Half an year ago I read an article about the same matter. At that time US Army didn't have any kind of dedicated anti-personnel round for the M256 main gun of Abrams. And there were no mention about introduction of such round, no canister rounds or HE rounds being developed. That is some serious flaw in a MBT that is otherwise a very good one.
-
The info about invulnerability of Western MBT's is 10 years old, and therefore history. There are more capable AT-missile systems developed after Gulf War 1, for example AT-14 "Kornet", penetration ~1100-1200mm Rolled Homogenous Armor. Enough for every existing MBT.

The 100 mm main gun shooting HE-Frag, ammo velocity ~250 meters per second. Really slow...

Are any of the mods planning on adding the sound fx from the WWII team's U.S and German units that they had released?  That was one of the things I loved most about them.  For example when the soldiers run you can hear their gear shaking around and when the bullets hit near you, sometimes you can hear them make ricochet sounds.  Their hand grenades also had a lovely deep explosion sound and when they got hit they cry out stuff in German or yell "medic!"  That stuff has all been missing from the latest generation of WWII infantry units that have been released.  Those sounds I think add SOOOOO much more atmosphere!!!  Also please don't tell me to just go get a soundmod, because some of those sounds (like the stuff they say when they get hit) aren't possible with sound mods as far as I know.  One of you should ask Lawrie or Lobster about whether you can use the sounds and sound related .cpp code from those old WWII infantry units.   I hope the SEB team does something similar for their NAM2 pack at least when they release the NAM3 pack with updates and bug fixes.  While I love their models, it kinda sucked that with all that work they invested in it, that they didn't add custom sounds to the soldiers themselves.  I've noticed that the Operation Code Blue team have done this with their beta desert soldier units so that's encouraging at least.   I hope the WWII mod teams follow their example set originally by the WWII Team.  Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD><span id='postcolor'> I suppose most of those sounds were stolen from various games and movies so it is a bad idea to use them. Copyright problems instantly.

Sorry about the stolen sounds, from weapons part it was a misunderstanding, it will be changed, and the voices from DoD too will be removed. Apologies everyone that have been insulted with this... We are truly sorry about it, will not happen again.

Just so you know, there have been over 20 000 T-62's made and it was widely used in Afghanistan and there are loads of them in stocks even today in Russia. As for the T-64 it was even more capable than T-72 at the beginning and it has been never exported outside USSR/Russia. I don't know if the russians have modernized the T-64 like they have done with T-72 or T-80, but I assume they have at least added Kontakt-5 Era to active service tanks. In a conflict like Chechnya it is more than capable tank. And, over 8 000 has been made during the USSR time. So they both are certainly no marginal tanks. Oh, yeah, I believe Iraq has/had T-62's, at least during the Gulf War.

It's KPV 14,5 mm HMG and coaxial mg PK(T) 7.62 mm. The KPV is the heaviest machinegun in use, it's bullets have over twice the impact energy than the NATO counterpart M2HB has. That gun really rips M113's for lunch.

Couldn't find anywhere, would anyone be so nice and post a link?

These guys are truely awesome! This demo was cool, although the 105 rifled gun on a Leo 1 cannot penetrate the frontal armor of T-72. It has been proved by the Israel army, (this may be bullsh*t what I say, can't remember correctly) during Lebanon War 1982 they attacked T-72's with Merkava 1's and were not able to get a penetrating shot through the frontal hull or turret of these T-72's. Otherwise Merkava's proved superior. Although the T-72's were export variants with lower capabilities than soviet ones. I believe these guys will balance things when the complete mod comes out. But the power of the main gun is too high as well as the armor of that thingie.

I bet a lot of people have noticed the growing tensions between US and the Rest-Of-The-Worldâ„¢. (Heck, idiotic, I bet you have to live in a cave NOT to notice) What do you believe this will lead to? Could this be a start for a new cold war? Or even worse, a beginning steps into a large-scale all-out war, starting duration~10 years? Now now, don't laugh, I am dead serious. A lot of people around the world seem to be disgusted by the absolute superpower status of the United States at the moment. Many people knew from the growing tensions before WW2 that some kind of war was going to develop, so are the signs here again? How could we evade the risk of war? Even inside EU there are people that talk about reinforcing the european armies so US would not get a giant leap ahead in weapons technology. Inside arabic nations people are talking against US. There are a lot of russian population that feel the same way, kind of an legacy from the cold war, I have spoken with a few russian reporters and they told their objective view about this matter. US has had minor clashes with China during past years, and can the US handle the fact that China is a fast growing nation, eventually becoming a superpower. What do you think? No flaming please, we all know that just YOUR country's army could kick some serious arse, but I would prefer not to see it in reality. BTW I am from Finland, please provide your nation with your opinion. PS. Tell your opinions about how all this could be avoided... How to stop the growing tensions to turn out into all-out-war.

At least I don't have to replace them with American or European peoples to be sorry. But there are lots of ignorant people who may have to replace them in their minds to understand, and they may not even then get the point. It is a terrible fact that a lot of us human beings find it so hard to admit that we have made mistakes, be it in our everyday lifes or looking back at history. Some Japanese still won't admit that they have lost in WW2 and won't admit their committed atrocities. Same goes for alot of US people. I don't exactly know where it comes from, but I would believe that it comes from the "propaganda" which we all get during history lessons... I remember when I was at high school, all stories told about WW2 was something like: Nazi-Germany stepped on everybody's toes and killed 6 million jews. Then came the great allies, US, Great britain and Canada (very minor notification about Canada ) and brought freedom to Europe. Hurrah. Now that I have become older, by studying myself I have found much info about WW2 and interesting political information about it. It's funny that during high school, our teachers barely mentioned Stalins Soviet Union that was without doubt the biggest power to put Germany's expansion to a halt, and eventually crush the power of the NSDAP in Germany. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a terrible tragedy, because it was in fact unnecessary. Come on you people, just right after the war a majority of your own generals, scientists (that developed the bomb) and political leaders admitted it, so why can't you. The world condemns your use of atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki so why can't you just admit it was wrong, unnecessary, and murderous. By admitting the fact it was wrong you could earn the respect of many people outside of your country. Your choice, be wise.

