I tried 1.07 and got more graphics corruption than 1.05, and that was with the hotfix
-
Well I tried Vista and found I got a lot of LOD issues So I'm trying XP x64 now ( so as to address my 4GB ram) and its ok so far. Only thing was I got 8007000e error last night. I am testing running maxmem=1024 and 2048 now to see if that helps.

Non Blinding sun/ Damage textures upgrade
JimLad replied to sakura_chan's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Great, but as has been said before we need burned out textures too. Is this possible? -
Forceware 160.02 + 8800 + ARMA nice combo
JimLad replied to mac_4ps's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I too am using these drivers and they do seem to run Arma quite nicely. However I found 1.07 to have too many texture problems, so I went back to 1.05+. -

Sickboy, is Arma playable under Vista now? I had to go back to XP32 before because of LOD issues etc. However I now have 4GB of pc6400, but XP32 only sees 3 gig. I want to go back to Vista 64 to see all of the memory, but will only do so if Arma runs ok

I think they should concentrate only on getting the damn game to run properly, instead of adding new content
-
Yep, it's a lot worse with 1.07 than 1.05+. Did BIS not test this patch with 8800s?

Thanks a lot

Has anyone got FDF working with the ArmA beta patch? My shortcut is - "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\startbetapatch.bat" -mod=FDF_Sounds But I don't get the good sounds

It's all very well saying that ArmA will require future spec machines to run at max settings...but is it justified? I look at the graphics on my setup (3GHz C2Duo, 640MB 8800 gts) and don't see much to warrant the poor performance. Even on medium settings it's not smooth. Whether that is a problem with the game or the drivers I am not sure.
-
I took a panoramic shot with 10km view distance  Panorama Oh yeah and it's pretty smooth, definately playable. It stutters a bit when I fly around though, probably need more than 2GB ram

ArmA stealing Crysis' thunder? Please . Not even in the same league, but hardly surprising given Crysis will have a much larger budget.

Well I just finished the campaign, though I really wasn't expecting it to end.  What a disappointment  It was so short, and lacked any continuity.  There were no characters and story to speak of.  The single player experience absolutely pales in significance compared to OFP.  I really don't understand what BIS have been doing for all these years, aside from tarting up the graphics.  Even then we've got a game riddled with bugs, scripting errors and graphical problems.  I'm really disappointed Â
-
Well I even reinstalled XP to try ArmA, and it was exactly the same as under Vista - terrible performance, missing textures
-
I was just doing a night mission in the campaign, where I had to take out a couple of enemy Urals. And oh my what a load of issues I have encounted (on top of the already dire performance and graphical anomalies). The AI for team mates is rubbish. They often refused to hold fire, and very often refused to fall back into formation, or even move anywhere at all. Then there were scripting problems, when I got to the extraction point (for the 1st time) the heli landed, my team mates hopped aboard, before the heli took off without me....before crashing into some trees and exploding! The second time I tried to get picked up, the heli flew right over without stopping, then landed on a hilltop over a kilometer away. I do not understand - after however many years it's been since OFP - how BIS have released a game that appears to have made no improvements to AI or scripting, that still show's the same problems and bugs that were present upon OFP initial release.

Welcome to the club. I have an 8800 GTS and ArmA runs like a dog

Nice post fardwark. Â Two screens in particular demonstrate where the ArmA performance is really disappointing - 2000m 10000m Load both those screens and note the very small amount of difference in quantity of geometry being rendered. Â There is no good reason why the framerate should fall by 70% for what few extra polys are displayed. However I wonder if it is actually rendering many more polys but they are not visible due to the fog bug. That would explain it.

Obviously I don't have a copy of Crysis on my machine . I'm basing this on what developers have said and demonstrated in videos - you might want to check this one out in particular : Crysis GDC07 video Someone who went to the conference and spoke to the Crytek guys learned the machines running there were core 2 duos with single 8800s, ie. similar to mine. Also I'm sure ArmA can have that many units, but I've never seen anywhere near that number and the performance is still a bit iffy (again could be down to an issue with my 8800!. All I am saying is there is fair room for improvement in the efficiency of the code as far as I can tell, and that claiming ArmA to be rendering 10,000 times as much as RS:V is nonsense
-
A great example is really Crysis, where you can have up to 16km, and 10km mountains as well! I agree though ArmA has an impressive view distance.  I just think the performance could be better in light of the afforementioned .  I would be interested to hear if Arma features any geometry culling algorithms and exactly how the LOD works  EDIT : I might add that I am using an 8800 though so I suspect I won't get the performance I ought to until the next patch or new drivers
-
Where on earth did you pull that figure of 10,000 from? The whole point of LOD is that it reduces the detail at distance so you don't have to render as much.
-
Yep, though amusingly the performance decreases

The next step in gaming should not be graphics...
JimLad replied to horrgakx's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
I turned on Super AI and set my team mates AI to Expert, and we managed to clear out the area successfully. Two of them still bit the dust which is pretty poor for SF, but they stayed prone this time and took cover as well -
I would disagree with calls for a RS:V style cover system. Â The lean, crouch, prone abilities in ArmA are more than adequate in my opinion. Â However what does need to improve is the manner in which the AI uses these abilities (or not). Â It may do it to some degree but I don't see my team mates keeping their backs to walls or leaning round corners.

Have you deinstalled the old drivers before installing the new? Also i run a Regcleaner to be sure everything is gone before installing the new drivers. I am using the X-Fi extreme gamer and the driver is working. greets Yes, I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the new ones. What I meant was, that my sound works perfect (it also worked perfect with the old drivers), also in Arma, it just didn't minimize the e800... problem, as Jimlad said it did by him. Well I can't be sure that was what fixed it, but it was the only thing I changed... I had already tried the maxmem thing with no avail.. Whilst not perfect, Arma is very playable now and I get minimal graphics corruption. Rather weird
