climatic changes, what do you think about that?

You are speaking nonsense This is how volcano output gas levels are measured Please look to real, peer reviewed, respected scientific information instead of some geocities -spawn website run by a nut in his basement for your information. The claim that volcanoes emit more CO2 and other greenhouse gases* than humans is just fantasy nonsense. *Several people have already told you that CO2 is not the only greenhouse gas nor factor affecting the temperature of the earth, so why do you persist in your strawman claim that the CO2 graph should fit the temperature graph exactly?? Could it be because you're not using science but rather faith?

    ArmA is just ... disappointing

I loved OFP and I still like Arma. But it's getting incredibly frustrating to play. The worst thing is the grass. Apart from the hideous slowdown that you get when prone, the second worst thing is the lack of visibility. And that is compared to real life, not what OFP was like. IRL there are always humps and hollows and bare patches where you can rise up enough to see over the grass. The absolute worst thing about the grass is that the AI are still unaffected by it. I wish the grass rendering was just removed from the game, it's eye-candy for the sake of it and it ruins what could be a much better game. And setting terrain grid is not the answer either because for one it is set by the server/mission in multiplayer and for two I still want to have actual cover in terms of lumpy ground, not a runway covered in grass.

    Mouse Sensitivity

Setting windows mouse a little lower and arma sensitivity a LOT lower has really improved the situation for me. Still not on par with OFP for good aiming but better.
  4. ...and there are always people who don't know anything at all about physics or realistic flight models, but who bandy about terms like inertia or attack straw man claims. Nobody said helicopters should be able to 'turn on a dime midair' [sic] at any speed. People want a better simulation of the real life abilities of helicopters, because the present model in Arma is not good from a gameplay perspective or from a realism perspective. @fish: Yes, I forgot to mention black shark.

    Patch 1.08 - Released!

Mine doesnt seem to be crashing any more now; I reinstalled and have been running without any mods. I also didn't use the maxmem parameter since I have 2Gb ram.

    Mouse Sensitivity

I have a MS wired optical mouse and I have this problem in Arma as well, although NOT in any other game or in windows. I'm going to fiddle with the sensitivities and see if that fixes it.

    Arma and Vista

As everyone has said already Vista is shite for gaming. However if you must use it, turn all the fancy pretty gubbins off (aero interface, sidebar, everything) and if possible alt+tab out of game in order to close down explorer as well. And definitely don't be running any 'security' programs.

    Call of Duty Modern Warfare...

Never liked the cod games, they are so scripted you just have to replay and replay and replay until you find the way the developers want you to go. No need for tactics or skill. Also don't like the 1 man vs an entire armoured guards division style of gamplay.

    Patch 1.08 - Released!

I'm getting a crash after 10- 15 minutes as well. No warning, no slowdown. When it crashes I don't have to kill the task in task manager. It runs fairly well until then. Got an AMD 3500+ 2 Gig ram Arma 1.08 latest directx creative audigy 1 soundcard geforce 6800 GTS (yes yes, I know this is the weak point)

climatic changes, what do you think about that?

Don't be ridiculous. The amount of money available from oil companies and the governments and nations irrevocably tied to oil power dwarfs the money available for climate studies research, green initiatives and so on by a factor of hundreds if not thousands. That IS a conspiracy theory and not a very convincing one. Notwithstanding the point that it's complete post-hoc reasoning. How did the 'green' movement get started in the first place then? You have a total lack of understanding of science. There are always fringe nutjobs of course but when the vast majority of qualified scientists in a field have a consensus on an issue it's because the evidence points that way. Get real evidence pointing the other way (not the stuff Walker has already demolished, as I said there are always fringe nutjobs) and the scientists will follow the best evidence.
  12. I think the best current flight model for helicopters is Enemy Engaged Comanche Hokum with all the community updates (they released the source code a while back. EECH 2 is not as good in terms of flightmodelling as they used an older version then updated the graphics) If you try those helis with the flight model on full (i.e. the rudder seperate from the main cyclic, not crosscoupled) you can, with a lot of practice, start doing the kind of manoeuvres that real helicopter pilots use. Which is exactly how it should be in Arma. In order to use rockets and forward firing cannons properly the rudder is absolutely essential. And it shouldnt magically stop working at a certain speed, it should just not work as well proportional to the airspeed.

