    Manhattan in OFP

Consider these two pics. This is not to be taken the wrong way. I do not want a "let's fly into the scyscrapers" mission. That is utterly disgusting. My point with these pics is that this can be modelled quite easily, and would not tax the CPU, because a huge building could be as low as 5 poly's. They would of course not be playable, but there could be street battles and heli chases around the buildings. It could be quite fantastic. Konyak

If BIS could answer one thing

I've wondered about this for some time, as have others, and it came up again in the thread about tanks having smoke screen launchers. Q: Does OFP AI loose sight of the player or other AI's, if they dump a smoke screen to obscure the enemys vision? I'm talking about after the AI has spotted the other player. Is there any such thing in OFP, that the AI, just can't see the player again, or is he imprinted on the AI's "radar" forever? I'd love to know, and we can only be sure if the answer comes from you. Thank you, Konyak
  3. How do you lean around a corner while prone? If you are prone, all the leaning possible has already been done, and the only thing you can move is your head, and that is very VERY well acheived in OFP by holding down ALT. Konyak PS @ Hidden: Darn right, I can never go back to the visual aids
  4. I can see why many would like this to be possible. I wouldn't mind the ability myself. I always play in vet mode, but recently I turned off the aiming reticule and 3rd person view to make it as realistic as possible. Now I can no longer cheat when behind an object, and it is much more tense and gratifying. The only way to peek around is to go prone, and crawl until your head is far enough to peek. Then I use alt and mouse to swivel my head around and it works fine. The only drawback is immobility in this position, and not being able to shoot around the corner. Konyak

If BIS could answer one thing

Thanks guys. So what you are saying, if you are spotted by AI, and you throw down smoke, they will have fully accurate shots at you, right through the smoke, for 30 seconds. That sound about right? So to be able to practically use it, you throw down the smoke, hide for 30 seconds, so that when you run out of your pinned down spot, the AI will not be able to see you, until you run in to the open where the smoke was billowing out, until about 7 seconds ago, and is clearing nicely now Let me put it this way, has anyone effectively given AI pursuers the ditch, using smoke? Not luck based, but solid evasion. Thanks, Konyak

    XMas Trees

That is just brilliant BIS I landed my chopper in a clearing amongst these cheerful trees, just before the sun came up. Standing there I felt compelled to put my M-16 on my shoulder. As the thwump-thwump of the chopper blades faded, the air was filled with a new sound. At first I thought it was crickets in the early hours, but then I noticed it was coming from the trees. Going closer, the sound was clearer, and it was not crickets, but a ticking. The boxes around the trees were ticking! My illusion of this peaceful clearing was shattered and the sound of my beating heart filled my ears.. I ran. The whole place froze around me as I ran towards the chopper. My feet felt like they had lead boots on and thoughts raced through my mind. "this is just a game!.. this is just a game!.. " Suddenly a booming voice came down upon me and said "Yes, it IS just a game, but it's the Gosh darn GOTY, and don't you forget it!" Then the voice changed into a gentle female voice and said "Konyak.. Konyak?" I opened my eyes and saw the familiar white walls of my room and the door with the small window on it was open. Denise stood there with a paper cup and a smile on her face.. She had a red Santa cap on. "Medication time.. " she said, "and Merry Christmas BIS" Ok, that's not entirely accurate of what happened, but seriously. BIS, you guys made a legend with OFP, and I hope you have a fabulous Christmas and a very happy new year! Konyak

    Serious stuff

Actually, I'd have agreed with you when it first came out, and posted about how I thought the sounds were perhaps too thin and too realistic (assuming they accurately depict the real thing), but after having played Red Hammer with these sounds, with headphones, they sound really good. I think Satchell did a great job, and when it is done, I will most likely never go back to the original sounds. Theres things he needs to fix, and is probably working on right now. He said he'd try and get an upgrade out before Christmas, and I wish him all the luck! Konyak

    Serious stuff

The hottest topic on the OFP forums these days, apart from some offtopic anti US flame war that nobody should waste time on, is Satchells sound addon beta that just came out. This topic just got closed by BIS moderators, and that is one terrific blow to us that have been waiting for the SDK. This is the Addon board, and the subject is dead on target. This was made by Satchell using only his ability to produce and convert sound, just the same as some of us like to retexture. Why was it shut down? Did this addon insult BIS' feelings, as it replaced a lot of their work, and in many cases improved it? I hope they can handle it, because this creativity they have stomped on is the thing that keeps games like OFP alive. BIS really needs to make sure they have the right attitude towards their community. If we change something, it is not out of disrespect for their work, but to tailor certain aspects to various tastes or preferrences that the community cannot expect the developers to spend time on. I'm sure many of us would like to know what is going on. Konyak

    OPERATION FLASHPOINT P3D HACKED!!!!

