Well I'm In A Great Mood...

So I've been playing Operation Flashpoint since I purchased it in September 2001. I've had so much fun with this game over the years. And then in July '03 when I discovered addons and user missions... hoo boy. Great times. Some of my favorite missions from over the years have been Airborne, Facile Ground, Short Straight, Pukalov Beach, Sieze Le Moule, Lojack 2... I think that my favorites of all time are Carelian Pie and Getting The Upper Hand for FDFMod. So what am I rambling about? I'm just happy because after five years I've just developed my first mission using Lib '41. Now I don't think I plan on making it public just yet since I'm thinking about including it in a mini-campaign... but I've completed the mission in 4 days. I don't know how good it is but I know that -I- enjoy playing it and I've played many. So who knows. Doesn't matter, the point is I made it. It is done, my creativity has found an outlet. And now I'm in a good mood and I figured I'd share this little tale with fellow OFP fans.

    Liberation 1941-1945: Patch 1.07

Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
  3. I'm giving this another playthrough. Doesn't this campaign just scream out "masterpiece" and "work of art"? In my opinion this is just -the- best in OFP gaming. And it's been a long time since I've seen it mentioned so I figured I'd bring back some attention onto my favorite little campaign...

    Liberation 1941-1945: Patch 1.07

I know I asked about this sort of thing before and I apologize for bothering you all again. I'm trying to make a mission using Lib '41 and at one point I want the player to drop his MP40. Only I can't get it at all to work and I think it's because I'm not using the proper syntax for the MP40. Trying to use the command "(Not (Bidermann hasweapon "MP40")". So I wonder, how exactly do I access the configs like bdfy suggested so I can see the names of those addons and add them into a script with the proper syntax? That way I won't have to keep bugging you all whenever I can't get something to work. Â

    Bombed Out Villages

Curious if there's any islands out there that feature a bit of battle damage? Bombed villages, rubble, damaged homes, etc?

    Liberation 1941-1945: Patch 1.07

Is there any listing of Liberation 1941 anims and sounds for us mission makers, similar to the reference manual for vanilla OFP? Specifically I'd like to know the names of some of the wounded anim and the Russian "Hooray" sounds so they can be incoporated into mission scripts.
  7. If anyone has ever played the mission Airborne, I would like to create a similar effect as seen in the beginning of that mission. I.E. right at the beginning the players vision "fades" from total black out to vision, black to vision. It simulated him waking and shutting his eyes after waking up. I dePBO'd Airborne to look for the effect but couldn't find it, so I've decided to ask about it on here. Anyone know how I can do this?

    PBO Making Assistance

Ah ha, I've got it. Yeehaw. Thanks for the help guys.
  9. Okay, I'm on the verge of completing my first mission and I'm currently in the process of editing my briefing, inserting hyperlinks, all that jazz. I've downloaded a utility to make PBO's off of OFP Info and it seems to have worked. It took my mission folder and compressed it all into a shiny "Mission.PBO" file. I then proudly took my new PBO file, pasted it into the missions folder, started up OFP, selected it, and nothing happened. Literally, it's like I pressed the cancel button at the bottom because it just closed the missions window and took me back to the main OFP screen. You would think I'd be done by now but now I've run into this obstacle. Secondly, every other mission has a nice name. "Convoys". "Facile Ground". Etc. In the mission folder my mission is named "Krieg.Eden.Pbo" or some ugly and unappealing name like that. How do I make it so it displays its actual title like it should? The only thing that semi works right now is my overview. It is visible but the picture I selected isn't working. I know I probably didn't resize it properly but I can try to figure that out on my own, it's not a big deal and if it becomes one I'll ask again. The big problems are the ones I listed above.

    PBO Making Assistance

Here's a copy of my Overview script. <!-- Overview Title --> <br><h2 align="center"><a name="Main"> Blah </a></h2> <!-- Overview Picture --> <p align="center"><img src="1941 USSR.jpg" width="512" height="256"></p> <!-- Overview Text --> <p><br> Blah blahbitty blah blah... <br></p> </body> </html> And the picture is just completely not working at all. I can access the mission, the overview text is all present. But it just won't show any picture try as I might.

