[SUGGESTION] - Toggle 'Lock View Forward' as an option for TrackIR users.
Ghoulees posted a topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I just tried the Helicopter showcase and had a blast, with one exception. The 'weapons reticule' for the fixed forward weapons on the Ka 60 are not fixed to the HUD. If you have a TrackIR, the reticule wanders with wherever you look. Which means, as soon as they view slips out of the centre deadzone of the TrackIR program ( which is VERY easy to do ), then your aim point and weapons are no longer aligned. While its possible to 'centre view' again with the TrackIR, it becomes a constant press every few seconds as the devise is quite sensitive. My suggestion therefore is to have an option in the game controls whereby you can temporarily toggle you view locked 'centre forward'. In boats, vehicles and infantry, the free wandering view of the TrackIR is perfect. The above instance is the only weakness I have found so far in the TrackIR implementation. Keep up the great work. PS Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere. Its a pretty obvious flaw which I doubt hasn't been commented on already. -
Helicopter physics impressions - simplified

The Helicopters in ARMA have always been 'arcadey'. To be honest, the Take on Helicopter controls do fit spomewhere between arcadey and sim ( as Take On Helicopters is not very well regarded in the simulator community or by actual helicopter pilots either ). Either way, there should be a way to balance between both extremes, otherwise helos do have the chance to be overpowered from an armaments point of view. And as for the folks who are happy to trundle around in helicopters and move troops about in order to 'help the team', they are usually the folks interested in rotary wing flight to begin with, and do want a degree of realism for the challenge it presents. If only ARMA and DCS Blackshark & Huey could combine and have a bastard child, I'd be in heaven. :) -
We've mostly heard of the 'grounded' mission bug in the Red Hammer Campaign. For those not in the know..... When you fly to the RV to repair your chopper, the computer and cut scene take over control. The computer lands the Chopper, then kindly updates the 'retry' position for you. only trouble is, in versions 1.45/.46 it seems, the chopper imediately inverts and crashes upsidedown, killing you with it. When you hit retry, of course, you are inverted. Many have suggested holding down the altitude key and quickly hitting 'auto hover' to recover. I found another way. When you play this mission, have your Medic pilot the chopper to the repair truck. Yes, even he crashes it, but I find, after one or two 'retries' he usually keeps it upright. At that point, tell him to mount the repair truck. He will immediately land. When he does, get out, take over control of the Hind, tell him to get back in as gunner, and hey presto, you're on your way again. Hope this helps the frustrated masses. Happy gaming, Ghoul!

Hi All, I find the crosshair/cursor really inaccurate in my version. on a stationary target I need to aim low and right in order to score a head shot. When I try to target clearly visible enemies, the cursor does not change to red, and thus I can't order squad members to targer certain things. Also, in gunships, the cannon always fires high or off to the side. I have expended all my ammo on a UAZ once, without even damaging it! This is my only problem with the game really, but I have to say, a really, bloody annoying one! If anyone knows why this might be (as I don't see any other comments along this line), please let me know. I have P4, 1.6Gz, WinME, GeForce3. Hope you're havin fun, Ghoul.

As I read this thread my hopes soar! This is very well written, and its great to see all the positive, and constructive, input. Hoorah! Now I hope you can help me. I've been trying to connect to a multiplayer game and....no joy. I've tried both Gamespay and The ASE, but nada. The games plays and launches in single no worries, never crashes. When connecting to multiplayer I briefly see 'The Countdown Begins' and then 'Waiting for Server' and *Kazaaam*, I'm back at the server que. Can anyone help. And before you mention firewall, I do not have any extra programs like 'Zonealarm' etc running. Just plain old WinME, a DSL connection, and my phoneline. Anyone, pleeeeaasssse. I'm dying for a multiplayer scrap! Hope to see you in my sights real soon, Ghoul!

Just so you know, I do not have any extra firewall software installed, like Zonealarm. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Ruskie, have you figured this one out yet? If you do, be sure to post it here because I have exactly the same problem as you. I've posted a similar question, if I find out, I'll be sure to pass it onto you. I'd appreciate it if you could do the same! Good luck! Ghoul.

Anyone, please help. I have been searching high and low through FAQ's, but none really answer my question, or provide some steps I can take. I cannot connect to multiplay through either Gamespy or through ASE. The logo flashes, the screen briefly states 'The COuntdown begins' and then 'Waiting for Server' shows for a nanosecond and *poof*, I'm back to the server list of Gamespy or ASE. I'm running WinME, and ADSL connection (does that mean I have a firewall, and if so, how the hell do I start fooling around with ports?). Anyone with a little patience out there? I can play AVP2 no worries, so I can connect. There must be a 'operation flashpoint' friendly setup somewhere! Cheers, Ghoul
