my reason for not playing this game anymore is that I am disappointed in the quality/fun of the matches/missions played online. In my opinion there is not much diversity, at least, not compared to OFP.

call bis_fnc_help from editor crashes ArmA2 1.04
FRidh posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
When I try to call the function bis_fnc_help from the editor it crashes Arma 2, version 1.04. I called the function as described in the note at http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/BIS_fnc_help I also called it using Radio Alpha, but both methods game crashed. ---- Nevermind....I forgot to place the module itself on the map... -
I'm really baffled by the way people are playing the online multiplayer game.

I also thought of spawning in waves of men. It is a lot more realistic to come in as a group than by yourself. Also for the opposite site. Actually, I once made a mission in OFP where the enemies spawned in groups. It was a coop where the players had to defend a base, and the enemies counterattacked in waves, a bit like Invasion gamemode in Unreal Tournament. Hmmm, now this makes me think. You could even make this a lot bigger, with like 32 players as defenders, and entire AI platoons attacking in waves. As soon as 8 players die they parachute in the base, to help defend again. For every defended wave your side gets points, so the challenge is to finish highest as a team. And this wave of 8 persons perhaps than as a dynamically created squad as suggested. although it will be difficult assigning objectives than (which team defends which side). -

well, there are always some people who work together but almost never an entire team. Problem with Warfare and CTI at Arma2 / Chernarus is there are no real choke points, which ArmA1 and OFP definitely had. There is an entire line from north to south or west to east, or whatever diagonal you like you defend. Also because of lack of main roads you can't move to certain points quickly. But I guess I am getting off topic -
Not sure whether it is part of the mission, or a bug, but when I am at Chernagorsk I am relieved from command and I get shot by my 3 team members. They do not kill me, but I get incapacitated. After that they heal me, and as soon as I get up on my feet I get shot again. And it goes over and over...... I am also being ordered to mount one of my BMP's, but that is just normal AI I presume.

if you finished every objective, I would say just end the mission like this: Press [shift] + numlock [ - ] and than type endmission Manhattan I played all over, but the mission after Manhattan I had same kind of bug....

it should depend on mission size. In small DM or CTF maps, in my opinion you should play with grass, as it offers more realism. But with larger missions, like CTI, I would say turn it off for the already mentioned reason.

and they might have got an even bigger score if they worked together :-) Best thing there is in CTI, as soon as you discovered enemy base, position your units nearby, someone's goes closer and laser designates targets, a few others bomb the base with A10 and after that a nice tank rush to finish 'em of Unfortunately you hardly see people working with the laser designator -
Which do you play more? Huge PVP MP battles or small coop missions?
FRidh replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I play large PvP battles more often however I prefer Coop. Same as above, I actually lost interest in PvP since ArmA, partly because of grass at long distance, and also since the type of players has changed -
Yeah, it's getting dangerous with such a smart AI. I bet Operation Arrowhead has Skynet in it with some bad Schwarzenegger voices like 'I'll be back' when you kill one of 'em.

during the days of OFP there were also a lot more servers with coop or DM or things like that.....now it's only CTI, Evo and such. Still remember the fun of 'Find The Serial Killer' in OFP and also with ArmA :-) And ofcourse the COOP missions on Kolgujev where you had to clear out 3 or 4 bases. Or defending from large counterattacks. You worked in teams of about 12 people and you really had to work together, or you got KIA and had to wait till the mission finished.... -
haha, obvious answer But no, me or my team members have not hit any friendlies.

Is it possible to disable Quick Command? I know you can still use the old method for commanding, but you need to press backspace first now. It also happens a lot that when I want to use the old method it activates something in the Quick Command menu, which really pisses me off.

somehow I also don't understand why in the campaign you almost always get the M4 aimpoint instead of the M16A2. I thought the M16 is still the Army's standard rifle?

I had the same problem as jack. screwed up everything on my X1300. i also had this on my X1950GT AGP, and a reboot fixed the problem. I even got a BSOD, so I had to reboot anyway. Performance is much better with 7.8 on Windows XP. I can turn the graphics much higher without getting artifacts. Only when I turn on anti-aliasing I get artifacts. Also turning on shadows can crash the game, or at least hang it for a few seconds.

Problems with ATI Radeon X800 XT Video card
FRidh replied to Tankriders's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
i too can only play the game without artifacts when all settings are on 'low' and shadows, AA and AF are turned off. This is with a X1950 GT -
well, I did not notice any difference either with my X1950 GT AGP. I still can't put the graphics any higher than 'low', and I still can't turn on the shadows, AA or AF, because then I get huge artifacts.

A native version for linux would be very unlikely as ArmA is using DirectX. It would however be very nice if the developers would help with making ArmA working under Linux using Wine or Cedega. Some games running under Cedega work great. Sometimes, as someone mentioned before, even better than running the game with Windows. I've tried to play OFP like many others under Linux with Wine and Cedega. Install works just fine, however when I try to play it with Cedega, there aren't any textures and so it's all black. I think this wouldn't be so hard to fix as I've read before that with an older version of Cedega, I thought WineX3.1, it worked well. So if the developers would help the people over at Wine or Cedega, I'm sure many Linux gamers would really appreciate it. Otherwise I am afraid I need to use Windows again, just for ArmA.

It would be awesome to have a central server with all the addons. Maybe we could have that central server and make the same addons available on other computers around the world using something like bittorrent. However, you also need to include dependancies in the database for each addon, so if you would want to download a mission, you get to see what addons are required. Maybe something like APT that Debian Linux is using. It would be great to have something like that for OFP. Every addon would have a unique ID and its version. When using dependancies you could also have different versions in the same database. If you have 2 different addons and they each need a different version of another addon, you would be able to download them both. Also, better backwards compatibility could be added that way. What should be added, what was already mentioned, is the possibility to search the database for certain things, like the period and country. When you start OFP it could search the database for newer versions of each official file and addon. But it should also be possible to turn it off. <span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>Edit: wow, I've been reading these forums for years, but never posted before :-|</span>