    PBO Making Assistance

Ah, thank you that makes things easier :-). Unfortunately though it still doesn't work. I exported it to single player missions and A) it still has a funky name and B) most importantly it won't open. I click "Open" and it just goes right back to the main OFP screen. I just can't figure out why it's doing that.
  12. Here's the deal. I have five attacking groups of infantry, all set to allowfleeing 0 so that they do not run off. When they're all killed I want the mission to end about a minute later. And I cannot just set an end trigger for "When East Not Present" because there are enemy tanks in the area who might still be there after the infantry die, but I want the mission to end -specifically- when those five groups die. Also, I'd like to add a message saying something like "Got him!" when an enemy vehicle is destroyed. How can I do this? I remember you could set a condition in a trigger for "notalive" or something similar but I don't remember the command exactly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Liberation 1941-1945: Patch 1.07

I have a question concerning a mission editing option which doesn't seem to be working in Liberation 1941. I used FDFMod for this comparison. If I have a group and I want to set a trigger to activate when x amount of soldiers in that group are dead I would use the condition line "West countSide (units group1) < 5" where it would activate when the group has less than five remaining soldiers. That works fine. Then I like to have a little text pop up that says "Booyah" or some such so that I know it worked. In Liberation '41 it is not working for me at all. I have the same situation but with a USSR squad. Give the condition "USSR countSide (units group1) < 5" and nothing happens. No text, nothing seems to happen at all. Is there something different or, more likely, am I doing something wrong?

    UNSUNG IS HERE

I was playing this mod a bit this afternoon and was very impressed after I installed the update. Finally, I cannot be shot by enemy soldiers that shouldn't realistically be able to see me! It's a wonderful Vietnam experience now, -very- atmospheric and, dare I say, claustrophobic. I move around with my squad with M16 set to full auto (easier in close range fights), feeling very isolated because I can't even see my squadmates. Then gunfire comes from nowhere, grenades are thrown, I end up firing into the bushes, etc. I even shot a friendly soldier on accident when he ran out of a bush unexpectedly and scared the crap out of me. I think that somebody should remake Dinger's excellent mission Short Straight using this island. I used to love that one, but was never able to complete it or fully enjoy it because of the AI's knack for shooting me through bushes. That business threw me off. That mission would be -superb- on this island though.

    FDFMOD 1.4 OUT

adding to that, it seems that the wings are non effected by bullet fire - i've been dogfighting the hurricanes to death, and have noticed that i only do damge if i hit the main fuselage given how the huricane and spitfires were built, this is quite realistic, but i'd somehow expect some damage from shooting the wings (or is it just me having this problem) Speaking from a pilot's point of view, I'd be willing to bet it's impossible for you to know if you are hitting the wings. Half of the time you think you're hitting the enemy plane and you're actually missing - the only way to know for sure you've got him is if you see flashes on the fueselage, smoke, or if he crashes. If you've holed his wings it's not going to be noticeable unless you pull up right alongside him, and can get him to stay perfectly still for however amount of time you need to get a good look.

    FDFMOD 1.4 OUT

What's the command to apply "this allow fleeing 0" to an entire group? I apologize for the basic scripting question, but I've been away from the community for quite some time and have forgotten all the old mission editing commands. While I'm on the subject, what is that artillery script FDFMod uses so often? You know the one I'm talking about, the very deadly huge bursts of artillery fire that seem to land randomly each time. They use it in King's Winter, Battle of Casamate, at the start of Carelian Pie... is it an original FDF creation or could I download it from somewhere? I would love to incorporate it into future Eastern Front missions.

    FDFMOD 1.4 OUT

Love the mod, been playing it all afternoon. And I guess I have the honor of asking the first questions about it. How can I set squads to start out in trenches in the mission editor? I'd really like to create a massive Soviet attack on a Finnish defensive line, but this is hard to do if all the AI troops and anti-tank guns start out outside of their fortifications. How exactly do I take off in an airplane? I've been trying to play the SP flying missions but I can't get into the air. Well, I can with the Fokker D.XII. I make it to about height 12 and then the plane inexplicably gets very heavy and falls down. I'm playing on a laptop/notebook computer, would that have something to do with my inability to maintain control?