Yeah. The real life ADATS would get penetrative shots from hitting heavy machine gun bullets, so I am wondering why it's armor is so durable in-game. IRL an ADATS would NOT stand a direct hit from any main gun of modern tank. Because it's armor is ~30 millimeters RHA. Now it sometimes seems as it is better than most MBT's....
-
The ADATS has too powerful armor. I dont believe that irl it can take a direct hit from a 125mm APFSDS and be still kicking.

Out island "555" wip screens in resitance.

Shopping centre. Buildings with cafe's and shops at the street level. Destroyed buildings. Power lines. Train lines. Football fields?!? That's a good start Do those and i'll buy you guys a pint of beer. -
Why don't you do them both. But preferably the PPSh-41 first, yes, because there were over 4 million made during WW2 and most certainly it exists still today in large numbers. Simonov SKS would be great too as well as Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifle. They are perfect resistance weapons

These guys have an IDEA! Instead of a 700th "Hey let's do a BlackHawkDown Mod, that would be cool 'cos I just saw the movie" or "I wanna make a SPR and BOB mod 'cos that would kick ass and I wanna kill some nazi scum." I personally don't like Fantasy RPG's but even if you get a chance to work out missions in a few differend ways, it's gonna be something completely new. Even having two differend options about talking is completely new. Great ideas you guys and good luck with the work ahead of you

Is anyone making t-62 and t-64 russian armor?
Genesis replied to dsawan's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Because there are plenty of T-62:s and T-64:s in this world still in use, and more were used during 80's. As a matter of fact, I would like to see also BMD's, BTR's, Leo-1:s and Leo-2:s, heck, even T-34/85's were (and are) still in use in Romania if I remember correctly. -
GFX good work. I'm hoping you would make a NSV and DShK for the soviets also... And some old AT cannons for the resistance force would be kewl... EDIT: Great idea! Now that WRPedit is out, how about some tall blockhouses for cities? I mean houses that have for instance, 6-8 floors. They don't have to be enterable, well, at least the whole building. Just make a cube and texture it so it looks like a blockhouse =) PLEEZ =(?

In 1939-1940 Finland in no way was co-operating with Germany or any other Axis power. Finland was fighting pretty much alone, although some volunteers from ex-Estonia, Sweden, Great Britain and Spain and a bunch of other countries joined the Finns in their desperate fighting against hopeless odds. Still, they managed to keep their independence. And, Finns indeed did receive material supply from Germany plus had a minor-sized German armed forces in their country fighting the Soviet Union forces during CONTINUATION WAR 1941-1944. But Finland leaders many times stated, that they are fighting their own war, as a individual army, not joining the NSDAP cause. BTW did you know that Christopher Lee, the actor of Saruman from LOTR was fighting in Winter War with Finns.

Ok, everyone post good sniper stories here. Who is the best sniper of all times? Do you know the answer? I surely do, but I want to see if people in the world know about him C'mon, let the stories flow into the topic
-
542 kills on 542 bullets is also "better" than 93 kills on 93 bullets. If you can call some killing better than other, that is. And Simo took all these in 100 days period. End of story. If we go with this logic, the best sniper is the maggot that blasted with a one 12.7 mm DShK bullet through multiple enemies. Bullets dont cost that much.
-
Yeah, Scooby that story is from Kollaa, Finland. Did you know that Kollaa was the place Simo Häyhä was sniping? It's amazing that even under enormous pressure, the Kollaa was still occupied by finnish troops when the peace was signed. I'm not sure, but the soviets attacked with some 120000 soldiers towards Kollaa. Finland had much less men there, can't remember the count, could someone tell the exact numbers?
-
It was interesting to read about William Sing. I have read about Gallipolli, but rarely seen any stories about WW1 snipers. It's been a nice working day reading these stories. OK, tomorrow it's going to be about tank aces of all time
-
No, I believe Simo's total confirmed kills are those 542. Surely, he too has some unconfirmed kills. Don't know the count though. Häyhä, Hatchcock and all the others, they must be mentally truly amazing guys... Again about Simo Häyhä, during the Winter War, Simo was assigned to take care of enemy sniper that had been killing squad leaders. The soviet sniper had already taken down 4. So, Simo took his Mosin Nagant (without scope, although there were many good soviet sniper rifles available) and carefully moved into good position where he could back away fast when the enemy cannons and mg's should begin to fire. He stood still for 14 hours, waiting for the enemy sniper to do a critical mistake. Suddenly, a sunburst hit the scope of the soviet sniper. Simo carefully aimed and took a shot from 450 metres, and hit. Then, he started to back away from the position, and soon shells from the enemy cannon started to hit the spot he had been. The soviets used to call him "the white death".
-
Yeah, Simo killed 200+ soviets with suomi SMG. That was a good point. Still, it's one helluva bodycount. I'm interested to know more about the vietnam era snipers. Does anyone know good links?