What is all the commotion about? All he said was you could import .p3d files and view them. If you can't get the model to work in OFP, then this changes nothing. I have Maya 4, but I'm not interested in spending time making models that may quite well be unusable for OFP. When importing into OFP becomes possible, making all the animations and features of the model work, then we can all get excited. And the you can send it to the pro's, like Devil, and he could make us all something really cool, like a laser designator Sorry Devil, couldn't resist Konyak
  10. Guys, Christmas is coming, and BIS have implied that they might release some goodies for us around Christmas (at least Simor Reed has). So, we all have to be reeeeeeal good, you know? Because kid's that don't behave don't get anything from Santa! (wierd, you could spell Satan with those letters) So, these next weeks, everybody please be polite, don't use f**k, ####### or any other such word when referring to BIS or Codemasters It's ok to ask for things, just do it nice. Serious stuff

The average life expectancy of a sensible thread on these boards is about 6 hours. That said, we are off topic. However, we seem to want to hear from BIS on this thread closing. Since the thread has evolved into other things, I might as well comment on those. GFX707 claims to have a legal copy, and as such has no fade problems. *Then* he mentions he has the Gunslinger addon, which has reportedly triggered Fade on many machines. I don't know how many people use Gunslingers editor upgrade, but I for one wont come near it I would like to contribute some constructive critisism on Satchells sound mod though. The most serious one which isn't based on a matter of taste, is the fact that when a tank or heli or any loud vehicle is driving close by, turning your head will produce strange results. The sound travels normally from ear to ear, but at a certain point, the sound dies completely, even if the heli or tank is right next to you. Mostly this happens when you turn your head to the right of the sound. Also, if a heli is approaching, and you are a good distance away from it, you can hear it coming, but if you turn your head away from it, the sound is drastically reduced. This is unrealistic, as a sound that far away, yet that loud, has very little direction sense. Don't know if Satchell can controll this very accurately. Another thing is the sound of guns that are perhaps 100 meters from you, firing at you.. You hardly hear any gunshots at all. I have no real life experience of this, but I have been close to guns fired, and you can hear a definate bang 3-400 meters away. At least from a shotgun AK's and M16's may have deliberately reduced bangs That said, firing most of the guns seems rather dull as well. They hardly produce any sense of power, and the volume of the sound is very low, and very crisp. No base. Finally, the clank clank clank of the tanks sounds a bit strange, more like a jackhammer in slo-mo. Handgranade is also very weak sounding. I have lit more impressive explosives on New Years Eve that are wrapped in paper and kids play with them Ok, this all sounds bad, I know, but it is all in the right direction, and I really want this sound pack to be as good as it can be, just like OFP in general. So now Satchell finds himself in BIS' shoes, and he get's pestered with nuances like these But I know this is a beta and I know he has the patience and ability to perfect this undertaking.. I hope my observations help toward that. Good luck Satchell, Konyak
  12. You could paint the Mona Lisa with a set of paintbrushes that would cost about as much as OFP, but that doesn't mean you can paint the Mona Lisa. Well done Kegetys, it takes a Finn to know what a car that has been in snow looks like Keep up the good work! Konyak

    Who finds Red Hammer....

I think I had about 3 teammates left after Fuel station, and one bought it pretty soon after we hit Tyrone. We were pinned on the ground and I couldn't see any NME's, but did see one muzzle flash in the first garden behind a wall, and contrary to my usual stay low and play smart tactic, I got up, ran towards the garden, and pitched a grenade as far as I could. It hit dead on target and when I got there, 5 Civ's in a heap, and we had to get two or three more in houses Next mission was great, long and cautious, not amazlingly hard though, at least not the final airport assault. So far, a very good 5 pounds worth Konyak
  14. Hi, I am trying to make a script in which a tank drives slowly with the turret scanning around, and the lights on the tank come on and off now and then. I can't find any command in the reference guide as to how to make AI turn on the lights !! Anyone know the magic word? Please? Konyak

