    Announcement, coming soon

That's not to say that a Delta Trooper wouldn't pick up an M240G, HK-21E, G8, M-60E4, slingshot, ballpoint pen, or uncooked hotdog, and use it to kill a hostile...

Sorry Rattler, I was a nuclear machinist mate 3rd class, aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, and was a plankowner... The Nimitz class carriers are still the ultimate naval warships in history... The Big E is a big beautiful mutha, but theres nothing like these: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/cvn-68-pics.htm This one's great! The world's biggest warship, doing a kick turn. You could water ski behind one at top speed. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/images/cvn_xx.jpg

Sure, if you want to call the Charles De Gaulle an aircraft carrier. I'll warrant the world hasn't seen such a nuclear-powered pile o' shite! I'll not embarass any poor French fellows, by telling what all is wrong with it, but lets just say it's been towed, ( yes, TOWED... ) back to port, unable to move under it's own power, dozens of times. Infact, it actually lost one of it's screws, ( Giant bronze propeller ) deep in the Med. Just fell right off the shaft... They actually went broke, trying to get this one ship in service, and it's still not finished! Infact, it'll never be completed, and combat ready, and they'll still be throwing money at it- tied up to the pier! Now thats funny!

My obsevations of DKM's XM301 and Hellfires goes like this... The gun is somewhat overpowered, but not by much. It's not unreasonable to assume that if a medium, or even main battle tank was accurately engaged with several dozen M53 API-T shells, fired IGE, under fairly nominal battlefield conditions would at the very least possibly cause a mission kill of the vehicle. This is accomplished by destroying a vital component, such as weapon sights, antenna and sensors, the exposed weapons themselves, or even exposed crewmembers. Those gigantic cylindrical fuel tanks carried on the rear of an MBT would definately explode, killing any nearby troops. I'm sure that tank treads are extremely sturdy, but a dozen or so API hits, in the same area could possibly weaken, or even severely damage a tread enough to warrant replacemet. Raking an MBT's top-side with a hundred or so shells could possibly destroy a significant portion of the reactive armor pannels, rendering them useless, and expose the tank to HEAT-type anti-armour weapons. The gun should also be a little more accurate, with a slightly reduced dispersion. A specific part of the MBT, such as the turret, left or right sides, front or rear quadrants, could be targeted at 2000 meters or less. Right now, a hovering DKM Commanche AI gunner hits an MBT-sized target at 2000 meters with about 15 to 20 percent of total rounds fired. I could understand this if the Commanche is moving at a high rate of speed, but at a hover it should should be able to hit at least 80 percent, to a smaller section of the tank. Now, about the Hellfires... I don't know why Gen. Carnage said they were so under-powered. As far as I could tell, when they hit, which was much more often than not ( I killed T-90s at rediculous off-boresight angles, and AOA, sometimes as much as 50 degrees, and greater! ) they blew the snot out of the targeted MBT, and sometimes even killed nearby vehicles with splash-damage. Granted, the AGM-114C-K is a hellacious ass-kicker on the battlefield, but isn't really capable of the amazing manueverablity seen here. It definately increases the fun factor though, by keeping the player alive long enough to kill any Shilka's or Tunguska's that would otherwise shred a helo. In conclusion, I'd say that what DKM has done with their Commanche is make it more fun, than truley accurate. This isn't a bad thing per se, it's just their style of mod-making. Not every player want's the level of detail, and realism that I do... Sometimes its more fun to just let rip, and blow the shit out the badguys. I totally appreciate this point of view, take part in it myself from time to time, and am thankful for all the effort from the team. OFP is a better game for it.

Whoa. Hold up, full stop. I was responding to someone elses question regarding the capabilities of the ( DKM ) Commanche gun system. End of discussion? What??? Look mate, if I need any help figuring out what not, and when not, to write, I'll ask for input, m'kay? But don't hold your breath... This is called fan input, and I AM a fan, and I believe that some changes could be made to make your addon more realistic. Now, whether or not you use that input is, of course, up to you. You can only help the willing, after all. I'm not going to be baited into some argument, where I can be labled as anything other than a supporter of ALL mods and teams. And before you say, that if I don't like something, I can do it better myself... I already have. I've de-BIN'ed your addons already, and made the necessary changes to suit ME. I'm trying to encourage you as a mod maker to produce a top quality addon, which is good for us all. Keep raising the bar, General Carnage... And I'll continue downloading your addons.