Why so few co-op missions with armour?

What's WGL and where can I find it?

    Bastogne 1944

Are there any islands modeling the area in and around Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge? I know that there is an Ardennes Island, though I can't find the link. And I can't download it right now to see for myself since I'm working out of a computer very far from home and won't be back until mid August. So I'm curious if someone would be so kind as to inform me about that island. The pictures I remember seeing were all Spring/Summer weather... is there any winter version of the island I could use? If not I'll have to go for Winter Nogojev or something, but the more authentic I can get the better. If someone would please humor me and give me some info I'd be much obliged.
  21. This deals with scripting the AI to call artillery fire. Whatever caliber it is doesn't matter, I don't think. Realistically speaking I'd say 105mm. Irrelevant to the topic anyway. My main idea is this. One army is positioned on the outskirts of a forest overlooking a town. Another army is in that town in defensive positions. Now, how can I script it so the AI on both sides fires artillery from opposite ends of the map to pummel the crap out of each other? With Chain of Command artillery I know how to call fire -myself- but I don't like being an arty spotter every mission. How can you make that mortar platoon fire on... say, the town of Lipany after you activate its trigger? The ability to do this has always eluded me, and so I turning to this board for some help.
  22. I like to make attacks on fixed positions using the editor. That or defend fixed positions, etc. But the problem is that everytime my units don't remain fixed. The squad leader will give orders for someone to engage, and they'll go running off into the open. Obviously this is horribly disadvantageous. It even happens in other people's single player missions I've played... for instance in the mission "Platoon Commander", for thoes of you who've played it (and it's a good one so you should) the U.S. squads stay still until they make contact with the Russians and then start crawling towards the vehicles until they're spotted and thereby ruining my ambush. I've tried giving them hold waypoints, guard waypoints, setting their behavior to "do not engage" or something like that (can't remember the exact command) but regardless the defending units ALWAYS get up and advance on the enemy as soon as contact is made and make the attacker's life much easier. How can I fix this?

    "Strange Meeting" Bug

Heh, that's cool. I don't think they ever considered the possibility that your squad might survive. Just use the end mission cheat. Good work though, first I've ever heard of your unit surviving that mission.

    Ofp moments in gameplay

I did, but man it wasn't easy. In that mission, Sleeping Beauties, we were handled very roughly by the Americans. Once the Abrams charged at us I knew our position was indefensible and believe me I was already ordering my squad to retreat even before the official orders came in. So when they do I have to go back to the HQ, destroy the radio and pick up up the documents, and run like hell out of there. I was fired on by a Cobra's machine gun and took cover under a tree on the western side of the road leading north from Morton. The remenants of my squad (two men) were on the eastern side in the woods. U.S. troops cut the road in between us so we were cut off, and so resigned to my fate I went north traveling from forest to forest and using the map to give the rest of my squad a route to follow. They made contact with Americans at least three times and each time I expected them to be killed but I kept hearing them reporting "Got him!" or "Officer is history" and figure they must've been doing some terrible damage to the U.S. patrols. Ultimately though they ran into trouble in some woods near Figaro and I lost contact with them. so I was on my own. During my trek north I ran into U.S. patrols twice. The first time I was in the woods and they walked right by me, so when they had their back turns I legged it. The second time I was in the open running between two sets of woods when I look right and all the sudden I see a U.S. squad approaching me. Quick as hell I ducked down in some bushes and they literally walked by -right- infront of me. It was close. Then when they were gone I legged it again, and ran into no further trouble and made it to Morton. There's definately a thrill in surviving on your own, through stealth, in enemy territory. Navigating using only a map and compass. It's one of the things I love about special forces in OFP. I have a great story about a Spetznaz mission I participated in to kill a U.S. Army colonel (also in the Retaliation campaign) but I'll save that one for later.
  25. Let's say I have 4 Squads of Russian soldiers, and 6 armored vehicles. Be they BMP's or tanks or what have you. And they go on the attack. Is it possible for them to retreat after sustaining 75% or 80% casualties? If so, how?
