respectful way, without receiving anger or a 'warning' in reply. Anyway, no to ranking systems. Thanks BIS for not following the herd! Kimmy

    Harder to hit enemies?

When playing airsoft, once I did it once with full gear, the thought of rolling around didn't even occur in my mind. It's just unpractical, you could easily lose gear, hurt yourself and whatnot. Rolls are nice when wearing a Gi(the judo/karate suit), not when having lots of metal objects strapped onto your body.