I have to say that Walker is doing a great job of actually presenting evidence and using the scientific method. The deniers have now resorted to name calling and posts which amount to 'Oh yeah?' I'd like to put in another point: every denier always goes on about the CO2 graph not fitting the temperature graph..... well, that is because CO2 is not the only gas which has an insulating effect on the earth! I'm not sure if there is such a thing, but a graph showing the sum of all groundhouse gas emissions weighted by amount and strength of effect (which would be difficult to produce) would fit the data better. Also, just because humans are having a major effect on the climate does NOT mean that there are no other factors. None of the real scientists are saying that increased solar emissions won't have an effect, as the deniers have claimed.

    GAU-8 on A10

That quote doesn't say anything about whether or not there is a burst setting in the A10.

    Spyware from here??

Some (IMHO badly made) security programs count every single cookie stored as 'SPYWARE!!!!!' so that they can pop up boxes about it in order to give the illusion that they are working. There isn't any spyware from these boards.

    Elevation (Not Wandage)

Our rifles (UK) have adjustable elevation wheels for various ranges which we ARE supposed to adjust in combat. I don't know if the US sights are the same but given that these are necessary to shoot with any accuracy beyond 300m (200m in some cases) they should have also. These adjustments are NOT the same as the ones used to zero the weapon.

Thanks turkmenbashi. Luciano ; 1) only by manually forcing it off, it wasn't an option in steam when I had it. 3) I was using the friends thing to find my mates in servers, which was handy - when (if) it worked. I wasn't chatting in game or anything. Will have to get RO soon then

    Unrealistic Multi Question

Short answer: yes. Long answer: Yes, but for some reason most servers seem to be playing the same mission in ARMA, as opposed to OFP which had many different missions.

Ask a moderator about the forum and the rules

Hi, I've had a look at the previous pages and can't find any mention of this; just wondering if a mod could clear up the reasoning behind the 100kB limit on images? I'm assuming this is a holdover from when Operation Flashpoint was brand new and most people were on 56k or less. Has this been reconsidered recently?

PC Discussion Thread - All PC related in here.

Hi, I've just bought a laptop (well, I just helped my girlfriend buy a laptop, but I still made it as good as possible for as cheap as possible). I found a really usefull page that goes through the various graphics cards you can get in laptops for comparison- these are absolutely the most important part of a gaming machine. She ended up getting her laptop from this site , can't remember the exact specs but it was better and cheaper than the equivalent VAIO, HP or any other online site I've found in the UK. What I did was try to find one as close to the budget as possible on each site and compare the specs. She got the laptop about a month ago, for about 800 quid. It's got a ATI Mobility Radeon X1450 (and a 17" screen) and runs ARMA .... to an extent. It's playable but not pretty, haven't tried the new 1.08 patch on it yet though. *EDIT* I forgot to mention - AVOID VISTA LIKE THE PLAGUE. There is NO reason to get it on a laptop. There are no directx 10 mobile graphics cards in any laptop currently being produced. All vista will do to a gaming laptop is slow it down.

I am really interested in RO but having to have steam puts me off. I haven't played anything on steam for maybe a year, so maybe it's better now- maybe someone could give the answers to these questions: 1) Can you stop steam from starting up every time you start your computer? 2) Does it still pop up all those annoying notifications when it's running but you aren't actually using it? 3) Does the friends list actually work for more than 30 seconds now? I've heard the infantry combat in RO is excellent but that the tank's aren't nearly as realistic- any truth in this or is it just the normal whining about sides? I'm coming from a long background of games like OFP (with WGL), Arma, Combat Mission and Day of Defeat (before it got arcadified) so I think RO would suit me.
