Mmmm... Beer! I was actually considering to go out to my favorite pub for a pint or two. But in the light of Placebo's post, I think I'll stick to the supply in my fridge. AFTER the FN100, I think I gotta have few calmdowners there! Too bad they don't serve the "Celebration Ale". Edit!!1 For Placebo, and the British dudes/beer fanatics out there, I think the brand for Celebration Ale is the Fuller's. Edit number 2: BTW, Placebo, congrats for the wedding. Guess where I was for my honeymoon in 2002?! In LONDON! Great 'cerveza' there!

In case you need another mirror, here it is: Arma Trailer - right click - save as... Gonna keep it there for a "while".

^ I'd say that the M249 is not a HMG, if you mean Heavy Machine Gun. It is a Light machine gun. HMGs must be something like tripod mounted .50 cals. In case of LMG, it indeed is possible to lift it by one hand. At least the Finnish army's machine gun. But to operate it with one hand... not feasible.

Woohoo! New stuff out in the blog today! A short story again and few pics. Too bad Frank lost his truck... but how the hell he managed to do that!?

I personally hope that the game is running with fluid-like smoothness! It seemed that original OFP didn't run well even when you upgraded madly your computer. I sure hope that the gameplay would be smooth, not a bit "jerky" as with OFP. My friends asked me whether we should have a LAN party... I said; no LAN parties until Armed Assault is out. So, during the meantime, I'm gonna kill my time with the marvelous world of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.. So, please, BIS, save me from suffering and let me travel through your divine landscapes in ArmA!

Shin, maybe I didn't quite follow your point on RAIDing RAM-disks? Wouldn't you RAID in case of extended reliability (fault tolerance) or speed (stripe)? I don't really see the real-world scenario where you would actually RAID ram-drives. RAM drives should be very fast compared to any physical disk-setup and probably they would be used as real fast alternative in case you need to access some project files (videoediting, whatever) in almost realtime. Okay, maybe a bit off-topic to technical side ..

After a careful consideration, I dare to post a humble opinion which kind of crossed my mind: Any day when new Bohemia game is released is a birthday to all of us. I sure hope that ArmA is out due christmas. No better gift for us, Mr. Spanel(s)! Thank you for wasting your time reading this meaningless post!

Probably get drunk and admire the box and booklet in my favorite local pub. Then, at morning, quickly buy a new copy to replace the lost one forgotten somewhere previous night! That's 'cause I'm not quite sure whether I really have the guts to start playing it right away... after all the waiting, I have to "adapt" to the harsh fact of reality that it is finally in my hands!! Actually, I probably try it right away, call everybody about it, then play more and ..

It would be really great if the new engine could take advantage of new graphics accelerators and so on. Hope to see proper DX9 support, but especially improved framerates and smoother action in the game. OFP1 is a bit jerky control-wise (always been). Also OFP1 does not seem to get much performance improvement when upgrading display adapter or CPU. I think we are going to get a much improved game engine, but not much new gameplay elements. By that I mean; the basic functionality, actions and controls in the game are probably the same.

OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?
KimTuomi replied to Cpt. FrostBite's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
As always, Babelfish did an excellent job: "Paul Statham, of the Czech developer Bohemia Interactive, expressed itself in an interview to operation Flashpoint 2. The Gameplay is to become still more realistic in the comparison to the predecessor and therefore the software software-Schmiede the play only for PC will publish. An Arcade adjustment of the war simulation excludes Paul Statham completely - finally realism is the largest plus of the play. Otherwise the successor with mad diagram and new play elements are to convince." EDIT: dmakatra + others... DOH!!! -
OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?

I don't know about you but I personally and officially started to drink beer! And smoking in chain... Darn, BIS is starting to affect my health now... It is obviously clear, that the armedassault.com's index.htm or default.htm is just erased or renamed to something else and the Next Step of that site is literally armed already. Now, can we figure out the cryptic filename for the upcoming default web page??! -

Because of the situation of Armed Assault website, I must quote our very own Jordan here: So it begins.... -
OFP2 and "armed assault" - what's up?

Long time, no post from me This popped in my mind so let's give it a try (for fun and excitement, at least) Consider this: For a long time, a website/project have existed which is called Independence Lost. No info about that. None, whatsoever, right? Fast forward to current situation, and "OFP2" stuff out. Codemasters logo removed from Flashpoint2.com. Armed Assault site up, no CM logo there either. Maybe, just maybe, back in 2003 or so, BIS realized they were losing their... well, Independence. Maybe they even back then indicated and wanted to tell us something?? Conspiracy theory to rule them all! But I am certain: we will have something big this week! WE MUST. The guys (Marek/Paul/Ondrej??) did not go to E3 to show pics which they by purpose leaked out to forum with nick Jordan. -
Make it so that soldiers CAN'T run all the time, breathing heavily. Somewhere there must be a limit! In a normal situation, I think not every soldier is a top-trained commando performing extreme athletics. Usually, I think, they are regular guys put in a very unregular situation. Sometimes, it is a requirement to jump briefly over trenches or maybe shelling holes etc.. I wouldn't consider it as jumping either; it's more like leaping or so?

