ArmA Queens Gambit Packshot Winner ????

sure looks that way. The rating system was bugged from the start though. A simple click once on the one you like (and log your IP so you couldn't vote again) system would have been better - not the weird system whereby all your positive votes (from a very large ArmA community) could be wiped out by some idiot repeatedly clicking on 1 star.

I'm not so annoyed at the winner... I'm annoyed at the standard of judging... the results after all were supposed to be announced on Monday. Anyone who's familiar with Photoshop can see how little effort is required to produce results similar to the winning packshot. How to win in under 10 minutes yeah... an I know I forgot the lens flare, but my subconcious mind rebelled against using it.

I e-mailed New Media Maze (the PR company 505 Games are using to promote the expansion and run the website). Apparently they have been unable to get a firm decision from 505 Games, but are hoping to announce the results over the next day or two.

Thanks. The idea was to come up with something that could adapted to form the final packaging. We don't really yet know enough about the expansion to put anything final together. The supplied image assets were a bit sparse in that regard too. We know one of the new campaigns features mercenaries, yet no quality new screenshots of these units were supplied which people could have used. As for my own design, I reckon that the newspaper part could easily be moved slightly and adapted to contain a lot of textual info plus a pic or two... Likewise the postcard could feature content from the game instead of a nice pic of Paraiso I enjoyed doing it a lot though and stayed up way too late last night doing it. There are some really great entries. Sadly there are also a few too many which are simply a single screenshot from the game (usually "taken" from the ArmA Photography thread) with the logo slapped on the top. I'm also confused by the number of entries that look like they're designed for a square(ish) format like CD jewel case.

Since there are a few other examples of peoples work in this thread, I thought I'd post my 2nd attempt, and also give this thread a bump - to encourage more people to join in. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.malcolm3/Queens_v2.jpg Edit: Image too big

I'm not sure what all the bitching is about. Simply take this for what it is: An opportunity to have fun creating something, with the possibility of winning something.

Tactical Guide available in print form

4 to 5 days is what's quoted on their site for printing, due to the print on demand side of things. Then a couple of days for shipping. The last time I ordered on June 14 and received it on June 25. This was due to it being the first order of the retail version (and not the test version). Things get quicker when it's properly in their system

I don't understand Bob. What do you mean? If you want a copy then simply order one. I'm from the UK - I did the design and layout of the print TTP and I've received two copies without any hassle. Lulu's print on demand system means your copy is printed and shipped from the nearest printer Lulu uses which handles a particular format. UK orders for full colour letter format are printed and shipped from Seville in Spain. For UK orders the colour version works out at 22.03 pounds and the mono one is 11.01 pounds. Postage costs are something like 1.50 pounds iirc. Dammit.. why does this forum print the sterling sign like this: £ When you order a copy you'll have to set up a lulu account, just like you would if you were buying from Amazon.

    Advanced Combat Environment

As far as terrorist/insurgent classes go, all that would be needed is some fairly generic arabic types in a odd mixture of civilian and military clothing, and perhaps a similar pack for generic "Western" terrorists (perhaps with balaclavas). These two group types could represent everything from Taliban fighters, Iraqi resistance, AQ insurgents to IRA/loyalists paramilitaries, ETA, Croat/Bosnian/Serb paramilitaries, etc. BUT.... I'd much rather the ACE mod team got on with more important business - simulating modern conventional warfare. I'd love to see some UK forces stuff in the future, but not to simulate roadside bombings in Co. Armagh.... just to balance out the predominantly US/Russian equipment and forces in game. Can't wait to try it out.

Just a quick bump to say that the first ordered copies of the printed TTP have been dropping through people's letterboxes today. Feedback is good so far. Thanks to everyone who ordered a copy, and I hope you enjoy it.

Tactical Guide available in print form

If anyone has any questions about the format or content of the book, or about the Lulu print and distribution service, then feel free to ask them here. I did the design and layout for print - so am in the lucky position of being in possession of a "beta" of the printed article. For those who think it's too expensive - shop around... contact some print companies and see how much they will charge you for a 168 page, full colour, full bleed perfect bound book. The only way to get the price down would have been to have a publisher order and print a whole load of copies and then sell them on.

Lulu uses a print on demand model, which means your copy will be printed and shipped from a location near to where you order.

    g15......yes..the..g15!

It's great with the Teamspeak addon. I now don't have to use Teamspeak Overlay to see who's talking... it just comes up on the LCD.

    Public Training

I wouldn't say Dslyecxi's TTP was composed of 50 year old information. Even if it was though... there are many lessons to be learned from studying the past.

    1.7 beta impressions

Great patch. Thanks BIS. Performance seems improved on a 7600GO card... no graphical issues. Love the Armoury, love the 203 sights (now some modder can work on making them adjustable)... The only single issue I had was an armoury challenge. It seemed to want me to start a boat challenge on land.

    Placebo Radio interview

Jerry.... (Mofo8 here from ShackTac)... any chance you could ask the TrackIR guy about the possibility of implementing helmet mounted sight functionality? i.e. you're the gunner in an Apache.... move you head and the crosshair moves too?

    TrackIR

Imagine a real life example. Imagine you are in the prone position with a rifle and you've 'got your ironsights up', i.e. you've got the butt of the weapon in your shoulder, your head in the correct place and a good sight picture. Your hear a noise to you left. Are you going to: a) Remove the butt of the weapon from your shoulder, relax your hold on the rifle and turn your head towards the source of the noise. (what happened with pre 1.05 and TrackIR) b) Remove the butt of the weapon from your shoulder, relax your hold on the rifle and start shuffling your whole body around to face the left. (what many players without TrackIR in 1.05 and previous versions still do) c) Keep the weapon in position and ready to fire, while turning your head quickly to the left to scan for danger. (the current 1.05 implementation of TrackIR and the one I favour) Sniper type optics and similar are of course different and don't work the same in ArmA with TrackIR, but IRL your face could be almost in contact with the scope and turning your head sharply without either moving your head back or the weapon forward could be painful. I suppose BIS could suit everyone by making it a selectable preference in a future patch.

    TrackIR

I too bought a TrackIR primarily to place this game. TrackIR support was great before the 1.05 patch, and better after it. I like to be able to look around in ironsight mode. I'd prefer full 6DOF support, but that really would make it challenging to get a proper sight picture. As it is, I don't know what's bothering some. Perhaps things aren't configured properly..... or perhaps you've got a wobbly head
