Well buddy, the Napf territory is huge and I don't have the time to hike around the whole map and compare it to the real thing. But I will explore it for sure.
-
As a Swiss myself I know the Napf territory very well. It's fantastic for hiking. I'm really looking forward to exploring the map. Could you tell me which parts are realistic and which ones you made out of your fantasy?

ARMA 1 : beta patch 1.18.5278 RC (road to final) + feedback
Harlock_GBase replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Yeah it's a shame really. At least BIS should make a statement letting people know if the latest RC patch is now definitely the last thing we'll see form Arma. That way maybe some servers will switch to the latest version. :( -
ARMA 1 : beta patch 1.18.5278 RC (road to final) + feedback
Harlock_GBase replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Ok, here are my two cents on the patch: i did play Arma for about 5 hours since i bought it, because performance on my ancient rig (P4 3.2GHz, 2GB Ram, ATi x1950pro AGP 512 MB, Win XP 32) was just too bad. I also waited for a few weeks before installing the latest 1.18 patch, because i thought a final version would come out, but i've given up on that. Now i have installed it anyway and i must say i am impressed. Even though i can't really compare it to the performance under version 1.14 because i haven't played the game for about a year, i have a strong feeling that performance is way smoother now. I even managed to finish my first mission without getting killed after 2 minutes (one of the first ones where you must clean a small town from enemies). I think this has to do with the much smoother movement of the game overall, because i didn't have any problems killing all enemies in my sights, where with all the patches before it would stutter to the point were i was getting shot at all the time and couldn't allign one shot myself. So good work on that BIS. I can now enjoy the game (after about 2 years). That said i'm using kegety's lowplants mod, so no idea how the game behaves under "normal" circumstances. But i will report back should i have the time to try it out. -
graphics bugs with ATI 4800 series (4850/4870/4890)
Harlock_GBase replied to fjaekel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I only have the demo, not the full game, but i have to credit BIS for making Arma II run better on my medieval rig than Arma. I have an old P4 3.2GHz with 2GB Ram and an ATI x1950pro with 512MB (AGP). I can run Arma II fine with even higher settings than in Arma. What the heck?! Well, i also have these artifacts and the fact that as AGP user i'm stuck with the 9.3 catalyst driver doesn't help much. Would be nice if this could get sorted out. I might even think about buying the full game : ) -
Silly me...ok that partly did the trick, but still the spin effect is much too weak in my eyes. Can't believe that a Littlebird could not spin more even when in forward motion when the pedals are operated...it still is a pain to align that thing to a moving tank...
-
Really?! I fly with a gamepad because i don't own a flightstick and i mapped the rudders to the left and right shoulder buttons. It kind of works, but the chopper only makes really light movements to the left and the right, just inches, even if i hold the buttons pressed. Also it does not work when flying forwarf, only when hovering. I could need a hint as how to change my settings.
-
Can't agree here. Not that BF2's choppers are great, but you can use the rudders to adjust your alignment to a target, what you can't do in ArmA (or OPF) because the chopper will start banking if you use the rudders, which, as far as i know, is not correct in terms of reality, as the rudder pedals should just spin the helicopter horizontally...
-
Good work. Patch seems to work well, although i'm not sure if the performance is so much better than before. The new gamemode is awesome. I'm still not happy with the way the helos handle though. Rudders still make my chopper bank, so i find it overly difficult to align for a air-to-ground run. Also when banking hard the nose should drop because of the reduced velocity, but this ain't the case, i still have to steer.

I had random CTDs too until i installed the newest ATi video drivers (Catalyst 8.3). Now i also installed 1.09 beta and i have to say i was never able to play the game that smoothly before. Now it feels like the Arma i wanted when i bought it. I had only played about two hours until now, because the performance was inacceptable, but now it's much much better. For the first time i can see how good this game can look, even on my old school rig (3.2 GHz P4, 2GB Ram, Ati x1650xt 512MB). That's the way to go BIS, and if this new memory mapping method brings even more smoothness, just bring it on!

No gripes here, just pure fun. What you put in place here is amazing. Since the latest patch my messed up Mr. Burn's islands installation magically started working as it should. And I beat the mission battlefields for the first time. Now with the AI less accurate it feels much more balanced and realistic. GREAT JOB!!
-
Oh no, i installed mr burns' islands and now my whole ofp is messed up! Of course i didn't do a backup before... does anybody have an idea on how to repair this (besides reinstalling the whole thing)?
-
I really like what i see, but as others mentioned the AI is too accurate. The mission Battlefields is nearly unplayable because as soon as you enter the line of fire of the enemy you get sniped by a guy with an AK at 300m...if you could correct that it would be awesome.

SLX Replacement Pack, Mod, and Addons
Harlock_GBase replied to Solus's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Solus, it's been a looong time i posted in this forums, and an even longer time i didn't play OFP, but now with your addon i did and got hooked again...my university work is on halt because of YOU! well, everything works like a charm, with only one problem (forgive me, i didn't read all the 26 pages to see if it has been mentioned before): i play your addon with FFUR2006 and no matter which config i use (even with the light ones), when i play the mission battlefields (i don't remember if it's an original one but i think it is) where a lot of soldiers run around, i only get 4 fps... my specs: P4 3.2 GHz 1GB Ram SATA 100 GB HD ATi Radeon 9800 pro 128 MB Creative Audigy 2 all the latest drivers -
must be new ones, cause i have frenchpoint installed (the best looking units i have seen so far....) but they do not look THAT good...will have to check. Thanks for the info