    Horn in MP

This is a silly bug, and should be easy to fix. In MP, if you have a vehicle equipped with a horn, press left mouse button to activate, other people will not hear it. Even if they are sitting in the passenger seat, or right in front of the bumper. Important? Well, I have actually needed to honk at teammates that stand in the middle of the road when I need to get by, so yeah Konyak

    Horn in MP

You are missing the point. Why have a horn that nobody can hear? Besides, I play the game as I do things IRL, and in IRL I don't run people over that I consider my teammates It quickly degrades the game to a "what'choo do that fo foo? He TK´d me!" Then.. BANG!! "that was for running me over back then!" .. and so on. Konyak
  17. That's what I had been doing, but it's a stupid way of doing it. That way you have tank crews turning out and in as if someone keeps farting inside the tank, just to turn the lights on. Besides that, they move differently in different modes. Anyway, they have the unitname action "LIGHTON" command, so it should be possible. I find it hard to believe that this is something nobody knows how to do. Please enlighten us Konyak
  18. Thanks, but not sure if that worked. I made waypoints and put that line in the activation field, but the tank had it's lights on when it came by. Seems it has its lights on when in safe behaviour, and off in stealth behaviour. In safe behaviour, it wouldn't turn the lights off even if I told it to with action "LIGHTOFF". Any ideas? Konyak

    LMFAO

LOL! This is funny to me because I had a K6-2 500 mhz. and I *hate* those things It is the crappiest piece of CPU ever made and I cringe seeing that it's still on the market. It compares to about 233 mhz PII, *maybe* 300 mhz, not an iota more. Glad to see OFP killed an AMD K6! Konyak

    Kolgujev

They moved the island SW of the island to the NE. Now then, what island is Malden based on? These two are both in the Mediterranian sea, so perhaps Malden isn't too far away. Did your source say anything about that Kegetys? And does anyone have any pictures of the valley on Kirk, down by St. Pierre? Fun to see the real place. Might have to go there one day Konyak

    A new town !

Blackhawk, your town looks really nice. Authentic. That Red Summer town is not very well done, since it has no trees or shrubs or lawns. It looks like a burnt down prison camp. I would be interested in a map of your town. Like a road map, show the extent of it and it's design. Have anything like that? Maybe just a screencap from the mission editor. Anyway, nice work. Does it need any addon to work, like Gunslinger or something that people have Fade problems with? Konyak
  22. How's the upload going? Just keeping this warm So did these sounds come from other games? If so, which ones? Konyak

    Shut Jo Mouth, Foo!

Sid, Your post is remarkable. Absolutely. You told Devil his work is sloppy and then you called him a liar. All this from his biggest fan The reason we "complain" about his so called new vehicles is because his version of retexturing can be taught to anyone, including you, in about an hour. It takes no special talent, and takes no time to do. Many more people who frequent this board, know how to do it, but don't because it doesn't produce results that are up to OFP, and the general publics, standards. So what? So, every person on this board takes an hour or so to adjust the hue on their favorite vehicle and posts it as a "new vehicle". How great would that be? A: We'd have so many versions of "a Police UAZ", for instance, that it would be impossible for anyone to keep up. B: More seriously, I feel the OFP community needs to maintain a standard that must not be far from BIS standard. Why? Because if they release the SDK, it will be because they feel we will improve and develop the look and feel of the game, and not shame it with shoddy work. There are some very good modelers and texure artists among us, who have and will produce excellent work for OFP. I just don't think Devil is helping OFP too much with his "efforts". If I thought it was harmless fun, or "cute", then I wouldn't be wasting time on this. Konyak

    Software Development Kit News

Exocet, that may give us some addons that we would like, but imagine if there wasn't a mission editor. We all know the freedom of it, and that is what we want in the models and terrain. Not because we imagine it could be cool, but we HAVE had it in other games. Games that have nothing like the possibilities of OFP. Getting 10 addons more will do nothing to quell the hunger of the community. This game is about freedom, it's in the gameplay, it's in the mission editor. Not being able to have all the freedom it offers, is simply driving the creative minds among us, bonkers! I for one would pay for these tools, and I know many would. Has BIS considered this option? Winter Kolgujev

Could anyone tell me where I can DL the winter vehicle pack someone made? I have looke at the major editing sites, but most of them are having server probs, and even then, I don't know if they have it. Thanks, Konyak
