It was one of the most frustrating things in OFP, at least for me. For example, i am helicopter pilot and i have AI gunner. Let's say we encounter 2 T72s and 2 BMPs. Gunner starts to identify targets, but when i move my mouse over BMP and give the order to lock the target, that order comes through only when my gunner finishes with target reckognizing (all four of them). It's even worse when there's shilka, because by the time the gunner is done with his thing, our helicopter is allready full of holes... i would like to see it fixed/improved.

Of course they are after money too, but can you remember the game that lasted so long on your HDD? I can't. Why? Because BIS made OFP to last, they WANTED to give us a game we would play (and mod) for years, otherwise they would just do what other developers (and distributors) do: give us a half-finished game with no modding or editing capabilities...they knew what they were doing then, and i think they know what they are doing now. Huh, did i say all that?
-
A quote from Maciej Turski (LEM): "We heard of the great OFP succes in Poland, so we decided to contact Bohemia Interactive, and finally we agreed at E3." I wonder, how many other distributors contacted IDEA games and BIS, and came to an agreement...

Hehe, it wouldn't be bad to visit Czech republic again, and what reason would be better than ArmA (and girls and beer and...)
-
Yeah, if we just answered the question "How realistic do you expect ArmA to be?", this thread would die very soon...it's better to have some discussion, and let's face it, the word "realistic" is a magic word for OFP players, it's unavoidable to have some speculation in a thread like this...
-
Yes, i think that would be great. It could be something like this: you get wounded, then a helicopter comes and flies you over to some kind of medical base (which is about 1-2 kms away from the battlefield), then you get healed and shipped back to the battlefield (by helicopter or M113 or ...) I think that would be great "punishment" for careless players, to be away from the battle for a while. I know this is not going to be in ArmA, but it's nice to daydream...
-
Yes, that would be odd. That would imply there's no inertia. In a game that simulates ballistics of the bullit and whatnot, there's no inertia....hm, just doesn't add up, does it?

Happy birthday Operation Flashpoint! And thanks BIS. Although i don't generally drink, i'll drink one for you. Cheers!

My biggest problem regarding islands is getting myself internet connection with more bandwidth, because i sure hope there will be some great (and big) islands made by community and i want to download them all Edit: sorry for OT, i got carried away
-
I hope it will be a little bit more realistic than OFP when it comes to weapon sway, recoil and equipment system.
-
Oh yeah, same here.

The one with the "cross" crosshair is with a soldier carrying M60 or something like that...?
-
Yeah, you're right about shadows. I was confused by the angle of the camera...analysing the picture(s) (after i've seen other posts) made me realise that the camera was ~50 centimeters above the ground which, of course, resulted in shadows not being parallel because of perspective. If the camera was, let's say, 40 meters above the ground, than shadows would be more or less parallel. I checked it in 3D Studio Max (i tried to recreate the same conditions seen in the photos) as well as in OPF editor (first on foot and then in helicopter, using two traffic posts). In conclusion: shadows are approved by me, BIS; keep up the good work! @KyleSarnik: it's not very nice to say that some members of the forum (including myself) are stupid. Discussion about the shadows was very civilized, why not keep it that way...?
-
I was hoping that there would be more than two, ah well, we have to be happy with what we get...
-
I think you're wrong there. The fact that the sun is 150,000.000 km away from us makes beams that come from the sun practically parallel (although they are not 100% parallel). That means shadows have to be parallel too, no metter how far apart are the objects or what is your position in relation to those objects, as long as you're not far away from them. If that picture was taken from a 100 km distance, shadows wouldn't be parallel because of perspective (if you look down the long road you can notice that "effect"). But from that distance, shadows have to be parallel.

I understand what you're saying and maybe there's something to it (about different zooms in FDF and WGL). Also, i watched your video (very nice, btw ), and as you said, AR-15 has very light recoil. Sorry that i'm talking about recoil in weapons sway topic, but i think they go hand in hand, don't you? Those two things are equaly important for realistic weapons behaviour in games IMO.
-
Well, i just tried Ambush mission from original OFP in WGL mod. I like the sway, but i think recoil is better (more realistic) in FDF mod, although i really don't know how much recoil you get from M16. Lets make it a tie: WGL sway and FDF recoil!
-
You're right. I just played FDF's mod SP mission Battlefield (just for a little reminder ) and yes, sway feels just right, and recoil too. I wouldn't mind if it was like that in ArmA.
-
IMO, amount of sway should be somewhere between OFP and Brothers in arms (where there was a little too much of it, i think). Of course, it all depends on a weapon you have and are you in a prone position etc.
-
Oh, i think i understand now. What you are saying is that you don't like that "gap" between moving your mouse and actually getting in the "mouse-look-mode"...right? And the reason for this is you feel like you are on 2D desktop if your view doesn't move the very moment you move your mouse? Then you'll be saved by ArmA. I am glad a feature that we all bitch about will make you play ArmA, and i think you're not alone. Just don't give up on playing. Too bad you have to play with regular mouse look, IMO ironsights are something you just have to use if you want to hit anything further than 50 meters. Look at the bright side: you've just introduced a new style of playing in OFP. Btw, what is now called inverted mouse look was a default setting in the first FPS games, atleast in Doom, Doom2 and Duke Nukem 3D, if i remember correctly...
-
If you invert your mouse it is inverted in crosshair mode as well as in ironsights mode. Mouse forward = pitch down; mouse backward = pitch up. I use it aswell. So what's the problem?
-
I'm sure that all of us, when we talk to enyone about PC games (and not just PC), mention to others our fav game, OFP, and soon to be our fav, ArmA. I take it as something perfectly normal.
-
Since Game 2 is only a working title, it may be possible to call it ArmA 2, but i'm not sure that BIS will do that because Game 2 will be a revolutionary game and won't have much to do with ArmA i guess.

A question regarding streaming terrain: Does it apply only for buildings and objects in general or also for AI soldiers on the island? How does this technology work anyway?
