Preview: Civilian Pack - 20 New Vehicles
Havelock replied to Devil's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I try not to get involved in the schoolboy squabbling stuff, but I think we have a case of misunderstanding here. I think RN Malbouef was meaning to say that they are trying to ban Wisdom, NOT Devil. The Devil at the end of the sentence was indicating that the comment was directed towards Devil. Just another victim of poor grammar and punctuation. (Not that I am trying to criticise any individual there, but I am the one man campaign for proper use of language on the Internet). I now expect ten thousand posts criticising my punctuation, spelling and grammar. -
So they say ... at least in terms of major addons, etc. There will be a few bug updates, but probably not a lot more. Got to concentrate on that SDK, and then OFP2!
-
I too like learning by myself ... but once I've done that (playing OFP for a while now), I like to get other peoples' perspective. Which UK site?
-
It's possible to get lots of kills and three red XXXs if you kill a friendly (but your score is normally severely affected). The 'take James to Everon' mission is noted for giving crap scores if you follow orders and get back to the boat without hanging around to shoot something.

Oh .. and I disagree with a focus on Multiplayer. Two reasons for that. 1. Selfishness ... I only play single-player. 2. Realism ... the two bases, small maps, being anally retentive about unit balance, etc. By all means, support MP, but keep the SP strong.
-
OFP 2 would be the opportunity to improve / change the code. I agree with the 'buildings idea. Currently the clipping problems really do bug me. I also agree with the REALISM argument. Choose a date for a campaign (or more than one date for more than one campaign) and make sure the equipment is specific to that date.
-
It's an addon campaign, produced by a bunch of rip-off merchants. Not sure were you can buy it, but I don't go to the shops much.

30th November .. why "lol" about the 8 quid?
-
I am frequently getting upset with Trabants and their drivers (in Real Life this is, plenty around in Budapest). I hope non of them are the dreaded .... Super Trabant!
-
I was watching 'All Quiet on the Western Front' earlier today, starring Ernest Borgnine (however you spell that). That brought back the Airwolf memories. My flatmate at university was obsessed with Jan Michael-Vincent.

If the file you wish to add is a single-player mission, then add it to the Missions sub-folder of your OFP directory. If MP then add it to the MPMissions directory.

They certainly did .... until 1945 when the Centurion tank came along. That, and the Chieftain that followed, were truely kings of the battlefield until the late 70's. Challanger 1 let it go, I agree (in maintainance, not ideas), but Challanger 2 brings it back home. A University friend of mine works for Vickers as a tank designer. He always said the best armoured designs in the world were Brazilian.

I know this is jumping back in the thread a bit (but I don't really care). HALO is a method of inserting special forces, designed to get your guy in quick and unseen (and probably break his legs). This LAPES (which I think is correct, but not sure) stands for (I ... again ... think) Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System. There you fly low in your C-130 or whatever, with you tank, jeeps etc on a huge pallet and then shove it out the back. From there it descends not so gently to earth. I just think it would be a cool thing to see. (If not particularly useful in the game)

Without wishing to raise anyone's hackles, I think the British Army is a tad more accurate than the English Army (unless you want some of the more scary Highland regiments on the other side). The strength of the British Army (and its armed forces in general) is not in its equipment (which tends to be average/good, with occasional bloopers and brilliants) but in the superb training of its fighting men (and women of course) -- Currently reading - The Crow Road - Iain Banks Currently listening - the news

Certainly useful for my campaign. Good scope on it .... but as it is the 1985 version it has to jam about every 20 rounds (caution: made-up statistic). So bring a spare! -- Currently reading - The Crow Road - Iain Banks Currently listening - Is That It - The Strokes

Challanger 2 has the best armour of any Western production tank, a gun control system based on an upgraded version of the Abrams's system, and a rather nice gun. Its immediate ancestor, the Challanger 1, was a tad reliability-problem prone but the new version seems to have fixed that. As long as stupid cost-cutting measures are not implemented. During the recent exercises in Oman the MoD tried to save money by not properly preparing the vehicles for the desert. (Sand Filters, etc). Result: a significant proportion of engines damaged within 48 hours. Bloody typical, as my grandmother would say. -- Currently reading - The Crow Road - Iain Banks Currently listening - Is That It - The Strokes

Apparently the Minigun used to shake the airframe to bits. -- Currently reading - The Crow Road - Iain Banks Currently Listening - BBC World

A C-130, even if it couldn't land (and I contend that it could on Malden field), would be good for ... what's the d*amn acronym ... LAPES (?) Basically parachuting heavy equipment at low altitude. Delivery of vehicles straight to (near) the FEBA. Good scenario design possibilities there.

Fixes to the UH-60 and the UH-60 (mg) and a few other issues

The M144 Armament System (in LEFT and RIGHT versions) that can each mount an M60D 7.62mm machine gun. This is 1985 remember. (When I was 11 ... oh to be young again ...) -
Hmmm, the AH-6C 'Little Bird Gun'. An aircraft that could be modelled if BIS / modders wished to portray a (very) Light Attack Helicopter. Can carry Hellfires as well. See www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/oh-6.htm

That'd be the one -
Sorry, but it works for me. Try doing an internet search for .... U.S. Army TACOM - Rock Island Aircraft Armament and Small Arms Commodity business unit. Alternatively, find the OH-58 page at www.fas.org and scroll down to the links at the bottom. Althought come to think of it I think that didn't work first time for me and I had to manually play around with the address in my browser. The resource is worth the searching though.

Oh forgot to say ..... I loved the BIRDMAN stuff. "Unpleasant products for an unpleasant world" indeed. Almost tempted to use one of those stupid internet abbreviations (rofl or lol or whatever piece of illiteracy is being thought of next). Not that tempted though.

I can see all the point in the world for adding further small arms, etc. Firstly all comments are from the point of view of someone who plays single-player only. The lifeblood of single player gaming is interesting, well-written and VARIED scenarios. Therefor the ability to vary nationality, army, etc with the use of accurately modelled and interesting uniforms, small-arms, armoured units, etc., can only add to the possibilities available. Please note that, all that said, I would rather see fewer systems modelled well than many done badly. Can't have it both ways I suppose.

Oh I forgot ...... ARTILLERY! Mortors, field guns (very popular with Soviet forces), Katushas, etc, etc.
