DirectX 8.1b is just the latest version of DX. You know after Directx 8.1a came 8.1b. For some reason MS decided that DX 8.2 was a step too far.

I would have though that it's pretty obvious that installing Resistance (version 1.75) and then version 1.46 aint gonna work. Maybe that's just me.

Try altering your AGP aperture size in your BIOS. Usually setting this to 64Mb is enough, but try it a little higher.

Is the Cable modem on the host PC or the other networked PC? Stop sharing the modem with your other PC and see if you can now Host.

There's no need to install patch 1.46. Resistance will upgrade version 1.00 all the way up to 1.75. Not sure it'll help though, but you never know.

Try turning the terrain Detail down in the video options.
