    FFUR/SLX 2007

Downloading right now at 440-450 Kb/s, would like to express my appreciation for you guys doing this for the community! Thank you so much for keeping the best war game ever alive! (yes I am a bit late, but have not been playing for a while).

    Karate in Armed Assault

That video looked awesome. I don't care one bit what it is called, but it looks great nonetheless. *Me pops Poser to create new custom animations*

    Armed Assault is -AMAZING-

There's a lot of interesting reading in this forum, thanks for the contributions from those of you who actually have purchased the game and have hands-on experience with it. I am pretty sure Armed Assault will mature and improve, just as OFP 1985 did. I am not worried about that at all. As for all the bugs and various issues, I am not going to comment on it simply because I do not have the game yet, so I would have no idea what I was talking about. As for system requirements, I need another gig of RAM anyway, and I can always O/C the 3.0Ghz CPU a bit. The 7800GT graphics cards should be good enough, really. I love the fact that there is a team of developers to create games (simulations) such as OFP 1985 and Armed Assault. Treasure them, because they are few and far between. Look at how many realistic car sims there are left. Count them on one hand if you can even find one anymore. The rest is all about completely unrealistic arcade fun. Same thing with most "flight sims" and war games. I loved the slower pace in OFP 1985, I could spend a whole night with a mission in complete immersion if it was done well. That I am looking forward to experience again, with Armed Assault. Thanks again for your contributions, it is nice to see something other than pre-doom posts

    the huds white crosshair

Thank you BIS for still letting us de-activate that annoying floating aiming cross. When I turned it off in OFP 1985 and got used to using the iron sights / scopes, I never went back

    PCFormat feature full shots

Oh.. hadn't seen those shots until now. Looks good, almost too good. Wait and see.

    Track ir

I am most definitly considering the Track IR Pro, after seing some of the videos on their website. Check out those car and flight sim videos! It would really add a lot to the immersion of a wargame as well, I am sure of it.

    Movement -> Stop

They will keep it as it was in OFP 1985. Anything else would be stupid, and as far as I know, the guys at BIS are anything but stupid

Just some things... (From 160mb Demo Vid)

That video looks gorgeous. The soldiers look much better, the landscape is breathtakingly beautiful, the view distance ...

How realistic do you expect ArmA to be?

I am hoping and believing that it will indeed be more realistic than OFP 1985 was, although I also have to say that as a foot soldier sim, OFP 1985 is still king of the hill. I am currently playing Battlefield 2 (arcade shooter, but with a well working squad it can be great fun), but my heart belongs to Operation Flashpoint (or any title that comes from the hands of the wizards at BIS, for that matter), so I am really looking forward to Armed Assault. If AA turns out to be less realistic, oh well, a MOD can always do something about that, but from what I have read about AA so far, it seems to be more realistic than OFP 1985. Ballistics, collision detection, it all sounds promising. The main reason I believe it will have those features, is that it comes from BIS. They've shown us they are not just using big words. Thank you BIS for OFP 1985, which kept me busy for about two years straight after launch. I really cannot say that about any other game that I have ever played in my life

    Streams and Rivers

Have a look at the tech demo from Avalanche Studios in Sweden, which will be used in the game called "Just cause". Needless to say, I will buy that game as soon as it is out, and the engine looks really promising. http://www.justcausegame.com This isn't so bad looking, is it? Addictive Video Game playing

Nutz have a point, but he should instead talk about MMORPG games, not SP games with MP. MMORPG games are truly addictive. So much in fact, it is not good for anybody's mental or physical health. And yet, this is only the beginning. Experts have recently said they believe this wave of MMORPG addiction will continue for at least 15 years from now. With the nice looking MMORPG titles of today, imagine what it will look like in 2010 - 2020. We cannot even imagine, due to the bliztering speed of game technology development. The phys-X card is hitting the market by 2006, and it will bring an oustanding level of realism into games. Imagine that kind of physics in a MMORPG. Who would want to leave a gorgeous looking online world with "more real than life" graphics and physics, where you can fly whenever and wherever you want, kick some serious butt with uber weapons, make real money in the game (Second Life and Project Entropia already do this), do naughty things with the most beatiful .. (you sick bastards!. Just a thought. Games are addictive, some more than others. I don't think SP games such as OFP 1985 and soon to come AA will ever be as addictive as MMORPG games are, though.

  13. Reminds me of a missions that I did in the campaign. I positioned my group in some bushes around a village, then suddenly one of those BMP's approached us from behind. I froze at the sound and knew I was dead if I dared to stick my head out of the bush. The thing came up on my left. Slowly.. sqeek, sqeek. Then, a horrible scream.. one of my team mates were run over by the BMP and faced a gruesome death. It was one of the times when I for a moment forgot it was a game

When (what date) did you all first play ofp?

I do not remember the exact date, but I received my copy of OFP 1985 3 days before the official release date in Europe. I still remember people not believing me until I posted pics of the CD, cover and manual . I played OFP 1985 and Resistance straight for about 2 years before I started looking for something different. I have never played such a realistic soldiersim ever since, and many FPS titles today seem to have been inspired by Operation Flashpoint 1985. Will I return to OFP 1985? Most likely, yes. I never really got around to learning to make my own landscape, and then there's all those MOD's released after I stopped playing.. very tempting indeed! I still recommend this game to people asking what it is, and they usually fall in love with it pretty soon. Not bad for a game that has been around for a couple of years. I recently re-built my PC with a phat graphics card, fast memory and all, in order to run Battlefield 2 efficiently. After a couple of days, I was bored enough to put BF2 in the closet, and I have not installed it again since. OFP 1985 kept me playing just about every day for about 2 years.

    Flashpoint 2 And The PPU

I for one welcome the PPU. It is the next logical step in games and simulations, really. As for CPU's, how great is the progress in CPU developement the past couple of years? Not that great. The PC that I own now, I put together some 2 years ago, using a P4 2.8. Today's most efficiant Intel CPU's with a pricetag you and me can afford, is a 3.66. Not much of a difference, really. The focus has been moved onto the GPU for some years now, and it has become insanely powerful and so hot, you can forget about heating expenses during winter (just close the window every now and then) <- joke. When I first read about the PPU, my initial thoughts were those of a madman who finally realize his fantasy world is real. Or to put it in other words: I had a feeling all along it could come some day. I welcome the PPU with open arms, and if I can afford it when it is out, I would like to buy one, too. Of course they will be pretty expensive in the beginning; all new technology cost an arm and leg until it goes mass production. Then prices will go down. Microsoft will be interested in this, I cannot see any valid reason why not. Anything that makes the game and entertainment scene move forward should be of interest to them.