Heyy!! Someone else have noticed that Speedtree demo! I was thinking myself that it looks pretty good! I could easily imagine something like that in OFP. What comes to colors, NO WAY any Q3/Unreal Tournament/FarCryish candy-colored toy-graphics. I want to see OFP2 with gritty, war-torn color space. Keep the palette about the same it is now in OFP1. For some reason, OFP1 seems to still lag seriously even with top-of-the-line computers. I would love to have good view distance like 1500 meters with proper LoD, without objects vanishing in horizon suddenly. Good nature modelling and down-to-earth experience is good for OFP. When playing single missions, that experience is very good to give the proper immersion in game. I have mentioned this here before; moving trees and dynamic wind/weather would be good. Isn't it great when you can't actually tell (even in single player?) when there is going to be a stronger wind, rain and maybe snow/hail? And of course the hail hitting the chassis of a vehicle... oh man! With tanks, I think it would cause almost any sound because of thick armor. Soundwise; wouldn't you love the vivid sound of bullets hitting obstacles in Omaha Beach in movie Saving Private Ryan? Good realistic, maybe a bit emphasized sound effects with dynamic range is also good. Explosion delays are even now very cool.

I didn't bother to watch the rally game being played forever by 3 year old, we had more important stuff to do like drinking beer and barbecue (sorry, offtopic, BUT): it seemed for me to be quite good terrain engine and by general overview, it seemed to be unrestricted. Even my friend told me that he *knew* I would be saying the thing.. thing about OFP I never actually played IGI (tried it briefly) so didn't actually check out "how deep the rabbit hole goes".
-
I agree! BIS made a simple but very effective restrictions for OFP1 maps: water. It's easy to accept; you are on an island! Those invisible barriers are stupid. I am not into car racing games at all, but my friend's son was playing a demo of Xpand Rally or something. There I realized that the terrain engine might be very, very suitable for OFP2. It seems to be good, unrestricted and good looking. Also the graphics is not polished to be candy-dandy. I want my OFP to be a bit "harsh" looking, graphics-wise and especially color-wise!

New release date worldwide: Spring 2006?
KimTuomi replied to TheLemon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
"Great" news..... -
I would like to see a graphics which have the similar "gritty" look that is also in OFP1. Of course that can be made a bit better looking especially with new effects available on powerful graphics cards. I am not sure whether I want to see some sterile "clean" graphics of FarCry etc! Trees and forest areas could be sometimes a little thicker giving more cover there. Also fields could have a high plants which provide also cover especially when crawling. Even better yet; the trees and plants could swing in wind and that would also be a nice effect to have a new parameter for setting windiness on a scenario/mission. Now when thunder storm comes up, it would give a really nice visual to see trees bending lightly and grass doing waves in open areas... oh man... Animals can bring a nice additional immersion to a living dynamic world. You couldn't be quite sure whether there is a sniper crawling through high grass or something else. Explosions could give a better lighting effects. Not those Hollywood-style gasoline explosions but a bit more effect could be added there. Those in addition of better models of characters and vehicles!

I never got into any trouble literally, but recently I was in a kind of funny and embarrasing situation when talking on a mobile phone with my friend. I was at work, during lunch hour or so and walked through the main lobby (where security personnel etc are in) talking about mortar strikes and planning an air strike in a predefined location. So there I was minding my own business but didn't realize that people can hear what I was talking and now in the era of great terrorism fear I noticed I got some interesting and confused looks from other people. I immediately figured out why that happened, went outside, light a cigarette and laughed in the phone as I told my friend what just happened. We were planning a multiplayer session just then.

Have you tried this so that the laser-gunner in the chopper is in the same team as the one, who you are targeting for? I just posted a problem that I noticed and to me, it seems that these two might be related: Helicopter gunner/pilot problem -kt
-
I noticed that if you enter a helicopter with your co-op friend in a multiplayer game, you cannot assign targets to the gunner. Also, when both are in the copter, the gunner will lose the radar view in chopper. Everything works just fine if both are in the same team, though! I wonder if the previously mentioned laser-targeting problem relates to this also: Laser in mp not working
-
Okay thanks! That knowledge helps me a lot! We are arranging a LAN party this week with a custom scenario. We require that helicopters need to be reloaded before they are effective killing machines. Indeed, they are completely out of ammo and fuel when starting mission... I will also give a try to the HE-ammunition reloading problem tonight. Hope that OFP2 will be much, much better compared to OFP1 with all the strange bugs
-
It seems that helicopter ammunition cannot be reloaded from ammo trucks? Should this work? I am not sure whether I have ever tried that! If I drive a fuel truck beside a helicopter, the pilot can choose "refuel at truck" but with ammo trucks, the "rearm" option is not there.

Ah finally I can join the happy folks here!! Yesterday I found the crappy briefcase... yeah and it's real easy to miss! As a small hint for you desperate guys out there: go through every picture with determination and read aloud what you see in each of them. Look carefully EVERY single one of them and consider WHAT you see. Too bad that the funny site is not so funny afterall. Nice pics to see, but that's it (for me). I enjoyed most the really-old BI website presented there. Nice to see some real development in OFP graphics from the old days