Cool, thanks Eviserator. And Too Tall, no offense mate, but I was asking someone who might actually know. A rough ETA is a fair question. NavyEEL, yeah, it was noticed, way back in the thread. I don't know if DKM will make changes to the update, as they haven't commented on several other "bugs". Gen. Carnage seems to be on top of the situation, though.

Hey Eviserator; While we're on the subject, do you have a *rough* eta as to when BAS' RAH-66 might be released? And you guys are doing one that's seperate from Brsseb's, right? Just trying to get a feel for what my favorite mod team has in store for us...

Ohhhhhhhh... I'm sorry. I guess I didn't understand you, Gollem1. Sometimes all the facts of real life makes me a bit obtuse, at times. And Eviserator, you got my meaning. The page does show that there is some effective penetration at lower angles of obliquity, but for the most part the M50 series of ammo and the XM301 isn't really as powerful as DKM has made it out to be in this mod. It is still quite effective against soft targets, including: APC's, trucks, other light vehicles, exposed eletronic equipment, munitions, launchers, artillery, and of course- men.

Production on the RAH-66 isn't slow... It hasn't even begun. The RAH-66 is still in research and development. It is, however doing extremely well in testing and will be ready for production soon. I think it will be one of the military projects that will be fully funded, and kept on schedual by the DOD.

Thanks for that clip. For the record I was wrong, the XM301 cannon only fires at a maximum rate of 1500SPM. It starts at 750SPM and rev's up to 1500SPM, in several seconds. This should sound more like a loud ripping sound, rather than a solid buzz, anyway. I have heard some fantastic sound effects for aircraft gun's like G8's Tornados, and just feel that DKM could have done slightly better in this regard. And for the record, I'm not being rude or harsh, here. Just offering some constructive criticism, for the benefit of all. And for those people that think the gun is too powerful, here's a site that should help: http://www.aircav.com/cobra/ammo20.html.

I figured I'd better put in a couple of my own Peso's, before all was said and done. This was posted by me on OFPEC: About the bird... It's ( At the moment... ) the best aircraft available for download. And that's saying something, as I have seen some fantastic aircraft for OFP lately. In short, my only ( perhaps undeserved ) gripes are the textures. Not so much the paint scheme, which is currently hypothetical in real life anyway. As far as I know, everything I've seen so far regading the Commanche's coloration shows the prototype(s) in typical Army OD. As this is a "stealth" aircraft, and would be considered to be a special mission/force multiplier aircraft, it may be given the carbon-based non-reflective black seen on USAF low-observable aircraft. Like I said before it's all hypothetical at the moment. One thing is for certain though, the Commanche will be expected to perform missions during daylight as well as night, so we may see something painted similar to DKM's chopper flying around the real battlefields. Back to the textures... theres definately something missing somehow. For instance there are very few or no: seams, vents, panels, scratches, weathering, serial numbers or anything else to make it look really... real. The only other thing I ever have a problem with DKM's mods, aside from the textures, are the sound effects. Come on now, surely other people noticed the gunfire sound effect? It sounds like some kind of MIDI-produced combination of a weed whacker on steroids and a giant bumble bee singing in D-minor! Now, I know that three-thousand rounds per minute of 20mm cannon fire should and does, BUZZ... but there are other sounds mixed with it. Like the whine of the electric motor, and the faint metallic clink of the brass moving in the system and being ejected. I suppose what I would have expected was at least a copied .WAV file of a minigun used instead, there are dozens of high definition .WAV's available online. The loadouts are also somewhat innaccurate, as well. The Commanche is only supposed to carry five hundred rounds. The Scout variant could be loaded with one AGM-114K, a two-tube Stinger launcher, and a four-tube rocket launcher, in each bay. Or, alternatively, any combination of these, as they each would take up one hardpoint in each bay. Finally, If I'm not mistaken, the gunner sits in the front of the helo, as they do in most other combat helocopters. One last issue, the gun on the scout Commanche can be slaved to a laser-designator, but how this is used in-game isn't really explained. BTW: I liked the USMC insignia... It was a nice and unexpected surprise. It IS supposed to be an Army chopper, at least at first. However, it's not completely unrealistic to think of the Commanche replacing the USMC Super Cobra, in some roles, sometime in near future. It would also enhance their capabilities by providing a reconnaisance/scout helo, as well as a manned stealthy striker in a kind of a two for one deal. I'd like to add FAS also has a pic of the Commanche in a hypothetical paint scheme of green with black stripes, launching a Hellfire. All of these GLARING ( not! ) errors aside, this is an absolutely fantastic mod and an absolute MUST HAVE addon!
