    GC 2008 Press Coverage

I hope that you are right. But even if we get an editor, there's still no reason to - again - have a 'less detailed one'. The editor of Arma2 seems perfect for being used with a controller, so wtf? The Xbox 1 was maybe not able to handle it in its full version, but the 360 certainly is... Grim

Ok, if that is true, then BI lost me and many folks I know because such a dumbed down version of the game won't be bought by us, that simply sucks. It worked on the Xbox 1 and there's NO reason that it isn't included in the 360 version. OFP2 does have it included and BI isn't able to do it once more? To have a full editor on the 360 is much more important to me than shiny graphics, but without it the whole game isn't of much interest to me anymore. Â BI, I'm over to CM. Grim

I hope you are not correct on this one. I don't see any reason for it either since OFP: Elite did have an editor. I do expect a full editor this time on the much more powerful console, or else the game won't be bought by me. This time a game by BI has a competitor on the 360 and OFP2 will allow us to use the editor. So it either is a full port from the PC or console owners will move on to other games, i.e. one game in this case: OFP2 Grim

I really would like to know whether the Xbox (360) version gets the full editor this time. From what one can see in the video the editor is easy to use and such point and click operations can be done as easily with the stick as with the mouse. So any official statement on this point? What about using the 1200 script commands? Grim

    ArmA 2 on 16.10.2008 available?

Oh, I do also play and I have played lots of games and not that many downloaded serious patches. Grim

Console Games are sometimes patched via Xbox Live, that's correct, but I doubt that this is as often the case as it is with PC games. It's a rare thing for Xbox 360 games indeed while it seems the usual way for many PC games to get it out asap and starting to work on fixing the bugs later on. Don't forget that not all Xbox gamers do have fast internet access, so patching i.e. a necessary download of huge files to make a game work properly isn't something that MS wants to see established as the way to go for console games. Not very encouraging news about ArmedA 2

Where did I say that? I said I didn't have much fun with OFP and the ArmA demo on the PC. I never said that I didn't like Elite. Better read what others say instead of ranting what you think they said. We have a wargame website (largest in German) and there we have a microsite dedicated to Elite, I made several missions you can download and play (read my signature, it's there since I joined this *friendly* forum), so no I didn't have much fun with the mouse/keyboard combo but I LOVE Elite. OFP, yes, long time ago but wasn't fun for me so I quit. ArmA only the demo which wasn't fun either, since I lose interest very fast if forced to play with mouse/keyboard. I only play strategy games on the PC. Grim

Three points: 1. How fast and how good the controls are with a controller doesn't depend that much on the controller but on the programmer. OFP Elite was a good example since it is very easy to control your character as well as your squad. I hope that ArmA2 for the 360 will be as good or even better. 2. Even if we assume that the mouse/keyboard combo is faster than the controller, then this is only theory since not everyone can use them to their full potential. Even if the mouse/keyboard combination is actually faster that doesn't help someone used to the controller settings of a certain console. Eventually this person will be better/faster with the controller. 3. Even if it is possible to turn around/aim with the mouse/keyboard combo with 'incredible speed' this has one mega flaw: it isn't realistic. A soldier with lots of stuff on his back, with a heavy rifle, MG or sitting in a tank etc. isn't that fast as you PC players want to have your games... So the controller movement may be the better sim here... Grim

So 'Placebo' better make sure that ArmA2 on the 360 is NOT a dumbed down version of the game. All flamewars will stop if we have the same game (incl. the editor please) on our console and can play it the way we want. Because then we don't have time to respond to these 'pc' folks anymore  Grim

You know what? One of the reasons - at least for me - that I like to use the 360 controller for shooters and especially mil sim shooters is that this controller feels much more like having a gun in your hand. Pulling the trigger to shoot is a different feeling than hitting a key... Â Grim

No, not everyone was happy, because the Xbox Far Cry just used the name of the PC game, but was different in many ways. The island was smaller, we had barriers you couldn't cross where the PC had none and the praised good AI was changed to the most dumb ass AI I have ever seen in any game. Grim

Well, that's not how gamepads work at least not after you get really used to them. I don't have to remember button combos, not consciously I mean. That becomes second nature really fast and I can play many games on the 360 without ever getting confused about the controls. As I said, not necessary. And as Ubisoft shows with their voice command (the one in End War seems to work without any problems) consoles are open to new control systems as well. I could imagine an OFP game with such a voice command... May I repeat what Placebo said? Grim

I actually started to think about giving you a serious answer until I came to this sentence which made it pretty obvious that your post simply doesn't deserve it. It's kinda funny to see you PC fanboys trying to ignore the dying process of your tool as the leading game platform. Whistling in the dark... Grim

    ArmA II on Xbox 360

To repeat this nonsense over and over like many PC gamers do doesn't make it any truer. We had Quake battles on the Dreamcast and I usually could give experienced PC gamers (who told me the same thing as you did above) a run for their money with my pad -and the DC pad was no match for the 360 pad!. First of all a pad is not necessarily slower in the end than a keyboard/mouse control, if you do it right. A pad allows for more natural moves (real diagonal moves are not possible with just wsad) and allows these moves to be made with the analoge sticks that are easier to control than two different systems (board/mouse) at the same time. I know that PC gamers can be _very_ fast with their keyboard/mouse control, but that usually comes only after long game sessions, i.e. experience. It's much easier to teach someone with no gaming experience at all to become a good pad player than to teach him a good keyboard/mouse control. And the last - and most important - point: if all players use the pad than there's no problem at all and since we don't use keyboard/mouse with the 360 no pad gamer will have to fight against a keyboard/mouse user. ArmA 2 on PlayStation 3

That the PS3 does support user mods is great, but to say the truth if Arma2 on the 360 comes with the full editor then I can not see this game losing its thrill even without mods. As long as there's the full editor you have unlimited possibilities to create scenarios - good enough for me Grim

Good to know, but will this also bring us a non-watered down version of the built in mission editor on the console(s)? I really hope so, because that was actually the only flaw of Elite... Grim

Don't feel bad dude, just realize that you PC folks are living in the dying age of your gaming platform. The consoles are getting more powerful with each new generation and simply give you more bang for your bucks with less trouble - more game less guff so to say. It's now HDTV time, which means everybody will have a super-size monitor in the living room connected to a really powerful engine solely dedicated to gaming, so the days of you 'office-gamers' are over. Just accept it  Grim
