Sure, I would say they 'lose' money in a way, since they have to pay salaries to the people working on the tools, but they'll get a return on the investment in the long run if the community is kept alive. Right now they probably need people to work on things that'll give a more immediate return to make things go around. It's about allocation of resources really. -
There's nothing wrong with being honest but giving vague statements like 'that's ugly' really doesn't help anyone. Being constructive means saying why and what you think looks ugly. You know so people who actually make things can improve and make better things, for YOU.

I am slowly but surely getting there; it's a learning process. Dirt is great for realism but it's also easy to get carried away with. I think the trick is to get a subtle contrast going that doesn't show up until you look at it closely. It really needs blend in and be less distinct to work.

If the game just had the mission editor I still would have bought it. That's always been the biggest draw for me, just making little missions that play out differently every time.

Yeah, I hope so too; although I don't it will happen over night. OFP went through some big changes during it's lifetime. The only disappointing things to me are that some of the old limitations are still there. Stuff that's most likely incredibly time consuming and problematic to change.

Ok, some questions: How exactly do you steal a feature and since when is VBS developed by one studio alone? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a company need an income to, you know, survive? I guess you could pay the staff with hugs but somehow I think that's not an optimal business strategy in the long run.

Great models! One small crit on the soldier, the crotch seem a tad bit too low. Generally it should be at the same level as the end of the wrists(measured with the arms down).

Try removing any third party addons you have installed; it worked for me.

It's the law of game forums. There has to be poorly written posts filled with lies, retarded speculation and conspiracy theories that would make even the most schizophrenic tinfoil-hatted wacko doubtful. Also, being a dick is actually considered 'constructive critcism' and construtive criticism is actually being a 'fanboy'. On game forums the word fanboy is used unironically and is a legitimate accusation of just about anything. Basically when people can't agree, they're fanboys. Both of them. That's the law. -

No, I think most people want an exporter. I just want a good workflow and tools that do the job. Right now it's a pain if you work in max or other apps. -

So true. There's a lot of 'high horsing' going on this forum(profe's post is a good example of that). I think we'll see a lot of quality stuff when the tools gradually gets released. -
It's amusing that no matter what BIS does, someone always has to bitch about it. They release a beta patch that has lots of cool features, and inevitably you have someone make snide comments about it. Wonderful. The lamest thing about comments like that is that they think it's incredibly clever and hilarious when in reality it's just pointless, semi literate bashing that's not impressing anyone. Basically you could just replace posts like that with random keyboard mashing and it would be just as insightful.

That's because the patch is only for the executable and not any objects like the choppers. I'm guessing we'll see the animations in the next patch.

I've got markings for czech and hungarian versions. And I have made a 39D dualseater version. I also have modeled some accessories like the Litening III pod, RBS 15 antiship missile and bk39 dispenser. I'm going to make IRIS-T and Meteor missiles also.

I want proper texture converters for a start. A Max exporter wouldn't hurt either. Losing smoothing groups every time you import to O2 is such a pain.

I have a Gripen model fully finished, with cockpit, decals/skins for all nations that have them. I'm just waiting on the tools so I can port it to Arma properly. Pic from a quick and ugly import:

I thought I'd make a WIP thread for my OFP/ArmA project. Currently I'm working on the textures as the model itself is pretty much done. Here's some renders for starters. I have the detailed cockpit and weapons left to model and later on I've planned to make a high detailed model for normal maps. I also plan to make Czech, Hungarian and SA versions. And maybe a D dualseat version. I'll post some ingame shots later.

I'm getting dark spots on with the 'fake' smdi map no matter what. Anyone got regular specular maps working? I guess we'll have to wait for the tools to get quality specular maps.

Great tip, thanks! I made a quick and crude spec map with that pinkish background and it worked. The flickering stopped and everything. The shader values needs tweaking and the maps are just quick ugly ones for testing. But it works! Now I just need to generate a proper normalmap from my highpoly mesh and sort out some smoothing.
